Im somewhat bewildered by the amount of people unhappy with it

It wasnt given for the contact. It was given for there mere fact Judd ignored the umpires instructions to clear the situation. Not many sports nowadays you get away with ignoring the ump or refs directions. Infact zero I can think of.

People seem to have missed this fact altogether. IMO it is very important we keep paying these free kicks. It will stop people like Hayden Ballantyne from continuously starting fights and taking time off the game.

The sad thing is... people don't see Eagles games anymore. They just look for badsh*t conspiracy theories.

having just seen it for the first time.. the umpire can be heard saying "there's no need"

that would suggest that it was for the contact..

extremely soft 50.

Oh a West Coast supporter agreeing with a rubbish decision that went west coasts way. I'm sorry, i will apologize on behalf of the football community.

Supporters from every other club except carlton and west coast agreed it was rubbish, commentators agreed it was rubbish, the AFL website even has it uploaded as "controversial". Get your head out of your clacker, Eagles had the rub of the green big time tonight.

It was for the contact, the second time he went after Priddis and contacted him

He was warned, ignored the umps and went at him again

The umpire was saying 'there's no need for that' twice before he gave the 50m. Judd was warned repeatedly by the ump.

The contact was however very soft and I personally think a 50m was harsh.

Every free kick given against Chris Judd is controversial according to the umps and the AFL website. Change Judds name to Scotland and most people agree that hitting a bloke for a third time after the umpire has broken up the wrestle is a 50m offence.

Pathetic decision. Anyone defending it is either stupid, biased or trolling. End of.

Soft, because it is a mental lapse as opposed to anything else. Judd didnt need to do what he did. The umpire gave him two warnings. What else can he realistically do?

How many times does a player get to hit a bloke before he is punished out of curiosity. Soft or not.

It seems people cry when Ballantyne does it and gets away with it but whinge when a umpire does something about it. They cant win really

Soft as butter... probably softer. But was always told never to give the Umps a reason to ping you for 50... just walk away... but was very very very soft.

Milne took possession last week v Suns.

He was spun 360, dropped the ball, and the umpire called play on.

Absolute shocker.

See, it’s not hard.

Soft 50 based on the contact alone. But it wasn't just the contact alone, it was that Judd/Priddis started a scuffle with about 10 blokes in it, went for 10-15 seconds, umpires broke it up, everyone was walking away, then Judd kicked off again.

Soft in isolation, but if anyone on here watched the game, not the conspiracy.com highlights they'd know the context and the correct decision.

There were some bad decisions for Carlton but this was not one of them. It just seems a bit of a damned if you do, damned if you dont approach.

In every single sport in planet earth. If you dont listen to the umpire your penalised for it. Why shouldnt it be the same in the AFL? Thats the only question you need to answer to change my mind

your still trying to back it up, not one person has agreed with you yet who doesn't go for west coast, just understand, it was a pathetic decision. firstly it wasnt an elbow, it was a forearm, and if there is no contact to a forbidden area like the neck or head, then its fair game, its probably no different to what judd receives all game from taggers, they push him continuously. If they are going to pay those little pushes, then it would be a 500 free kick count a game.

Every stoppage there is a bit of physical banter. None of it is needed. So should the umps start paying frees for them all the time as well? To be consistent they'd need to.

Judd's jab had no effect on the play whatsoever.

Still think the captain of your team should know better.

100% correct. It had no effect on nothing. The only reason it was paid was because of the mental aspect of the situation. The mentality of ignoring the umpires instructions is what the free kick was for. The hit or the form of it is of no relevance whatsoever.

In open play that should be fine, however after the umpire has told you to walk away twice and the player doesnt, well then its a 50.

Not a single person has answered my question yet. Thats because they can only look through the situation with one eye. Im just defining the situation as the umpire himself did.
