Re: CatsVCollingwood-nab Cup Grandfinal thread

Cats should be at least 50+ up now. Missed some sitters but if the Cats continue to play like this I can see a 80 point win coming up.

Re: CatsVCollingwood-nab Cup Grandfinal thread

Haven't seen a lot of Tom Hawkins' but are his kicking skills undesirable?
Listening to the radio and he seems to have shanked 2 from 10m out.

Not a dig at all just he is 'talked up' and I don't know what his strengths and weakness are.

Oh god those were some terrible kicks. We would have 2 extra goals if anyone but him had taken those shots. Has a long way to go before I'd rely on him as our full forward.

Re: CatsVCollingwood-nab Cup Grandfinal thread

4 goals to 2 in the 3rd quarter. Cats cruising to the line. Joel Selwood to win the Michael Tuck Medal

Gaz is making a late rush to the line for the Tuck medal though.

Good win Cats.

Bad luck to Hunt, maybe not as bad as first thought.:thumbsu:

Thanks to the dumb thug complete hack in Chris Bryan for helping our guys step out of pre season gear in the 2nd for 20 minutes of proper football setting up the win.

Re: CatsVCollingwood-nab Cup Grandfinal thread

I honestly thought we'd get rolled tonight but kudos to the team and the coaching staff - they gave the pies what we usually cop from them, non stop pressure.

Chappy - looking good, this move to the midfield could be a real good thing
Ablett - Ablett, nuff said
Selwood - geez this kid is hard, would be the best player I have seen drop down to number 7 in the draft, what a pickup.
Taylor - I keep telling myself this is only his second year, what a gem
Scarlett - see ablett above.
Lonergan - I was very critical of him tonight but thought he did well when moved to defence. We should go a bit easier on him, no he can't take an overhead contested mark but a tall utility that can play defence and pinch hit in the forward line?.....he could be really handy.
Enright - I get more and more impressed with him every year, he just doesn't seem to do anything wrong, he was excellent tonight.
Mackie - if ever there was a guy that looks rusty in the pre-season he is it but he looked in late 2007 form tonight.
Gamble - I love this bloke, he is what we need in the forward 50
Varcoe - still think he has lost some of that front 50 defensive work that impressed me 2 years ago - needs to work harder in that area but he looked so much better than last weekend. We just need consistency from him.

I liked Hawkins tonight to, sure his kicking was crap but he just had the yips, the pies defence really struggled to get around his big frame and he is the presence we need at FF.

And a huge:thumbsdown: to the umpires (particularly McLaren) who in the first half called every minor infringement they could find. I don't blame the pies supporters being a bit peeved at some of the decisions (not that it would have changed the result). But fair dinkum...this isn't bloody netball:mad:

the old collingwood proctologist gets everywhere - he has a finger in every pie.

That guy has played some major roles in recent GFC history (think 'that' Smithy smother). His pissweak shirtfront sure did piss young Selwood off, he had the next 3 consecutive clearances which all lead to goals, and then kicked the 4th goal himself. Super star.

Couple weeks off I'd say. Is that good or bad for Collingwood?

Well if he is still getting a game I guess they don't have much else. Give Neon a run in the ruck perhaps.

Boris was absolutely top notch tonight too, as was Mackie. Their kicking, along with Selwood, was as close to perfect as you would have wanted.

Who did Dale Thomas play on tonight or who were some of the players that played on him?

Are you serious? He surely can't get weeks for that unless there was head high contact which I didn't see. (I was at a pub and drinking so there is some fallibility in that I think is true)

Lonergan - I agree with you. I have been critical of him in the pre-season (carried on over from GF) but I liked what I saw in the last quarter when he was in defence.
Hawkins - Did an alright job except for his yips. I wouldn't expect him to miss those shots in the next game. I think it became a mental obstacle and that will be cured with experience.
Umpiring - As I said I was at a pub with no sound on the tv. I didn't think the umpiring was that bad. There were a few frees that went against us but I think there were others that went our way.

Yep, very pleased with the showing from Mackie and Enright. Boris just seems to get better every year, he is so solid and his disposal has improved out of sight.

Mackie's kicking was spectacular tonight, I thought. I can't remember a single missed pass and many of them were perfect bullets.

Re: CatsVCollingwood-nab Cup Grandfinal thread

Tom Hawkins is playing with no confidence at the minute, and it is blatantly obvious. Which is a shame because he showed tonight what a threat he can be the way he man- handled some of Collingwood's big- bodied defenders in one-on-one contested situations. On paper he has everything we need in a big forward, he just needs to relax, feel like he belongs and convert his opportunities.

Shirtfront after the kick. Lined him up and went bang.

I don't think he'll get rubbed out, pretty sure his shoulder hit Selwood in the chin but ... that's ok now right? Our boy was too tough and got up, had a few bones been smashed things would be different. But the AFL altered a rule to avoid further embarrassment at another club highlighting wrong rules on high contacts so who the **** knows.

I saw it as after the play and completely unnecessary front on contact that also hit high. I'm all for tough legit bumps, but that one wasn't legit and could have done damage if it wasn't on Selwood.

Re: CatsVCollingwood-nab Cup Grandfinal thread

Nobody and nobody. And he still did nothing.

The reason I ask this is because he was listed as their second best player, and to be honest I thought he did sweet f-all.

I really dont understand how he is rated as one of the best players in the AFL etc. when all he does is maybe take a big mark now and then and kick a cheap goal here or there. He kicked 2 goals tonight late in the third quarter when they were 52pnts down and then one in the last when they were 58pnts down. Both of his goals were from marks when he was standing by himself uncontested too so I just wondered who he may of played on to deserve to be rated Collingwoods second best.
