With Bob Quiney about to debut let's hope he gets out of this group of players who only ever got one shot at the big dance. Feel free to add to it;

Jeff Moss
Bryce McGain
Chris Rogers (ok he was with the WACA's but is a Vic now)
Simon Davis
Wayne Phillips
Clint McKay
Ian Callen

Roy Park back in the twenties at the MCG. Massive roar as he walks out to bat. Massive roar as he faces his first ball. Massive roar as he walks back to the dressing room having been bowled first ball. Apparently, his wife dropped her knitting as the bowler ran in, bent down to pick it up and missed her husband's entire test career.

Moss averaged 60 with the bat in his only Test match & Callen took 6 wickets in his only Test. Both didn't get another look in after the return of the WSC players.

Correct. 1977/78 v India. The First Test without the WSC players. Got selected on the back of a century for Victoria against the Indians, during which he didn't hit one boundary. Unfortunately died way too young.
Only one of two players ever recorded to have done so in the history of first-class cricket.

A third player reached 100 without a boundary but then scored one before being dismissed.

That was the Alan Hurst Mankad/Andrew Hilditch handling the ball test vs Pakistan in Perth.

The last test in Australia to feature 8 ball overs if memory serves me correctly.

He scored 38 and 22 not out. Or 22 and 38 not out. Something like that.

Ken Eastwood, he replaced Bill Lawry.
He was the first one who came to mind for me.

Scored several big hundreds in 70/71 and got picked to replace Lawry for the final test. At the ripe old age of 35 mind you.

Had a crew cut.

Was a miserable failure, scoring 5 and 0. But bowled a handful of overs (he was a chinaman from memory) and got Keith Fletcher out with a full toss.

:)

I played a couple of seasons with Mossy - absolute legend. Only ever batted with one bloke in the Test - Who was it?

I'll take a guess and say either Kim Hughes or AB. I remember we won by 7 wickets, scoring 230-240 odd to win.

We played two tests against Pakistan late in the summer after getting pumped in the Ashes.

Mind you, it was the second year of WSC so were fielding our 2nd or 3rd XI in reality.

I remember the previous test against Pakistan that season was the one where we were cruising towards a win and then managed to crash from 3-305 to all out 310, with Safraz taking 7 for 1 and 9 for 80 something overall.

That 2 test series was full of little incidents, in the first test Javed Miandad ran out Rodney Hogg when he walked out of his crease to do a spot of gardening, so Hoggy belted the stumps over with his bat as a farewell.

I'd say Moss batted with AB.

We have a winner!! - AB was the only batsman he batted with in his sole Test.

Imagine the carry-on if that happened now. I've done it a few times in suburban cricket after getting a dodgy decision.

If I remember rightly the Mankad victim was Sikander Bakht, who was virtually sprinting down the wicket when the Aussie bowlers were still in their delivery stride.

It was quite amazing that a 2 Test series could have so much controversy.

There used to be a trivia question which asked how many unrelated players with the same surname have played Test cricket for Australia since 1970. The answer used to be 8 I think, but that was a number of years ago.

I've seen three of the surnames feature in this thread, Can anyone get them all?

Actually, it must have been a while ago, as I have had a quick check and I reckon it is now 12 sets of unrelated players with the same surname who have played Tests for Australia since 1970.

No cheating.......:)

Using that criteria, you could also then include Ross Duncan, who played one test in 1970/71 while a Qld player but who subsequently finished his career with Victoria.
