At least this years captain is actually captain material.......

Strange they couldnt have squeezed in a few more tall forwards, geez, half back flank maybe?

Dunstall isn't stupid enough too raise an issue like that on an AA awards night it was obvious that he was referring to the fact Harvey was still playing and not retired. People that read it that way are the sort of people that are searching for a story, hoping that he had other intentions. Are you HUTCHY??? So yes it was idiotic!

well he did and clearly you didn't see it if you think that is what he meant. There was no doubt as to what he meant so who's the ****ing idiot now

You expect us to believe that out of the 3 mid fielders who played against harvey last week and were picked in the AA team, he just happened to ask the guy who had a run in with him 8 days ago if he thought it was ironic he presented him his award considering the events of 8 days ago, but he wasn't referring to that incident.:confused::eek:

Mitchell dudded yet again. Apparently leading clearances for the comp time and time again means nothing.

Motlop also very stiff, selectors got sucked in by Collingwood whinging.

Oh no, don't you see it's all about the hard-ball now.

Let's excuse the fact that superior readers of the play get, and dish off, the ball before it becomes contested. Hence the many games where Mitchell had more clearances than Hard-ball gets.

*disclaimer* I'm not taking anything away from Hard-ball gets, just pointing out that it doesn't always paint the whole picture. Same too can be said for clearances - there's a contest, the ball spills out to someone treading water, he snaps it away = clearance.

I agree that Chris Judd is definitely a worthy All Australian captain, BUT, you'd think the selectors would have supported the 'AFLPA Captain Of The Year Award', given to Tom Harley. I think its 'extremely' arrogant of the All Australian selection committee to disagree with the AFLPA Captain of the year award, because they're pretty much saying that 1: Tom Harley should not have been awarded the best captain award 2: the AFL players don't really know what they're on about, 3: the award means buggerall!!, & 4: WE will decide who the best captain is!! It just detracts from both awards.

19 of my 22 made it - i'm surprised !!

differences of opinion:

1) the back 6 make no sense. they have effectively chosen 5 talls, with Hodgey as a loose. how would they stack up against Collingwood forwardline of Davis/Didak/Medhurst/Thomas ??? i would've at least had Enright in the starting18 with Fisher on the bench.

2) no tagger. most teams use taggers! Brett Kirk would've given a legitiment representation of defensive midfielder / tagger. i have doubts over Judd's season, and would remove him to make way for Kirk.

3) Riewoldt/Franklin/Fevola are around the wrong way. Franklin should have been CHF, Fevola FF, Riewoldt FP.

4) Hille >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Sandilands.

Judd as captain in front of harley and reiwolt is an absolute joke. Its only because gerard healy loves the bloke he got the gig. If he was named captain of australia would probably join the opposition if they had more cash anyway LOL .:)

You don't watch much football then do you?

The best decision of the night. AA teams shouldn't include taggers.

Franklin played FF most of the year. Personally I would have had Franklin and Riewoldt as is and Fev wouldn't have made the side. He had a great year, but wasn't the best player in his position (Franklin was). Sticking him in a pocket is a cop out, and an insult to the blokes that actually play in the pocket all year.

Hell, I hate the little rodent, but Milne kicked 60 goals this year as a small forward...

I can't agreee with Judd as captain. He may be a genius, he may the gretest of all time, he may be the best leader in the western world. I can't believe how much these guys blow it up his $%^#@!

BUT, Carlton finished 11th! They did not make the finals. They never threatened the finals. How can you be the best captain in the AFL without team success?

Sam Fisher, Tom Harley and Dale Morris would all play small as often as they play tall, whilst Enright usually takes the opponents best HBF.

The 3 biggest games of the year are yet to be played and we have selected our best team for the year. Doesnt make sense.

Anyway based on the H and A season the team is fairly good. Judd as Captain is surprising but understandable. Medhurst is a good pick and well deserved. Happy to see Enright get a spot. Fairly much underrated by many. Think J Brown is a bit stiff. I certainly reckon he is in the best 22 players for the year. I wouldnt mind seeing a side with Brown at CHF and Reiwoldt and Richo on the wings.

Why should Harley automatically make the team?? Geelong are the current media love child. 7 players is a bit excessive. Wouldn't have thought Harley rated an automatic selection, purely because he is the cats skipper. I mean, most of the 7 deserve to be there, but there are always 10 more players who also 'deserve' to be there. Sammy mitchell very stiff to miss out... Even on the interchange. Are we saying Corey Enright had a better season than Mitchell??

Enright was better in his position than Mitchell was in his.
I agree Mitchell should have been in the team though, especially ahead of Chris Judd.

If you are picked as a big bodied defender inthe AA team, then you should be capable of playing week in week out on any of the big bodied forwards who are also in the AA team.
Tom Harley, whilst a very good footballer(no more no less) should not be in the best 22 because he does not and cannot do the above. He is not one of the best 6 defenders in the league. Scarlett to the pocket, put in any of Hudghton, Rutten or Croad, because week in week out they do the job on the big forwards.
Chris Judd, no doubt a wonderful footballer, and no doubt possibly the best player of the last 5 years. However, he has been picked in one of the 2 prime on ball positions for the 08 team without having been one of the 2 best on ballers for the season. Reputation should not precede performance when picking the AA team.
Cameron Ling was in the starting line up last year. Has played as well or better this year. Should be on the bench at least.
Matthew Pavlich. Why put him in the 22 when you have Franklin, Fevola, and Riewoldt who are all obviously worthy. There are heaps of midfielders and small forwards who could have been put on the bench to complete a balanced side ahead of him.
Aaron Sandilands. You need to do more than get hitouts to be AA ruckman

In short selectors have been pretty gutless.
.

Chris Judd is another media lovechild. Plays injured most of the year, well below his best, but somehow gets named as the skipper.
I know, and it wouldn't suprise me if Robert Walls had a major say in his selection, hell even Healey seems to have a hard on whenever he mentions Judds name.

Harley has been excellent in defence, and considering how many times he marks from opposition kicks and rebounds who wouldnt want that in your team? Not to mention his leadership qualities i would have thought in the past 2 years he has been a better captain then Judd.

And sorry to burst your bubble, but Enright is generally played in the backline with occasional runs midfield. Are you saying thats the role in the side that Mitchell plays? If not, then STFU and get a clue about what your own players roles are, and what other players roles are before making stupid comments.

Because people always get named in position when the AA side is picked?? Hardly...
