Toast Bret Thornton

There are only two games after the Essendon game so I doubt we will see that much Dram.

Quite true... but I dont think that we would see us playing all the seniors either :P

I never said you did and don't care to review the thread. I am generally talking about some of the posts in the thread. You must realise I am discussing with more than one person. I respond to one, get a response to the other on a slightly different tangent, and then respond to them. My motivation for posting in this thread is to play devil's advocate regarding Ratten's selection policy. However, posters keep taking one part of my posts, making assumptions and taking it off course again.
Just while we're clarifying, my statement about 'pot shots' was referring to the habit of taking shots at Ratten on these threads, not you taking a shot at me, just in case that was misinterpreted. Rest of your point taken.

Not this one then

Too good a player not to be on an AFL list. Have always been a fan of Bret's and a part of me is still surprise we let him go without a second thought. Not a brilliant footballer but a very serviceable one who still has a few years left in him and will serve the Giants well.

I remember T-Bird being one of our few shining lights back in 2002 when we had such a dramatic fall. He showed some mongrel as a skinny rookie in the preseason comp. Can't remember who he shaped up to, but I think it was a big gun from another club. 188 games is nothing to sneeze at. He has well and truly earned our respect and to be acknowledged as a Carlton man, welcome at the club anytime. (He will probably bag us out in the media now that I have said that).

So glad he has a chance to get to 200 games.

TBird still has good value and it is good that he has found a new home. .. Surprised other clubs were not interested in a mid-tall utility. .. All the best of luck I say. ..

He's come to my "local" club. Good stuff.

The young guys at the Giants need guys like T-Bird around them.

I hope he does well. I am sure he will.

I wish him all the very best - he was a great servant through a dark and terrible age :thumbsu:

A fresh environment is exactly what he needs to stoke the fire again.

i get the feeling that thornton, russell and even o'hailpin could all prove carlton wrong this, and i hope that they do as well, they could all feel that they where a little shafted, butvsaying that i dont have major issue with these players being delisted, the hard decisions have to be made

Good to see Thornton getting a run at GWS. Obviously Carlton felt there are now better options but I still think he will be a valuable AFL footballer for atleast another two to three years.

Side note, I always found the way he runs odd. Runs with a limp wrist (hold off the Sydney jokes). Carry on.
Yeah me and Dad always called him ballerina boy or something like that. Sorta affectionately of course; actually my dad was most pissed to see him delisted and always saw him as a handy solid, fairly reliable player I guess.

Hope he does well at GWS, he was rather stiff to be cut but I can't blame the club for making the hard decisions in these exciting times to come (hopefully).
