This is gonna be sweet.

JT's tip for the weekend:

OEG by 35 points

Players to watch:

Not enough credit has been given this year to the man with the birthing hips, Trent 'Gumby' Skurrie. He has raced up the goal kicking chart this year (much like an award-winning N*Sync album up the Aria chart), thrives on finals football and for mine will bag 6 this weekend.

Chris Mitchell claimed earlier this year he was 'the most damaging small forward in the VAFA'. Small definitely, damaging questionable, but also has a propensity to produce undisciplined acts of football. The upper echelons of the St Bernard's hierachy have told me it is time for him to step up and contribute.

Mitchell is a good player how ever he must be very carefull how he tackles. Umpires are dynamite on illegal/crude tackles.

I love how people just make up the facts to suit their story. Last year was a choke without doubt. 2006 we finished 3rd, won the 1st final and were the 3rd best team in B grade that year. But keep it up if it keeps you warm at night.

C'mon TBP give us some confidence. You blokes are home and hosed and heading to A grade!!
Brad Teal was spotted yesterday in a Buckley St embroidery shop requesting 60 OEG Premiers 08 hats.
Biggsy has applied to Vicroads to update his number plate to Biggsy08.
Merton has put the umpires on notice about the snipers from St.Berns, nothing can go wrong this time.

Merts, with every post I can sense the knot in your tummy getting tighter and the knees starting to wobble - hope you're not around the players, relax, its only Thursday - the time to worry comes Sat!

One thing about the OEG blokes that post on here is that none of them actually are lining up on Saturday so they won't be feeling any added pressure from their comments....unlike a couple of Bernards players ie: Liberatore and Mitchell who have been talking shit all year and will certainly be singled out by the crowd on Saturday.

I hope they handle it well.

Think after 10 years Clanger is fairly accustomed to anything an ammos crowd can throw at him. Usually even gets a bit from his own crowd. Makes him play better. Bring it on. As for Libba the name suggests he's pretty thick skinned also, the biggest reaction you'll get from him is a chuckle if the crowd actually comes up with something good

Lucky for OEG they aren't lining up, otherwise the knee wobbles, wouldn't get them through the pre match - maybe you should stay away, your nerves could be catchy

As for Mitchell and Libba, they will handle it fine

Looking forward to watching OEG smash St Bernards on the weekend, I actually felt sorry for the lads when they lost that game to Blacks last year...
and Marcellin will follow them back to A Section.

Was just reading Horn's article on the ammo's website about Old Essendon, made for interesting reading...I didn't actually realise the extent of their choking! Reading the article it seems they have played in at least 11 finals games since '99' and lost all but a couple of those games:eek:. Could someone from OEG clarify the actual figures for me???

As good as they are this year (I personally think they are 6-8 goals better than St.bernards & Marcellin), these sort of numbers would definitely make me nervous if I was involved with OEG. Should be a cracking game tomorrow... OEG to end the hoodoo and win by 5 goals.

I liked the bit where he took a swipe at people posting on forums giving OEG crap about their past yet he brings it up by writing a page article about it on the VAFA web.

They will win by plenty lets say 49 pts.
Snowdogs will start the day well though with a 5 goal win in the Ressies.

In relation to Horns article in a publication of the vafa.To me it was a undermining article, singling out one side against others. The article clearly has an underlying tone of oeg being unable to cope with finals etc, i have no problems with this assertion. What i have got is serious problem with the unfairness of his timing.Did he do the same to scotch re xavs, of course not.I think mr horn should stick to what he does best that is talking about the game and not trying to be a one-sided clairvoyant. These sort of articles contained in official pulications do nothing for unity in the vafa.

G'day mate,

"Personally, I hope they get up and shake the curse (looking at some of the moronic abuse directed towards them on the internet, it’s easy to side with OEG). They look like they belong in A Section.".

I'm rooting for OEG! But the unique finals history was definitely a talking point and worth an article.

Starting to sound a little delirious now Mert?

Heard that there will be hundreds of copies floating around Elsternwick Park just in case anyone missed the article

Seriously, if oeg break the curse, good luck to them, but until they do the curse remains like a lead weight.

didn't read last weeks record? he mentioned the 49year hoodoo in the preview.. but that hoodoo doesn't seem as prominent as OEG's one in comparison

Have to agree with Merton on this one. The square off at the end doesn't undo the underlying theme( yes mostly factual) and timing.

AS he said, why didn't you write the same thing about Scotch the week before?

Because the Scotch curse is not as noteworthy as the Old Essendon one. And besides, I gave the Scotch curse a pretty good run in all the previews I did of the 1st semi.

I had little doubt the OEG finals record would get a run in the Horn's Wednesday dribble this week. It was a lay down misere. Scotch's curse isn't as notable because they've been in the top flight for so long (without winning a flag, and failing to beat Xavs in the process), but OEG are still trying to enter the top flight for the first time in their history.

I sincerely hope the OEG boys do it this time. If so, it would be a just result for a great year thus far.

I cant believe Jascave hasnt contributed to this discussion. OEG for mine by palenty, and if they dont, I dont think I would even bother to post on here anymore re them, it would be so boring.

Have to back up Horn on this one.....you OEG guys are kidding yourself...do you only read the articles that relate to yourselves. ....whole article on scotch not beating Xavs in the finals since moses was a boy. As for the timing...when else would you write it.

ps OEG to win in the senior by 5 goals and snow in the dew kickers.

The Old Essendon finals saga certainly bring back memories of Collingwood from the period 1958-90 when the Magpies failed to win finals after looking the goods earlier on. Never was this evidenced than in 1977 when Collingwood under coach Tom Hafey rose from wooden spooners in 1976 to finish minor premiers and then qualified for the grand final after beating Hawthorn in the 2nd semi. The Magpies led by 27 points at 3/4 time then withdrew into their shells to allow North Melbourne to regain the lead, only to see Ross 'Twiggy' Dunne level the scores. The general sense of opinion after that grand final, was that the Magpies had let a golden opportunity slip (and the suspension of Phil Carman didn't help the Magpies either)-and it showed, the following week, North won the replay by 27 points.
