Can't believe that idiot Jon Ralph on sen saying nothing happened under Greg Westaway (right), l would much rather someone understated and solid than a President running around shooting his mouth off about every topic that comes up.
l just hope Peter Summers is as solid and stable as the last 6 years.

''Greg has been a terrific president … taking on the role during a difficult period for the club.
''I know Greg would have loved to have seen the Saints achieve their second flag under his leadership, but I am sure that the foundations he and the directors have laid will play a large part in that goal ultimately being achieved.''
Westaway presided over the club's move to its new headquarters at Seaford and during the grand final years of 2009 and 2010.
Westaway was also at the helm during one of the club's more controversial eras, involving the so-called St Kilda schoolgirl scandal and the shock departure of coach Ross Lyon at the end of 2011.

that is the key for us over the next 2/3 years

Looking at the job that Greg Westaway did, I don't think we can say he did a great job. Our club has only 32,000 members - which is very embarrassing. We have to sell home games to New Zealand to make money, we rely on hand outs from the AFL, our club probably has the second worst list in the league. I'm not having a pot shot at Westaway - he did do a good job, but as a club we are not in a real good position. Let's be honest.

This guy has one endearing quality for me. Just look at him:

That just says "boring" - and I like that. Westaway did what he did, spoke when he had to, but generally stayed out of the way, and left the media to the people who should be doing it: players and the coach.

His business and management acumen is what we need from our president, not some rockstar hero, alienating the AFL and distracting from the thing the members really want to hear about: us getting better at playing footy on the field.

Very uneducated opinion IMO.

The financial problems are mainly due to our deal with docklands.

Can't blame him for membership numbers... blame our fickle supporters.

Can't blame him for our list either... not his job.

Apart from having to rebuild, why are we in such a poor state as you say?

Greg was elected along with Burke, Thommo and a few others on a promise of injecting more funds into the footy department, which he did. Just as we can blame him for any perceived failures, you must also credit him for bringing us close to 2 flags. Can't have it both ways.

Not sure about others, but I am thrilled that we have had a Prez who doesn't get involved with the footy dept for a change.

that was their one aim as well. the football result, trying to win a flag. everything else came second. we knew this when they were elected.

now the game has changed. we understand that we are in a rebuild mode both financially and on the football field. we need stability and growth into the future

Agree with this. Also does not take into account the state of the club when this administration first came in. Top-4 footy department salaries, bottom-4 in actual footy department spend and revenue generation, primitive training facilities, and the list goes on. On-field performances masked the off-field reality that the club were far behind the pack in most aspects. The club now has proper footy department administration (including a head of football), a player academy, an expanded recruiting team, cutting-edge culture and welfare initiatives, and responsible governance - demonstrated by the fact that Westaway actually had a succession plan.

Westaway...
Money troubles seemed to always stay
But now it looks as though they've gone away
And that's because, of Westaway.

But suddenly, we're not half the club that we have been,
Seems we're tanking like a submarine,
Is that because, of Westaway?

Why we had to go, we don't know,
He wouldn't say,
Scott said, "5 years of bad trades"
How I long, for Yesterday!

Westaway,
Footy seemed like such an easy game to play,
Still it's time for you to hide away,
But I believed, in Westaway.
Ooh, ooh ooohh, hmm, hmm, hm, hmmmmm.

Pure fckn GOLD! :D

oh dear, this could get ugly...

Hey Pelch, don't make us sad.
Pick up Tom Boyd and make us better.
Remember a few gun mids as well.
And we will begin to climb the ladder... ladder ladder ladder...

Love love me Roo
You know I love you...

Sorry. Give myself an uppercut.

Once again i could be hearing things, but a Saint supporter calling 3AW suggested AV Jennings are $18m in debt..

$90m. What was their point?
