Henry Playfair - Probably one of his best game ever

Im just looking at the statistics and the Essendon game was probably one Playfair's best game EVER.

Most of Playfair's statistics yesterday were almost as good as all his career high statistics. Obviously i havent been through all of Playfair's statistics over his career but i think you will have a hard time finding a better all round performance. It just shows that our coaching staff are better than Geelong's

His kicking style is kind of weird, but he was accurate yesterday, so let's hope it continues throughout the season!

Actually the whole team kicked well, in the 2nd half at least, Teddy's goal was fantastic!

Must be because we only beat you by 7 goals earlier in the year; seriously Hank was 4th in line to get a forward role at Geelong and showed 1 good season before he had bad shoulder injury. His kicking is still woeful but he can take a mark. Wait until the end of the season before you pass judgement.

Right now i would say that Henry Playfair is in better form than Cameron Mooney.

He might stay in the team when Hall comes back. I kind of like the idea of Hall, O'Loughlin and Playfair all in the forward line at the same time. Not many teams have 3 tall defenders so Playfair could do quite well.

If Playfair could improve his goal accuracy i think he will be a very handy player.

Naah, it was Gaz that ripped us apart, not the coaching per se.

Playfair .. show me something against a harder opposition. Until then I'll reserve judgement.

Henry did some good things besides kick goals yesterday.Our forwards gelled well together and were able to pass the ball to the player in the best position.I recall Henry making a couple of good passess to players closer to goal.While MickyO was the most outstanding there seemed to be plenty of open spaces.

As I said last week, he's not a worldbeater. But he led hard all day, can take a mark, and put a few through this week - pretty fair game. Delighted to see him contribute considering how poorly he seemed to be rated. Definately holding his spot atm.

Playfair's a good leading player and will be a good decoy for Bazza when he returns.. And looks to be an unselfish player too as he was always looking for a closer option nearer goals.. His kick to Jolly in the goals was a great example..

So he's got the no. Bloods rule working.. doing the team things..

What was encouraging about playfair yesterday was his work ethic. In the second term not everything was going our way and Henry was prepared to work to put himself in good positions for the team and those playing to him. It continued all match. I don't think he is going to dominate too many matches but if he presents himself as an alternative marking target up forward than he is filling the void we've not had since Hall's suspension. I like his effort and hope to see more of it in coming games.

Agreed,probably needs to get his confidence up a bit more.Was great to see
teamates giving him a pat on the back after his first goal. He can take a mark
and im sure his teamates will kick it to him more as a result of his effort against the Bombers. His kicking will improve along with his confidence, no doubt!

Playfair's form 'easing Hall's absence'

Sydney coach Paul Roos says the form of ex-Geelong recruit Henry Playfair is making the long absence of suspended star forward Barry Hall less of a burden.

Hall is out until at least the round 12 clash with St Kilda, after the seven-match ban for his infamous punch on West Coast's Brent Staker in round four.

Even then, he might not be able to return, as he continues to feel the effects of a wrist injury sustained in the same match, although Roos said his recovery was progressing well.

But the Swans coach said Playfair, who could only manage to squeeze into the Cats' line-up for one game last season, Geelong's only loss in their past 27 matches, was filling the gap nicely.

After making his Sydney debut in round seven against the Western Bulldogs, when he pulled in six marks and kicked a goal, Playfair impressed with nine marks and three goals in a big win over Essendon on Sunday.

"He makes our structure a lot better and that's why we got him," Roos said.

"We hope to see Hall back ... but at this stage (Playfair) is fitting in really well."

Running forward Ryan O'Keefe, who will play his 150th AFL match against Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium on Saturday, said Playfair's presence has been a real benefit for the team.

"Henry's been great, he's brought another big body, he competes well," O'Keefe said.

"Without having Barry here, it's really freed up the smaller guys, they can really be good at crumbing."

But Roos was hopeful Hall's return from suspension, in three weeks' time, would not be delayed by his injury.

"He's training hard, training really well," Roos said.

"We'll know a bit more next week. At this stage, his wrist seems to be doing really well."

Meanwhile, the Swans rated play-making defender Tadhg Kennelly, set to miss Sunday's game with a knee injury, as some chance to return against Richmond the following weekend.

He created a contest every time the ball went near him (which wasn't often) and it's obvious to see that he's trying his guts out (more than we can say for Davis). He could probably work on presenting outside 50 a bit more often when we're struggling for targets but other than that I'm happy for him to be given a couple of months to really find some form.

We just didn't go inside 50 enough and when we did we looked for Mick most of the time.

Bring back Davis, even if he gets only 7 touches, chances are he will get a couple of shots on goal.

Thats generally true but unless you are actually at the game watching what the player is doing as the ball comes through the middle you just don't know. I don't know how you could label his game as hopeless?

The commentators seemed to believe he was having a ok game so im going to accept that they probably were seeing things on the field which i couldnt see as i was watching the game on tv.

I didn't say he had a good game. He was quiet but I couldn't say he was hopeless based on the contests I saw him in. At one stage he had 3 port players around him as the ball came into the forward 50 and he managed to contest and bring the ball to ground. Late in the last quater he was outside the 50 desperately throwing himself into the contest.

I wasn't trying to say it was a good game but more pointing out the fact that despite being quiet he didn't have what I would call a bad game. I honestly think we're better off with him than we are Davis atm. I'll take an average player that has a real dip over a matchwinner that thinks he can go at 90% any day.

BTW - I traded him into my DT this week so not happy with the 19

You, very obviously, weren't at the game.
The work he put in off the ball was a huge reason why we won that game and it was the sort of thing that would have put a huge smile on Roos' face but doesn't get the accolades it deserves because you just don't see it on television.
Davis (of which I am a huge fan) could learn an awful lot from his work ethic.
