Re: Forests Blake Thread

But when the guy's around him are having an off day Blake becomes even more of a liability becuse he is then forced to show his kicking skills which haven't progressed at all since he was drafted

Sounds like most AFL footballers.

Whose kicking has actually improved in the Geelong side for instance.

Re: Forests Blake Thread

ha ha you guys crack me up. How many ruckman actually kick the ball like you say Blake should be by now? Remember the Prelim final last year and that 45m pass straight to chappy? Ruck rovers are not the norm, Blakey is a classic ruckman, not a ruck rover like Cox or the Nat or even Otto. I am not syaing Blakey is perfect or that sun shines out of his backside, or is smarter than anyone else in the team. But for what he is, he is OK.

I see all you guys making these assumptions and you don't even know the bloke. I find that ridiculous.

Re: The Full Blake Thread

No, he doesn't deserve his medal. This bloke is a cancer. You really think he will ever hold the no1 ruck spot against decent ruckmen? Time to give simpson a few games to see if he can replace ottens.

I challenge you to watch the 2009 GF again, this time with unbiased eyes.

Blake more than held his own in that game, and was on the ball at crucial times when we took control of the stoppages, and thus took control of the game.

Ottens was not much of a factor in the GF, and without Blake standing up, I would say we would have been hard pressed to win.

Re: The Full Blake Thread

This thread is just going to turn into an attack on those who dont rate Blake by members of the cheersquad who believe critising a player means you dont support the team. I hate that whole mantra.

gb:eek:

No it's not.

If you can bring some actual analysis to the discussion, rather than usual propoganda of "balke is crap, and he can't kick n stuff", then people will listen to you. Otherwise, you are just blowing hot air.

Here is the bottom line:

When Blake is on the ball, we win the clearances.

If he continues to give our mids an armchair ride, then I don't care if he doesn't get a kick for the entire match. And I can also put up with a few clangers from him if need be....

Re: Forests Blake Thread

Huh?

Are you just hitting random keys on a keyboard.

No he isn't perfect, and there's a number of rucks from opposition clubs that I'd rather have, but he's clearly our best option at the moment.

And FWIW I'd rather have Blake than King.

Bingo

Re: The Full Blake Thread

not sure if this has already been said..but..in the freo game, Big Daw was used in link up plays, we rarely see Blake in these situations. Give him a decent run. We are playing Richmond this week. Why not play Daw with Blake and see who the REAL number 2 ruckman is..just my opinion...

Re: The Full Blake Thread

In regrds to the post about Blake in the GF...he was up against King. King has been useless since the start of 2008..he is past his prime, injury prone and can not make a impact on a game what so ever.. Blake is in the team and I love the Cats, but, we should be looking at alternatives. It couldnt hurt (once we are locked in for top 4)

In a way , we sort of did this last year. We looked at alternatives when Ottens was out, gave Mumford games , gave him credibility and it bit us on the A. I would hate for big Daw to come in and show enough to interest the GC or someone else and we lose him. Maybe West deserves a go. Ruck him and Hawkins with Ottens doing 50% , Id say West is gone at the end of the year anyway. Before anymore games for Simpson , I'd like to see him locked in for the next couple.

Have watched the whole thing 11x and you are spot on.

Dawson is contracted until the end of 2011.

All that shows is you don't watch much footy outside of Geelong games tbh.

Re: The Full Blake Thread

has blake ever contributed to a passage of play except for tap tap tapping

All the time, lot of handpasses to running creative mids resulting in forward thrusts, but with anti Blake glasses on , you wouldn't appreciate those efforts.

Re: The Full Blake Thread

i can't wait for the blake lovers to quote his performance today as evidence of his greatness

Re: The Full Blake Thread

One of those handballs was intercepting a Richmond forward thrust and setting up another Geelong inside 50.

His taps were very good today.

Fine game from a tap ruckman. You guys are insulting Ottens, he's a gun for us and you act like every ruckman should be able to play like him.

no we expect a 'tap ruckman' to actually do a little more than tap the ball in the ruck

maybe get a kick, maybe 5-10 possessions and have a presence around the ground

not asking for much, especially against richmond
