Meeting was held between Griffin and Adelaide yesterday to sort out his future. Adelaide are making last ditch bids to keep him from going. From what I heard a very nice looking contract extension was shoved under his nose but its still not near the coin Fremantle are offering. From what I gather also Griffin doesnt get along with many at the Crows and is bit of a outcast. Wants to return to W.A to be with his family but also wants to ensure Crows dont get screwed because of the faith they have shown in him

back peddling very quickly there oh wise one! :D

Anyway all my so called rumors have ended up in the papers just like I promised...

um... this is a bit special.

firstly, most rumours in the paper turn out to be shit
secondly, BF tends to be the sources for some of these hacks.

nothing to be proud of, especially seeing as you claimed you read this one originally in the WA press which makes not even your rumour.

Only unprofessional clubs would let a unhappy players contract run out. Your deluded if you think Griffin is gonna stay when Fremantle are willing to triple his current wages. As I said he wants to move back to Freo for family reasons but the money more then helps in this case.

Adelaide think if they throw the cash at him they can prevent him from leaving. I seriously doubt it will change anything. Anyway all my so called rumors have ended up in the papers just like I promised...

And that makes them true? I'm not sure what Perth media is like, but if its anything like the Adelaide media, then its about as credible as your average BF "source".

Word from the club is that Griffen has expressed his desire to remain with us and hence forgive me if I don't believe your rumour till I see it.

Now if it did happen, your kidding yourself if you think Adelaide will meakly roll over for a 2nd rounder + a little sweetner for our most natural and talented ruck prospect. Especially since, as has been stated, we hold all the cards. He is contracted and he is a required player, now this means that if Fremantle want him so badly, they are going to have to pay for him, this means a first rounder or equivalently rated player at the very least, we will be stating the terms of this trade, not Fremantle.

well it'll be a good battle of the wits.. the two dumbest clubs when it comes to trading going head to head

Club would be stupid to give in to every little SUGGESTED cry a player has.

As a previous poster mentioned, if Freo want him, and want to pay some big cash for him, they can pay some serious price for him. Otherwise enjoy having Gilmore (like him but he isn't a pure ruck) as your back up for a year.

Starting price if you want to grab an uncontracted young ruck prospect (and it's Freo) would be about Freo's first and a 2nd/3rd for Griff and #10.

Don't like it.....Wait till next year

Griff is horribly, horribly overated and I do not want him at Freo. I would rather have Bradley and Gilmore pinch hit around the awesome might of Sandilands. We also have Brent Connely on our rookie list who is ready to be promoted.

This draft is rich with talls and freo WILL NOT be giving up any early picks let alone 3.

You don't have to, i'd much rather keep him.

Enjoy Bradley :thumbsu:

Why would Griffin want to go to a club where he'll only play second fiddle to Sandilands?

Connelly ready? He hardly rucked all year.

Are you on the board, the recruitment team or part of the coaching team?

I think Kingross has a point when he states that Freo will not be giving away their early draft picks. If all the trade rumours prove true then they will be needing to replace at least 10 players this year - 7 retirements, plus a rookie delisting already announced, with Mundy, Carr, Warnock and now Campbell now all reportedly asking for trades to get out of there. Given these factors, it seems obvious that Freo will be looking for players or picks and that they will not want to lose any of the selections they currently have.

That said, I think Kingross is grossly underestimating the value of Griffin.

Griffin & Warnock are essentially equal in value and that value is a late first round draft pick (in the range 10-15). Griffin has achieved more than Warnock to date, but Warnock is a year younger and has had limited opportunities because of the presence of Sandilands. At the end of the day, there is little to separate the pair.

Their trade value has been set by precedents in previous years - Jolly (pick #15 in 2004) and Wood (pick #12 in 2007). Forget about arguments over whether Collingwood overpaid, Warnock and Griffin are better players anyway. That's the price any team will have to pay. Anything beyond pick #20 is an insult to both Freo & Adelaide.

As for whether Griffin will be traded, it seems to me that this is becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy. Big Cox reports it here on BigFooty, some journalist does a story based on nothing more than an internet rumour and all of a sudden Big Cox is able to claim that his original claim is correct. Forget about the fact that Griffin is contracted for 2009 and Neil Craig has stated that he's not going anywhere...

In 2002 the Saints traded pick 6 for an untried Barry Brooks, that throws the comparisons out of whack.

Come trade week I have an inkling that the Crows will try to cash in on an inflated Griffin trade value.

There is no evidence for this, just a vague notion.

I'm sure this is a sign of the coming apocalypse - but, Asgardian, I agree with you.

Reported on Channel Nine news tonight that he wants to go home because hes home sick. His management denied it, but....

His management denied it 2 weeks ago when Crows were going to offer him a brand new contract extension which turned out to be a very poor offer. They should ask his management again for the real answer

Gosh, looks like he's found a magical cure for 'homesickness' there. Just throw some $$ his way. Sounds like just the kind of player you'd want to be chasing. :thumbsd:

More the opportunities then the money. Hes not gonna get gametime anyway at Adelaide. Atleast at Freo he will get games and ALOT higher wages. Its called a smart career move really.

He won't get any game time at all playing for Fremantle, the only second string ruckman who will ever get gametime in the next 4 years for Freo will be a mobile one, which Griffin is not.

At Adelaide he'll be part of a first choice ruck tandem for the next decade.

Don't know where you're getting your mail from, but it sounds like it's coming right out of a Player Manager's PR sleaze machine.

Probably listened to his money grubbing manager too often.

Bradley or Gilmore is not even Griff's boot lace

Griff will be a top tier ruckman in no time at all

well it'll be a good battle of the wits.. the two dumbest clubs when it comes to trading going head to head

bit hard on Adelaide

trading is not as easy as people would like to believe, IMO Adelaide has it shares of success stories

Scott Thompson and Scott Stevens are two players that come to mind

People need to realise, if a player is out of contract and wants to go, his club has little or no negotiation power

In Griff's case, he is a contracted player so the crows hold all the aces

Darren Jarman and Andrew Mcleod were fairly decent trades as well, pick 37 for Meesen is getting better and better each week, as is 37 for Moran, we also snared Koster, Caven, Bond etc. through trades, IMO we're not doin too bad.

That's an interesting comment, one worthy of its own thread.

I'll do so research and create a thread after I've done some homework
