Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats [Part 2]

Deja vu almost for the Saints, as the Pies today win 16.12.108 to 7.9.51...

St.Kilda failing by one behind to exactly replicate the Grand Final replay scores in 2010.

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats [Part 2]

Round 11 2011

1) In Geelong's last two 2nd quarters v WB/Footscray they have scored a total of 18.5-113 v 2.6-18.

2) 65 pts: Sydney/SM's highest winning margin in a match where they lost the 2nd half by more than a goal. Previous: Round 1, 1960 defeated St Kilda by 51 points after losing the 2nd half by 7 points.

3) Collingwood is the first team to win both Grand Final and rematch in all 4 quarters.

4) 170.2% Collingwood's highest for and against percentage after 10 matches since 186.2% in 1905.

5) 130.6%: Hawthorn's highest percentage after 10 matches since 145.8 in 1989.

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats [Part 2]

^^^^^^

Always a pleasure to read the run-down after every round, and certainly reading Geelong's brings extra joy, it's becoming a little like War and Peace now with the various records and new ground Geelong is creating with this era.

Must say Collingwood's last quarter record this season is fearsome, something like almost 270%, thus they score esentially three points to one against other sides in that term. That trend will take some beating this year.

Thanks for the toast.
The record for and against percentage for a last quarter in a season is 292.5% by Collingwood in 1902.

Round 12 2011

Geelong currently has now won the highest percentage of matches of any team since 1983. (Overtaking Essendon) Geelong 58.36%, Essendon 58.25%, Hawthorn 58.05%.

I just knew Essendon had been the best team in the league over the last 30 or so years!

Well, I didn't really, but it's easier to focus on that than the fact we haven't won for a month

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats [Part 2]

1) Collingwood has currently won 90.91% of their last quarters, which is higher than any team for a full season.

2) Brisbane’s best win percentage result for the last quarter was in 2002, but Fitzroy pips that result in 1961.

3) Collingwood’s current for and against percentage for the last quarter of 269.8% is better than all teams’ highest for a complete season with the exceptions of Fitzroy in 1900 and Collingwood themselves in 1902.

4) University’s best for and against percentage for the first quarter is higher than Fremantle’s and Port Adelaide’s highest.

5) Hawthorn’s club record of 7 consecutive 2nd quarter wins was set in 1937-1938!

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats [Part 2]

Catch up on some retro-history (and see the damage the recent losses have done) here.

Just to think... in order for Collingwood to bring their W/L ratio closer to 50%, all they'd need to do is lose every match for the next 24 or so seasons!

Also, love this little tidbit:

"Since 2003 Adelaide has played 9 more matches than Carlton but has conceded 4166 fewer points"

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats [Part 2]

Round 13 2011

1) Port Adelaide has scored more 3rd quarter goals this year than any other team from 12 matches.

2) 86.37%: The highest percentage of their total score ever scored by Sydney/SM in the first and last quarters of a match v Carlton. Previous: 79.59% round 16, 1905.

3) The 3rd time this year that Melbourne has doubled an opponent's score, their most in one season since 3 for the whole of 1995. Most: 6 in 1960.

4) Combined scores last 6 matches: Geelong 63.60-438 v St Kilda 62.59-431

5) Richmond's average score conceded after 12 matches.
2007 - 112.3 points
2008 - 108.1 points
2009 - 107.3 points
2010 - 107.0 points
2011 - 106.3 points

First round in which three teams scored exactly 100 points.

Three teams kicking the same score in a round has happened 77 times in all, with 50 different scores between 37 and 132. No score has been recorded four times in the same round.

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats [Part 2]

Ron, Richmond have now gone and played in Darwin, bye, Sydney and Brisbane. Has a Victorian side ever played three consecutive games interstate before? (ignoring the bye).

Yes i also know that's mainly as a consequence of the decision by Tiger management to sell the game to Darwin.

On another slightly humourous note, it could be argued Collingwood has travelled further than anyone, as their last two trips out of the state have been to Arizona (pre-season and last week)!. They finally travel to an interstate capital to play the Swans next week i believe.

West Coast were 14.16-100 with not too long to go in the last quarter - but it was not to be. (And if Brisbane had conjured another goal.)

For those interested and haven't been there yet there is a page of scoring co-incidences here.

Just one stat for me today.

First meeting between West Coast & Port Adelaide (the new team in the comp) at subi 1997 round 15.
West Coast 12.13.85 def Port 9.13.67 (Margin 18 points)
First meeting between gold coast in the H & A season round 11 at 'pattersons'.
West Coast wins 13.7.85 def Gold Coast 10.7.67 (Margin 18 Points)

Wonder if it will be the same next year?

Nice obs. You mean against GWS? You'd hope the Eagles would do better than 18.

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats [Part 2]

Round 14 2011

1) Melbourne's last goal in their match was the 26,000th conceded by Richmond in 2,084 matches.

.

5) West Coast's performance of 9 wins after 13 matches as the last season's Wooden-Spooner is the third best on record.

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats [Part 2]

Was just looking at Mick Malthouse's coaching stats. Will be interesting to see if he ever coaches again (eg. Bulldogs next year) as he and Sheedy chase Jock McHale's records.

Career games - 653 (2nd)
Career wins - 377 (3rd)
Career losses - 270 (1st)
Finals games - 47 (2nd)
Finals wins - 24 (=2nd)
Finals losses - 21 (2nd)

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats [Part 2]

Can we still potentially grab the best record after this H&A season?

Well the Pies made the 1977 GF after finishing on the bottom in 76' and came oh so close to the premiership, so to beat it I would imagine you'd have to win the premiership? Unless they are talking purely win-loss record.
