I can't think of another "tweener" that was tearing up AFL football at 20 years of age. He's going to take time.

Jacks decision making and skill execution are what frustrated me yesterday. They are usually his strengths.

I just think that with the amount of crap he has gone through over the past 2 seasons, he needs a couple of blowout games in an easier setting to tune up the skills and fitness base a little. If he does play seniors, put him forward, ask him to kick some goals and provide a contest.

Yeah, nah, yeah, maybe.

His size would have him pushing around 50% of VFL players like they were helium filled balloons.

I would only put him in the VFL if his confidence was completely shot and we need to remember that this kid has been a high achiever as a junior footballer.

I'll back him in for another run in the seniors, however, if he has a similiar match to yesterdays effort, then he would be straight in to the VFL for the bye round.

In fact, I would play him in the bye round anyway.

Just turned 20, too. Given the way he carries himself, his frame and hardness and all of that, it's very tough to remember that in two years he'll still be a kid in football terms.

They are his strengths, your're right, and it's why that other from the impact on the game yesterday, it's not a concern generally.

If Jack was a cheap footballer whose intention it was to look good and not play instinctive, hard, proper football, he would be judged much more favourably. He'd back off, cheat around contests, cruise into easy spots and float about. As it stands, he does it the hard way and does team things, so his current deficiencies are shown up. It's a credit to the kid.
He'll be outstanding consistently, but he'll need time.

He's only played 26 games or so as well. He's a baby in terms of AFL footy and, coming back from the setbacks he has, he would've been nervous as hell out there last night. He's back, the crap game's out of the way, he's hopefully confident his legs can withstand the rigours of AFL again now, and he's still a kid.

I hope he plays a blinder against the Pies.

Im guessing 32 possessions, 12 clearances, 8 tackles and 4 goals.

You people bagging this kid are complete dipshits. You are the same people that labelled Greenwood "no good" "shit kick" and all that crap after 1-2 games.

Some of the comments on Cunnington, Ziebell and our other young footballers is complete dog shit. Where was the support from Boomer in all this? Senior players need to step up before we expect so much of our young guys. If you don't believe in these kids you may aswell go and barrack for another team, because they are out future and its simple as that.

He was one of the very youngest drafted in '08 (and in fact under the current rules Jack couldn't have been drafted in '08 and would have been pushed back to the '09 draft).

Since then he's missed the equivalent of a full season of footy, with injuries that have prevented him from building endurance.

So while technically a 3rd year player, for all intents and purposes he's effectively a late 1st year player who in the judgement of some has just played one bad game roughly 2 to 3 years out from the time at which we hope he'll be an integral part of a top-4 midfield.

I suggest that we all take a deep breath and let the bloke settle into our best 22 over the course of the season.

without any runs on the board.

You need to sit down and have a good hard look at these videos. There are plenty more examples out there as well but I thought seen as though your memory is so shocking I'd just post 2. :p

Personally, I love the big fella.

He's added some size in the upper body whilst he's been unable to do leg work and is clearly going to have some issues with the motor given how long he's been out of footy.

But one thing that can't be questioned is his endeavour. The kid has more guts that Kim Beazley and just needs to get back to match fitness.

He had a shocker yesterday, but as indicated above, that's a bit of an anomaly in his very short career thus far.

I hope he comes out next week and smashes it!

Well I knew it wasn't going to be popular. I just get sick our kids automatically getting labeled as fututre superstars without any runs on the board.

Brayden Norris will be SPECIAL!

LOL, but it's OK to label a kid who wasn't good enough to play in his first year (unlike Jack) as "SPECIAL".

You're getting kicked in this thread, speedy, because your OP was crap and you've been digging yourself further down since.

Not entirely sure what you mean. Does Sidebottom fall under your definition of a cheap footballer? Or does Dale Thomas?
And which team things did Jack do last night?

I am not one of those who are calling for him to be dropped, but I must admit, as unpopular as it sounds, that I don't share your confidence that he will be an outstanding footballer. He may well be, but to me, I haven't seen enough runs on the board to be sure.

I am happy to give him plenty of time though, given his age and injuries. But there is a big difference between that, and giving him captaincy in 2 years time. He hasn't yet shown that he is the player for the modern game, although I hope that he is.

I thought it was relatively simple to grasp.

No, and I'm not sure where you've yanked those two blokes from. Or why.

And which team things did Jack do last night?

Is last night's game now the only usable evidence we have for the formations of opinions on North players? Or just until the next game?

Ok.

Bad game, but he is the surest gun out of the young guys. Big, strong, couragous, good skills, good overhead, good attitude.

Go back and watch the Collingwood game in his first year if you doubt what he will do.

Will be fully firing by round 6 is my guess.

This board is a joke after losses - shameful really. He had a horrid game, yes, but why the need to torch him? May be warranted if it was because of a lack of trying but it's never the case with Jack, he ran himself into the ground.

I'm a bit worried that he hasn't improved his fitness but it's understandable since he's missed a lot of footy in his young career.

I'd be tempted to play him as a sub in some games where fitness wouldn't be an issue, but this shitty rule is dangerous to use tactically. Playing it safe and waiting until 3QT and he won't have much time to settle. Put him on earlier and we could get a few injuries which would basically cost us the game.

Don't expect him to own the competition this season. He needs to play out a full season and work on his tank first.

Post of the entire board since Sunday night. :thumbsu:

Mike Sheahan reminded people tonight that the Swans lost their first game of the season in 1996 by 90pts, before going on to play us in the GF.

Round ONE.............Twenty one games remain, for the club AND the individuals copping early heat (no pun intended).

Im not sure hes ever gonna make it in the midfield.

Is he tall enough to play a Leigh Colbert role in the backline?

Colby 192 cm
Jack 188cm

.........and Colby had a better leap.

I see Jack as a "catalyst" player. You throw him around to improve a certain section of the team.

Give him time to get match fitness up Jeez. He is essential 2 years behind the recruits from the same year so no use comparing to Sidebottom or anyone else.
