Sheedy's just riding on the big Bud's publicity coat tails, that is what his job with GWS is now publicity, Cameron's calling the shots. And money needs? Gibbo and Buddy's side line business Nena @ Pasedena pulled in $10 mil last year, i don't think either will go short for a quid when they're finished playing.
My poorly considered opinion is if Buddy is leaving he'll be switching codes.

Haddo, I respect the opinions of most on here..:p Especially if they have being around the BF traps longer than me.
Do you think at his age, (27 next year) that he would make the switch to a brand new sport??
That would be a very brave thing to do.

Despite the fact that I don't think it would ever happen - another code (presumably the NRL or ARU) could not offer the same money as GWS. NRL salary caps are lower than the AFLs and top-line players are lucky to be on $700,000 a season. NRL also doesn't offer outside the cap payments and strictly enforce their caps. The ARU could probably offer close to what GWS offers - but I doubt they would. The ARU only ever poach ready-made League players who can seamlessly slot into a team - usually with the intention of having them in the Wallabies team. Buddy, as amazing as he is in the AFL, would never get a spot on a Super 15 side - let alone the Wallabies. AFL players are not built for, nor have a skill-set that would convert to either Rugby code. As intriguing as it would be - you will likely never see a life-long Aussie Rules player poached from the AFL to go to either Rugby code.

I'm not picking up any vibes from the team, coach or individual players that there is a big issue with Buddy not signing his contract. Nor am I picking up any vibes from Buddy that he is not happy with the rest of the team, the coach, the role he is playing etc. The only vibe I am picking up is everyone at Hawthorn is focussed on doing whatever they can to win the premiership this year. I honestly don't think that anyone is worrying about anything beyond 2013 at this point.

In summing up, it's the Constitution, it's Mabo, it's justice, it's law, it's the vibe, and, uh ... No, that's it.

It's the vibe. :D

Buddy is not the kind of player who can carry a side that is playing poorly. He needs good delivery and a good volume of opportunities, because he is not great overhead. He also gives away masses of free kicks (although watch the downturn on that front after he moves to GWS).

Anyway, at $9 million, he will go to GWS next year and kick around 60 goals or less over the next few years, playing in front of empty stands and in big losses. He will become a sorry and irrelevant, although highly paid figure in the AFL.

Everyone seems to be jumping out of the wood work now saying that they think he is going, Tim Watson on Sen this morning was of the opinion that he was gone, funny that I do remember him talking out of his arse earlier in the year about the go home factor meaning he was a 50/50 chance to leave, bit of his hate for Hawthorn coming out if you ask me..

Definitely a lot of schadenfreude going around at the moment, same as the way my non-Hawks family and friends delight in telling me that Bud is going because they assume it will upset me.

I'm not convinced that this is going to be about money for Buddy, if he can get the best deal possible from Hawthorn, 5 years, 1.1 or whatever it is I believe he will stay.

I could be wrong but I'm hearing that Pickering is amazed at how disinterested Buddy is in any sort of contract talk at this point in time.

This doesn't surprise me in a way, I do think Buddy just does want to focus on footy at the moment. The thing is he will have to decide about his contract sooner rather than later because Hawthorn will need to know what he is doing before the end of the season.

So is everyone thinking its GWS only?

Don't forget the go home factor, a bigger issue for mine than money!

I'm more worried about Freo than GWS to be honest. Go home factor, similar money (based on the sums of money they were apparently offering Cloke, team in the premiership window etc. I also fear him going to Freo because then he could really come back to haunt us in the next few years - potentially in a finals game.

You build a team around Buddy Franklin, surely the club can offer him 5 years...

No chance of matching the 1.5 from GWS but I'm sure Jason Dunstall was offered equally ridiculous money from the bears back in the day.

From memory it was around $1m for a 10-yr deal (4-5 years playing with the other 5 in a coaching role)

Soccer's last weeks effort.

I thought I heard King say it. I took it as a cheap dig regarding the incident in the bar the weekend before.
Yeah so did I. I thought to myself substantiate it with some facts, I was hoping he didn't hear something that we hadn't, that's why I thought I would bring it up to see if anybody else heard it.

I did hear them talking up his work rate through the game, but this was a separate comment that wasn't given much attention. Glad somebody else heard it RM, thought I was jumping at shadows.

Buddy is having problems with his thumbs and hands..I noticed weeks ago he simply can't mark a ball because of his hands. Just watch him when attempting to mark it? I am telling you, the majority of the time he can't put his hands and thumbs around the ball!It is so obvious to me..

Why not that's like winning the lotto for six years straight he already has a flag

I agree. If Buddy goes I think the downside could be much higher for him than it will be for the Hawks. He may do much better out of it financially but I can't see him excelling at another club the same way he has at Hawthorn. Buddy has been great for the Hawks but the Hawks have also been very good for Buddy and I think he will suffer more than the club will if he decides to leave.
