No, the team has not been announced yet, and being a Monday game, it doesn't have to be announced til Friday with an extended bench. A final team will be out on Sunday (Sat night to be precise).

Some people need to just take a deep breath.

Not listed in the team or on the extended bench last night.

Played on the wing in the final practice match against Melbourne.

The buzzards are circling.
What have I told you about believing everything you read, especially from unofficial sources? Watt will play.

What makes you think that?

Do you have a match up in mind?

He had a good preseason and apart from Monfries, can play on anyone from their side. Actually, he could even play on Monfries.

What makes you think that?

Guess.

Do you have a match up in mind?

Not really.

Spud/Gibson/Petire will take Lloyd/Lucas/resting Hille or Laycock. Welsh has been playing as a hit up CHF. Probably Thompson for him.

Watt will take McPhee, who is underdone, and push hard forward when we have to footy to grind him down.

I read in the paper today that Welsh will not be playing in round one.
But then again i saw Ross listed in the BP on the Footy Show.

Whilst I would like to see Drew go back, I have a strong gut feeling he won't.

This is how I believe Essendons forwards will line up, and I believe it is their best chance of getting a mismatch.

Monfries Pratt
Lucas Firrito
McPhee Thompson

Davey
Lloyd Gibson
Jetta

Which leaves Harding and Power as the only viable match ups for Davey and Jetta. Both Davey and Jetta on the ground at the same time could cause us real headaches considering the losses of Smith and Sinclair. Knights would be crazy not to take advantage of this.

As for Hille and Laycock going forward, we simply play our resting ruck on them when they both go on the ground. Hamish gets Hille and Hale gets Laycock.

Not sure what that means.

Yeah, he will.

Jetta is a kid and should realistically should be shut-out by whoever we choose to put on him. I reckon Rawlings will tag Davey, which says a bit about their midfield. It's rubbish.

But they have been rucking Laycock and dropping Hille forward and to good effect. He is a big bastard and he moves ok. Laycock can mark the footy, too. Has to be Drew.

I have Brady for Stanton, but aside from that, yeah, we should absolutely murder them at the clearances.

Fair enough, Drew going back works for me, unfortunately Dean doesn't always see it that way.

So that gives us Petrie, Firrito, Gibson, Thompson and Pratt. Even if Essendon play Monfries and Davey as the only smalls, I still can't see where Watt will fit in.

Watt will make us a little too top heavy.

Pratt will take one of Davey or Monfries, and is really better suited to Monfries, so I reckon that will leave Harding or Power for Davey.

Petrie to take whichever of Hille or Laycock go forward
Pratt to take Davey
Watt to take Lloyd
Firrito to take Lucas
Gibson to take McPhee

The rest can take care of itself.

They would be my starting defensive match up's.

No way should Watt take Lloyd while Gibson takes a time waster like McPhee IMO. Swap those I reckon.

IIRC Watt has taken Lloyd most times we have played them and beats him most of the time.

Lloyd didn't play last year. Before that I can't remember. Don't much care, either. Gibson is better at everything and much better equiped to handle a bloke who has kicked 8 million goals.
