Put aside for a moment our proud history, 16 premierships, the carlton arrogance and the 'strut' being back (clearly way to early for robert walls to have made that call).I am just starting to get the feeling that this club has developed a losing culture. Plain and simple when a club has won only 20-25% of its games over the last 5 or 6 years including wooden spoons it has seriously affect the mental state of our players
All this speculation of tanking does not help either...perhaps the players simply do not now how to win and cannot get rid of this attitude that close enough is good enough.
How many of our players have seriously experienced playing in a successful side with the blues? I exclude nick stevens career at port, juddy's at the eagles, and hadley's at the lions because this is success at another club and not their current one. The only player i can think of is Ryan Houlihan, and that would have been very early on in his career when playing for us around 2001. So the rest of our side genuinely do not know what it is like to play in a strong-performing carlton side and possibly even feel like it is a long long way off ever experiencing this.
We can have all the no. 1 draft picks in the world and trade for the best players in the comp however this doesnt change the constant and perhaps encouraged losing and again this close enough is good enough, 3 good quarters of footy (like yesterday) crap.
I believe that StKilda is proof in the pudding. For years they were getting smashed and picking up no. 1 draft picks left, right and centre. While they are a decent side they have certainly not fulfilled their potential which they should have by now with some even belieiving they had missed their premiership window of 2004-2006. This is probably put down to a losing culture that that has been cultivated at the club...I just hope the same isn't happenin with our beloved Blues and I can't wait to be proven wrong...
