Players lead multicultural charge

The only practising Muslim in the league last season, he has been joined in 2012 by St Kilda recruit Ahmed Saad, who will almost certainly make his senior debut this year.

Montagna, a second-generation Australian, is helping set up a social media program among the estimated 550 ethnic media outlets across the country while Naitanui has been employed by the WA Football Commission to help develop a multicultural program. Rodan is the face of the SANFL's partnership with AFL Fiji, which is to set up a scholarship program for Fijians in South Australia.

This is good news. We are so lucky in Australia by not having heavy race, political or religious problems.

Nicky Winmar turned around the aboriginal intollerance. Lets hope these guys continue to keep the lessor instincts of the populace at bay.

Thanks for the posts AT

What am I missing???

So pumped to see what Sippa can do.

He brings so much excitement factor to the game. His debut against Carlton was amazing - when he went up for that grab, the yells of Siposs were amazing. And that goal was a pretty ridiculous moment.

Ahhh, loving the build up. Especially with a very low key off/pre season :D
Pumped to see what Siposs can do as well. Last year he looked like one of those players that doesn't need much of the ball to have an impact on the game, if he ever starts getting plenty of it then look out.

Goal accuracy: 83.33% (5,1 behind Lenny 1,0 , Baker 1,0 and Raph 2, 0 but Sippo has plugged some from a looooong way out ).

Four goal assists last year.
Ten inside 50's.
Ten Marks inside 50.
90.91 disposal efficiency ( second behind Will Johnson who disposed of his 3 balls very nicely ).

He only got 33 disposals last year.
Now if he can get half of that per game my math says we get 4-5 goals a game :).

Loved his line: ''The only thing about getting the dream result is that it isn't really a result,'' he said. ''It's when all the work starts. And it's hard work.''

That speaks volumes. That's what Harvey used to say.

is that you squizz?

Just wondering whether anyone else noticed the left-footed Schneids signing right handed and the right-footed Lenny Hayes going on the left!

pretty common these days. is that you though?

Yes it's true, I met him at a game day function and Squizz is in fact a small slightly rotund woman. :thumbsu:

seriously though, lay off of the stalker image, it's disconcerting.

Nice to see our very own Kildonan get a mention in this article on the "Crikey" website about AFL Fantasy Football!

http://blogs.crikey.com.au/sports/2...-why-afl-fantasy-football-is-so-damn-popular/

Adrian Groves, Community Manager of Australia’s most popular AFL news and forums website BigFooty, recalls when “Kildonan”, one of BigFooty’s many moderators, came to him with the proposal of setting up more forum boards to cater for the growing popularity of fantasy footy.

“Thankfully Kildonan was adamant about the need to get this going and he was clear about what he wanted to do, so I set up the boards and said go for it.”

“We have literally hundreds and hundreds of members in leagues organised through BigFooty, each with 16 players each. One or more of our leagues are constantly in the top 10 best performed leagues of each year.”

In a sign of how far it’s come, BigFooty now has four moderators running their Supercoach and Dreamteam boards.

All hard nuts write left handed!

Pretty sure Schneids plays cricket right handed.... (dont quote me on that though)

Ill ask him at the sponsors function coming up :)

Refreshed Brendon Goddard primed for 10th season

"So, straight to the point?" he asked. "The hard question first up?"

OK, GWS.

To paraphrase: No, I haven't been offered a deal. Yes, I'd like to be a one-club player. Yes, there will be speculation. No, it won't affect me or the team. No, I don't deal in hypotheticals so don't ask about any million-dollar offers.

Goddard is out of contract at the end of the season, and is a free agent, and even he understands the heightened interest in what he, and others, will be doing in 2013 and beyond.

For such a serious issue, Goddard is not fussed. It will play itself out, he said.

Great article. Particularly interesting:

This time, however, a post-season operation on a hip cartilage tear he sustained in the Round 1 game against Geelong meant he had time to reflect.

This is a man who truly bleeds for the club. Give him the captaincy next year, it's time

Well it would help if there were actually papers to sign.

Why hasn't the club approached him to open discussions?

The 'we have 12 months to go' line sounds familiar, they delay again, why?

Nice to hear, but im not throwing a party or anything, interesting he highlighted the fact Ross' contract hanging their heads last year as a factor - or rather not having that surround this year has contributed to a clean slate, but i dare say BJ's sitch is gonna draw as much if not more attention.. Does this mean he's gonna sign soon? :D

Would like to hear what the David Armitage's and Tom Lynch's and Tom Walsh's of the world think of Ross Lyon. Pretty sure they've asked all the accomodated reg senior players who wouldn't have a bone to pick, but i want some truth bombs.

Sorry to harp, but again that's a poor effort from Lyon.

The guy has a cartiledge tear which needs time to heal, yet he keeps playing (poorly by his standards). I remember wondering why he went a bit handball happy - 68 kicks (and average of 8 kicks a game) to 89 handballs from round 2 to 9 - makes sense now.

Not pleasing.

so whose fault is it? the player for saying that he is ok to play. the club or the coach? its not just BJ as being the only player who played injured last year.

but i wonder would it not have been better for him to have surgery after round 1 last year then rest etc

We are talking about BJ, who would probably put his hand up to play with a broken leg. We had this issue with Ball years ago, and more recently with Kosi in 2010.

I'd question whether any of these were in the interests of the team or the player.

Benchy, just on Armo and Lyon. Armitage's brother is a regular poster on Saintsational, DWOODROW. It is quite clear from his comments that Armo despised Lyon with the white hot intensity of a thousand suns. Hated him. Felt that he was extremely hard-done by throughout Lyon's tenure: not picked on his merits; and when he was picked, played out of position in roles that did not utilise his strengths. This was exacerbated by the fact that often other players lacking those strengths were placed in his preferred roles instead.

I get the impression that these are very similar reasons to Ball's for leaving. Both of them are quite similar players, and whereas Ball has excelled at Collingwood where his role is appreciated, he and Armo's role was not appreciated at all by Ross Lyon.

From all reports Watters has a much greater appreciation of Ball's style of game, and thus this will have positive implications for Armitage.

Beeg bleeds for the jumper, and had a great degree of respect and trust of Lyon. If Lyon told him to suck it up and take it for the team, I suspect he did just that.

Lyon is to blame, here.

(sorry, I don't usually get this grumpy about Lyon, but yeah, some of his personnel policies have come to light, and were not at all acceptable)
