Compare those. Near on identical incidents as far as I'm concerned. Off the ball clean punches to a guy not looking.

I know Hall's has more force which comes from his size and boxing training and he also had a bad record but otherwise they are almost identical.

Whilst Merrett got 3 for a sling tackle which is just a clumsy tackle, Ziebell got weeks for a smother gone wrong, even Spencer got 3 for really a clumsy bump with no malice. Obviously the head should be protected and I'm happy for those suspensions but they were all part of footy.

Blatant king hits off the ball aren't. At least Gallen in rugby did it to a guy who was looking right at him. What's the point of a step back think campaign if the AFL don't even follow it themselves.

Simpkin more or less 'jabbed' him, Hall swung a haymaker.

While 2 weeks is probably lucky for Simpkin, he didn't hit Dawes very hard and the injury report from the Demons reflected that. Hall clean knocked out Staker...

But the whole point of step back think is that you never know the damage one punch could do. If this is outside a pub Dawes could've hit his head on the pavement and been the next Dave Hookes.

I would argue that Dawes going down from contact indicates it was medium impact. - Like in boxing there's a punch, a knock down and a KO.

This is just one (of many) where the strict criteria of the MRP don't match up with the crime.

The reliance on the medical report to influence the outcome is stupid.

I might be blinded by bias but despite the lack of force this is still the most dog act I've seen this year in the AFL and should be punished accordingly.

Those two incidents aren't even close to identical, Simpkin jabbed Dawes in the neck who took a dive while Hall punched Staker in the jaw and knocked him out. The Hall hit was a hell of a lot worse and deserved a lengthier suspension.

Lulz.

I should probably elaborate but it so unbelievably clear how they differ.

Please do. Explain to me besides Hall being bigger, stronger and a better boxer which resulted in a KO and not a knockdown.

Give me the AFL where bumps are permitted and the occasional guy gets a concussion over the AFL where cheap hits like this draw lesser penalties than unfortunate accidental bumps.

It would be entirely Dawes' fault because he dived.

you are a fool. Watch the vision and watch the rippling effect under Dawes' jaw/neck where he's been hit and also watch Dawes get up very slowly and tell me that is a dive.

Yes there is a slight delay between contact and him going down but that is due to a startling effect which often happens when you get punched when you aren't even looking! (which is my key freaking arguement - this is an off the play dog act to a guy not even looking or in any way expected to be on the look out for a punch).

Plus I'm pretty sure most boxers can deliver a very hard jab. Simpkin for all I know might be one of the more natural boxers and we all know they do plenty of training. He's also not a small bloke.

Maybe we can get your head, distract you and get Simpkin to jab you in the jaw/neck region and see what happens tough guy.

Yep, because there is no way a person can voluntarily lie on the ground.

You've already mentioned in your OP that Simpkin hit Dawes with less force and now you've also said that Simpkin's punch WAS a jab, different to Hall's hook. They are clearly different.

Spelling. Simpkin more or less 'jobbed' him.
The effectiveness of the punch should play a lesser part in the assessment than the fact that the intention was identical.

Pretty low impact I would have thought. Dawes went down comically.

Deserves a week or two for stupidity, but to even compare a full on punch to the face with a little jab is utterly ridiculous.

No intent to make high contact.

Dawes clearly drops the head (as he was expecting one back in the ribs)

Dawes then continues falling back in order to draw a free kick, unsuccessfully.

Yeah the motion and force is slightly different and of course there is less force but force is such a small part of it. It's still a decent punch behind play to a guy not looking. A cheap shot is a cheap shot.

Simpkin only is getting 2 due to his record. So it's a 1 week for a blatant weak act that completely undermines any effort the AFL put in the week before with step back think.

Have a listen to yourself. You are suggesting he didn't mean to punch him in the head. Really???

It's a punch. He hasn't come running in for a bump or swung an elbow - it's his hand that's connected to his arm then shoulder then brain if he has one. If Dawes bent down to protect his ribs then Simpkin should've pulled the punch or how about this lets stop this niggling crap that defenders and taggers do. Or if Simpkin gets just one week for this lets have a week where forward and ball players can punch back.

If you believe Simpkin missed as was going for the shoulder maybe we should suspend McEvoy for headbutting Spencer's hip. Or anyone else who gets a high bump for headbutting hips or shoulders as well. Crazy.

Funniest argument ever. :rainbow:

You get the same rippling effect when hit in the face with a water balloon.
