Voting Key:
BF - Supporters are welcomed to to give their votes out on a 5-4-3-2-1 system after every game for the best players. The raw votes are then calculated and given a weighting to total 100 votes for each round to create consistency of scoring. The maximum amount of votes awarded to the best player can change on a weekly basis but is generally around the 30-35 vote mark.

Port - The coach and assistants discuss the players at the end of each match and award a maximum of 4 votes per player at the end of the match. There is no limit to how many players can score maximum votes

Toots - Votes are awarded on a 3-2-1 basis and is named after former Port board poster Toots Hibbert who sadly passed away late in 2011. This 'best team man' award is for those who promote the true Port Adelaide spirit on the field, just as our friend Toots did off it.

Young Gun - Votes are awarded on a 3-2-1 basis for players born in 1988 or later. The raw votes are then calculated and given a weighting to total 50 votes for each round. Maximum amount of votes awarded to the best player is generally around the 20-25 vote mark.

Please feel free to comment on the players as we go.

Great to see this award named in memory of such a great poster. :thumbsu:

Toots passed away September 14, 2011. Still sadly missed.

For some reason, I thought we were in 2011 when I typed this out. I shall edit.

#19 NICK SALTER

SANFL Stats:
Games: 3
Disposals: 21
Marks: 1
Goals: 3
Best Players: 0

Notes:
2012 was not a good year for Nick. He managed just the 5 matches of football throughout the season and only 2 at senior SANFL level. A persistent foot injury saw Nick miss 15 matches throughout the year. It remains up in the air whether Nick will have a contract for 2013.

#38 BEN NEWTON

248630.jpg

SANFL Reserves Stats:
Games: 13
Disposals: 216
Marks: 41
Goals: 13
Best Players: 4

SANFL Stats:
Games: 1
Disposals: 12
Marks: 1
Goals: 0
Best Players: 0

Notes:
Ben spent the majority of 2012 playing in the SANFL reserves for West Adelaide. He doubled his game tally from last year, improving his fitness and size before missing the last month of the SANFL season. His reserves form ranged from solid to impressive and he was rewarded with his debut SANFL league appearance late in the season. Ben has another season left on his contract and will need to pull out all stops to ensure he stays on the list beyond 2013. Hopefully a new coach and fitness regime can get the best out of the 2010 2nd round draft pick.

#11 MITCH BANNER

SANFL Reserves Stats:

Best Players: 5

SANFL Stats:
Games: 6
Disposals: 114
Marks: 34
Goals: 10
Best Players: 2

Notes:
After a strong finish to the 2011 season, Mitch failed to record an AFL match in 2012, spent half the season on the injury list and played 50% of his games in the SANFL reserves. It was not the season that Port supporters expected from Mitch. Despite very good SANFL reserves form, he stayed at the lower level for longer than expected much to the chagrin of the supporter base. Mitch was delisted at the end of the season after 19 AFL matches, 27 SANFL matches and 20 SANFL reserves matches across two SANFL clubs whilst on Port Adelaide’s list.

#3 STEVEN SALOPEK

Marks: 6
Goals: 1
Best Players: 1

SANFL Stats:
Games: 13
Disposals: 243
Marks: 94
Goals: 7
Best Players: 5

Notes:
After a disappointing 2011, Steven failed to record a match at AFL level in 2012. It was a tumultuous year for Sal. After being dropped to the SANFL reserves by Glenelg early in the season, Steven changed clubs to Port Adelaide mid season. His form was erratic although his best was very good throughout the year. Steven chose to leave the club at the end of 2012, to seek a new home via free agency. Steven played 121 AFL, 43 SANFL and 4 SANFL reserves matches whilst on Port Adelaide's list.

Thanks to this thread, I finally know what Ben Newton looks like.

Was thinking that too- looks like a man already.

lol Tom Swift in the background.

Can't remember him ever in Power Pete's training snaps either, probably cos he's always injured :/

Big year coming up.

Notes:
Jasper’s injury nightmare continued in 2012, playing just the seven matches for the year and only the one at AFL level. Another injury to his troublesome hamstring sidelined him for over 2 months, whilst his AFL season lasted all of 10 minutes before leaving the field with broken ribs and a collapsed lung. If Jasper can get his body right, he will be an important part of the clubs future. A year older, another pre season to improve his core strength will hopefully mean that 2013 will be his year.

Notes:
Despite some good but erratic form at SANFL level for Norwood, Simon failed to make an impact at AFL level in 2012 and ended up being delisted at the end of the season. Simon was promoted for his only AFL game of his season in Round 7 against Fremantle, but couldn’t find the ball and was not given another chance during the year. His SANFL form ranged from very good to poor, finding himself dropped to the SANFL reserves in Round 20 before playing in Norwoods premiership against West Adelaide. Simon played 9 AFL, 22 SANFL and 1 SANFL reserves match whilst on Port Adelaide’s list.
