i have it on good authority that he will be picked up on either the main list or as a mature age rookie...

hes 28 and will be put on as a backup key forward, better option than tom lonergan i spose...

Re: james podsiadly to be listed by geelong

definatley better option than Lonergan..

If true, I think it's a smart move.
It's the kind of left of centre thinking we need to employ with our consistent lack of late draft picks.
He's basically hired around the club anyway as a physio.
So long as it doesn't halt the development of a young player.
It might well indicate that the club doesn't want to fast track Mitch Brown?
Have Moons and Podsiadly overlap for a year until Brown or someone else comes good?

Bit hard to judge. Lonners is a very good VFL play (BOG in a VFL GF), so what is to say that Pods will be any better than him in the seniors?

I'm not convinced adding Podsiadly to the senior list will add anything, but I suppose it could be just in case we have a bad run with injuries.

Pass. Would rather pump games into Mitch Brown.

Re: James Podsiadly to be listed by Geelong

I'm not totally opposed to the idea. I think the club saw this year that if a 'key' (read important, not tall) forward goes down they can hard to replace. If Johno or Chapman go down we can rotate midfielders through the 50 arc. But can you imagine if that happened to Mooney? (We need Otto in the ruck).

I think someone like Pods would be a better "mentor", to Hawkins, than Lonergan. I'm not sure it reeks of desperation more like "we are really good chance to get another one this year" let's make sure we have some contingencies in place.

Um, am I missing something here - a consistent lack of late picks??

It might be that if Brown hadn't busted his leg up so badly this wouldn't be happening so it might be an insurance measure in the event that Mooney or Hawkins get injured.

Can't say I'm super thrilled with the idea but it could turn into a master stroke. I just would rather these 5 selections to be utilised on kids prior to GC17 and WS.

Smith was probably the only "older" player I would have considered and that is only because he is 23 and, if his body gets right, would be a gun.

Re: James Podsiadly to be listed by Geelong

He would snap in half if he played AFL at this stage of his development.

Yeah. Just like Mackie has been going to do for the past 7 years!!!

Pods is clearly the best player in the VFL. He is so dominant in that competition it's ridiculous.

He deserves a shot at the big time even at 28.

Mackie looks more bendy than snappy :p

Re: James Podsiadly to be listed by Geelong

I'm open to it.

I read in the paper the other day though that he was going overseas with Sando to research fitness and conditioning centres of a few big international teams, I think it might have been the English Rugby Union set up.

That sort of indicates the club are more interested in developing him as staff rather than a player. I think he adds something to the list, if Mooney goes down there is a question mark over Hawkins ability to lead the forward line. Pods provides another option and people are kidding themself if they think Brown can step right in off a season ending injury, he's probably behind where he was when drafted last year.

I agree...years ago he was the best FF in the VFL and nothing's changed with age.

I'm not an ageist...I have nothing wrong with older players so long as their curve isn't on the downward...and it isn't with Pods.

If it is true....he's probably there just as insurance and won't play unless there are serious injuries...while continuing to captain the VFL side and work at the club.

Look given our lack of key forwards it's a good insurance move. Just put aside age issues for a minute and ask yourself one question : if Mooney does a knee at training on the week of the 2010 GF, do you want Mitch Brown or Pods coming in to play at FF? As much as Brown is a big part of our club's future, I defy any rational thinking person to say they'd want the former.

So if it's happening (and it may not happen b/c it's all up to whether Pods wants to give AFL a go and he may not) it's a reasonable decision I'd support. And particularly given the new mature age rookie rule, it would cost us sweet bugger all anyway.

Re: james podsiadly to be listed by geelong

yeah I seen that later. oopsy:eek:

I must be getting senile;)

Isn't 28 too old for a mature age rookie? I think he would need to go on the list if they were to do it.

As far as I am aware there is no upper age limit on the mature age rookie rule. Thereotically you could list a 50 year old under the rule if you so desired :p

Go Pods :thumbsu:

ablett snr come on down...:D jk jk
nah podsiadly can step in for mooney and since we droped simpson then were short on tall fwds so why not? besides he kicks bags regularly he might be able to keep mooney out of the side hahaha. i dont think he has injury concerns and is definatly a bandade solution so we can have a red hot crack at a premiership or two

Re: James Podsiadly to be listed by Geelong

Im pretty sure Pods was listed as an AFL player at Collingwood a few years back?
Either way could be handy to throw him in, gives us an extra option up forward and can take some heat off Moons and Tomahawk..

Re: James Podsiadly to be listed by Geelong

Trained with the bulldogs I think for 2 years in a row and still couldn't get on our list even though we had Chris Grant as our only power forward. I would say it's false
