Re: Famous DT Coaches Thread 2011

If Bax likes Duff, and he obviously does given that he brought him in, I don't see the point of waiting. Ok, so Duff has a BE of 94, if he gets say 80, what does he go down? 5k? 10k? Just take the points. I'm not really a proponent of squeezing each and every dollar out of each player. The "real price" is a bit misleading in the sense that it will take quite a while for the player to get there, ie they'll make like 5k a week for several more weeks to reach their peak price. I dont really wait for the end of those minimal price increases. Once a player isn't going to be making 20k+ each week anymore, i'm happy to trade them out.
What I mean is, Duigan could score 60-70 odd and possibly drop the same amount as Duffield so it's not as if the trade had to have been made this week or he would have missed out on the Duffield train completely. Which basically means he could have just had another look at Duffield if he wanted to and maybe lose 20-40 odd points.

Re: Famous DT Coaches Thread 2011

This weeks trades:

Out: Duigan
In: Enright

Out: Josh Fraser
In: Mr 211, Aaron Sandilands

Could no longer justify losing about 50 odd points a week by not having 211.
Duigan to Enright, didn't work this week but Enright is a gun and should bounce back.
Good to see Goodes bounce back but dirty I didn't go with Boyd for Captain like I initially was going too!

Re: Famous DT Coaches Thread 2011

Harris>Iles
Duigan>Duffield

As several have mentioned, Iles is a mature club B&F winner, will play if fit. Harris about topped out, and actually avging about 10 ppg less than I expected. Thought about trading out Bewick or Prestia instead, but didn't want too many Suns benchies come next bye, plus both these guys have money to make when they come back.

Duigan likely to struggle to make BE this week, and my backline is in need of more best 22 players. I won't lie, Enright would have been my target if I had a spare 40K, but Duff was the guy I've gone to. Reasons? Better role last week, Hayden back soon should see Duff released, showed promising scoring, and TBH, a BAC capable of avg 80 ppg for 300K is a good get.

Wow  i have Duffield in my team and can't wait to trade him out. (still have him in my team) so hopefully he comes good.

Really not many backs to pick from this year.

Re: Famous DT Coaches Thread 2011

While I think my trading logic this week was sound, it has been annoying what happened to this weeks results.

Swallow -> Illes

This was basically to release some cash for upgrades. It was a decision in my eyes between Illes and Wallis. I picked Illes purely for the JS factors and it is highly likely that Illes will sit at M9 for the whole season, so he had to play week in and week out.

Now it came time to spend some of my money, so two decisions had to be made, which player to upgrade and who should I upgrade that player to?

Prestia/Krakouer/Matera/Tapscott

Those were the player I was considering to upgrade and like the Iles decision, you just never know what might happen and I wanted to upgrade the weakest JS player. While Prestia had a very low BE, I was just worried he might not get a game for a while.

Who to upgrade was the next question and only two players were considered, Chapman or Selwood. If I selected Selwood this week, I was aiming to get Chapman within the next two weeks. If I selected Chapman, my M6 position was still up in the air.

Selwood was a bit cheaper with a lower BE, but I picked Chapman because stupidly I thought he would make a great captains option.

Prestia -> Chapman

If I did not trade Chapman into my side, Boyd would have been made captain and Selwood would have been picked. Those two issues have cost my 100 points, rather annoying in some ways. I guess it is only week one of this trade, but still does not stop yourself being slightly annoyed.

Re: Famous DT Coaches Thread 2011

Did You have enough for rawlings bax?
Nope... sadly not.

Bar his 09 season where he only played 10 games (he averaged 66 that year) he hadn't averaged under 75 DT since 2005 so why were you expecting him to average about 65 when for a solid chunk of his career he had averaged about 75 odd (which is what he currently averages)? According to FF Genie, Harris's 'real price difference' is $74,900 so he still does have a bit of money to make so I wouldn't really say he is just about topped out (but I guess that's if you expect the 65 average not the 75 which he is averaging).
footylover had it right, not expecting 65, was expecting 85. Yes, he's not 100% topped out, but he's not going to be ramping up in price over the next few weeks.

