Funny how two of the coaches mentioned are currently Port assistants.

Funny? No wai...

nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn :(

Not Robert Walls. Just a Fitzroy supporter who's watched a hell of a lot of games that Walls has coached. You?

Seeing that you failed to answer my question the first time, I'll ask you again.

What the hell has so-called "folding/merging" got to do with how good or bad a coach is or isn't?

He stunk up your club so bad that you had to fold/were forced into a gay marriage with Brisbane

sorry to say, but yes he is up there. but he does run 2nd to..............

GRANT THOMAS.

the biggest coaching spud theres ever been. had a great list, a tremendous list, a list that could beat anyone & everyone, but screwed them with his 'i know better than everyone else' attitude, his deplorable coaching when up against better tacticians like roos & williams & worsfold.
he had 3 years (04 to 06) that were his for the taking before geelong took over, and mucked it up.

/now end thread.

You're ignoring all the injury problems we had in 04/05/06, we were never able to field our full strength team in finals.

Thomas wasn't perfect but he was far from the worst coach going around, you don't make two prelims by being a complete dud. The 04 prelim against Port was one of the greatest games I've seen and we could have easily won that and been a good chance of winning the GF against Brisbane the week after.

yep robert shaw. neil craig has made the finals every year as a coach except last year (and probably this year)

Robert Shaw by a big margin

Adelaide wouldn't have their Bradbury premierships if it wasn't for Shaw. He put the side together.

Tony Shaw
Michael Voss
Neil Craig
Brett Ratten
Anyone who's coached Fremantle
Wayne Britton anyone?

Alistair Clarkson has to be the worst coach floating around presently.
Hawthorn should be a genuine finals contender and should have been the last couple of years too with their list. Instead their as inconsistent a team as you will find.
Sack him.

my top 5 ( a couple will hurt)

Peter rhode,a complete nong,handy footballer
Graham gellie, cut down in his prime as a footballer, could not coach
Wayne Schimmelbusch,true champion,but not a coach
Gary buckenara, one of my favourites, disasterous coach, found his calling in recruiting.
Peter knights, nice bloke, but wrong place ,wrong time, twice.

the winner would have to be peter rhode.

yeah i remember their injury issues, but geez i think he was responsible for those too, with his IM IN CONTROL attitude.

i know we'll forever disagree on the saints current list, but i will forever fully acknowledge they should have been unbveatable during that 04-06 period, but could not get over the line when it counted because of the inability of that spud GT.

GT and his best mate/worst enemy butterss cost you flags - end of story.

Quite frankly you wouldn't have the faintest idea what Walls did or didn't do at Fitzroy. Don't make out like you have a clue about anything to do with Fitzroy. You've shown time after time that you don't.

And "gay marriage"? You've got no idea about any of that either. On so many levels.

Neil Balme for sure.

Took over a handy Demons outfit and they "coached themselves" to a Prelim in 94, and then..... NOTHING. If not for Joe Gutnick fortitude and LOVE of the MFC, Balme would have single handedly been responsible for the Melbourne Hawks (or Hawthorn Demons, whatever way).
Then he had the audacity to disguise himself as a "Football Manager" for clubs that he saw as "on the rise" so he could take the credit.
First was Collingwood, late 90s/early 00s, but when that premiership eluded them he was "moved on" so he imposed himself on the next "up and coming" club - The Cats, and guess what? HE won those now famous flags and will gladly tell you who was responsible for THAT.
The guy is a glory hound of the highest order, and don't be surprised if he ends up at the Suns within the next couple of years, when Geelong's wheels start to fall off...
Absolute Crab.