Considering Duffield's breakeeven is 94 this week, were you tempted to wait a week on this trade just to see how he performs again to make sure upgrading Duigan to Duffield would be the correct move (although you are expecting Hayden to be the one to improve his scores once he comes back)?
Well yeah, I was, but had two trades earmarked for next week, so that sort of forced my hand for this week. It was a bit reckless, granted, but I'd only spent two trades before Rd 7, so felt comfortable taking the punt.

Same. Unless like a Bewick type, they're still basically bottom-priced. I'll wait a few weeks on them.

Hindsight being what it is, Duff reverted back to a similar role this week. Thought Harvey had decided to go back to 2010... he hadn't. Duff sucked.

Batchelor sitting on pine outscoring many of my starting backs also annoying.

My mistake, thought it was a touch odd to be expecting him to average 65.

I think many of us overrated what we expected the Gold Coast players to average this year (well at least I did). With the likes of Stanley, Toy, Iles (might be a bit early on him), Matera and Harris all have underperformed to what I believe many of us were expecting them to average which has been slightly disappointing. I guess this is because they have been beaten by a fair bit by most teams so they haven't got as much of the ball and such. But something I guess I never really gave much thought to but something I will keep in mind with GWS next season.

Makes perfect sense, I was just seeing whether you had jumped the gun a little rather then playing it safe but when you have another two trades planned out for the following week then it makes perfect sense to pull the trigger slightly early (trades in the next few weeks are going to be rather hectic, especially with Grimes going down at a very bad time...).

Batchelor seems to be like a die at this stage, throwing up scores as high as 83 to as low as 26 with a few numbers in between. Hopefully with any luck we can see a few more higher ones to make a bit of $$$.

Has anyone been tracking Director's team and trades? Am interested to know how he is progressing this year compared to last.

I have been following a little, but I've missed a few weeks.

I don't think he has used very many trades at all. I'm pretty sure he brought in Curnow after R2, I think he brought in Smack as well in a sideways shuffle, and possibly has added one premium to midfield (although with no Sandilands it is feasible that he started with 5 premium Mids). Could be as few as 2 trades used.

He is well placed, and has no Grimes to deal with this week.

Re: Famous DT Coaches Thread 2011

Convicts is flying :thumbsu:

Disappointed with the DT talk boys :(

yes he's ranked 173.

It's interesting to see some of the top 500 teams atm.

Backlines are almost the same except for the combos of Grimes/Enright/Duffield

Mid/Fwds have slight differences between main players such as Watson/Murphy/O'Keefe/Pav/Montagna/Sylvia

Some still have Krak, some don't but kept Yarran.

The form of Knights would worry a few too.

Some have Cox/Sandi, some have Cox/Petrie/Hale.

Most have Bartel/Curnow/Goodes/Boyd/..with benches of Libba,Harris, Swallow or Atley.

Some have Swan and Pendles, some have only one of them.

Will be interesting to see in the coming weeks how these high ranked teams trade in and add different players such as maybe Chappy/Mitchell/Mundy/Selwood..etc

Re: Famous DT Coaches Thread 2011

Down week this week to 258th :/ Curnow, Grimes, SJ all highlights.

Prob downgrade Grimes to a rookie such as Puopolo and use the leftover coin to go Curnow > GUN (Watson quite likely)

Re: Famous DT Coaches Thread 2011

My thoughts on trading with just on $120k in the kitty...

- Knights vs GC means I keep the faith, at least for this week.
- Richo is dead weight with Rawlings moving to HB rebounder for North, so he should go.
- Probably a good week to trade out Laidler, bye + injury.
- I don't like starting Lower in the Derby, Luke Thompson with an injury, or Suns at AAMI so I'd like to upgrade in the backs.

Looking at this early stage at Laidler => Shaw and maybe Richardson => Patrick. Next week I'd ideally want Stanley => Puopolo and Matera => Pavlich/Goodes.

What injury did L.Thompson pick up? I havent heard a thing.

Re: Famous DT Coaches Thread 2011

What's not to like about Lower in the derby Mont compared to any other week? If Pav plays forward more Lower could spend some more time in the middle. I'd expect a fair lift across the board from Freo.

Re: Famous DT Coaches Thread 2011

Hmm, I may be getting my Thompsons mixed up. I know ST was carrying a calf strain, but I thought I remembered Luke getting a knock too. Maybe not.

I'd expect Lower to tag in the derby, or at least play a role and not rack up points.

Not the first time this has happened...
