Very interesting following you posts. First you make a point of posting Eddie Betts stats in a not so subtle attempt to bag him. Now your making sure no one is interested in Thomas.

So I guess your just getting everybody used to the fact that the only FA we will be seeing is the sweet FA our club prides itself on.

It's a good point regarding Thomas, and it's the media who are mentioning it. His value is at an all time low now, and probably not at the best time for him. Do you think before posting?

IMO, I don't agree.

Hendo's last two months have been very good but over their career Robinson has been the better player. I'd rather hold Hendo based on current form as he provides something we're servilely lacking in the run and carry across half back (really don't want to see Reilly in that role again). That said, Robinson is very underrated on this board and I wonder just how much some people have actually seen of him considering some have suggested he's a full time tagger which s so far from the truth.

His 2011 season was his first strong one where he started to get more time in the midfield and had a few 30+ disposal games which also included two back to back best on ground performances and he finished with 11 brownlow votes for the season.

His 2012 season started where he left off in 2011 playing a similar position. He only polled 6 brownlow votes this year and really struggled towards the end of the year playing with multiple injuries and basically one hand with a broken hand/thumb (forget what it was).

Had an absolute shocker this year under Malthouse, although the same can be said for many Carlton players and I'm sure he'll bounce back from it, whether it be on Carlton's list or another clubs.

He's not something we need as such (well I'd love to see a good chunk of our players hit the contest as hard as he does) as he isn't the 'icing on the cake' we're after but he's a lot better then how a lot of the posters in this thread suggest.

Its not bagging Eddie Betts, its being realistic. There is no point paying squillions of dollars on a guy just because he is a name and what he has done in previous years bar this one. I understand the premise of free agency and that a club has to make an appealing offer to get them to transfer over. the $450K mark contract offer someone on this thread put up in a previous post is probably the maximum I would go. Its a good figure and well below our football clubs highest paid. Its exactly what I would have thoughts a fair and reasonable price.

If you read my post on Dale Thomas, he has been injured all year, walked off the ground with an injury just this past weekend. Before the AFC go round splashing cash like no tomorrow, wouldn't you as a paying member like to see them do their due diligence and make sure he can actually get on the park next season?

Look don't get angry at us, go send angry emails to the Adelaide Football Club. The AFC have virtually nothing to trade, no draft picks to trade and the FA list outside of Buddy and Daisy is pretty mediocre. We are not going to land a big name this season unless for some extremely clever trading is done crossed with a minor miracle.

So blame Trigg like everyone else and stop accusing some of us being club reps just because some of us argue not to pay the big dollars for whats on the FA list. Buddy the exception of course.

Well that's a given top 10 picks siggins and Atkins are evidence of this.

Unfortunately that's the purpose of the punishment. Its to make improving the list tremendously hard. Really for what he have to trade we aren't really going to make improvements. If we trade McKernan we maybe able to snare a 2nd round pick. We would most likely only use it in the draft. However the AFC may stick with smack for another season purely on the basis that our Ruck stocks are shocking. The only way I see us making improvements to the list is to trade aggressively and that's trading some of our young talent and I cant see it happening at all. Maybe a left of centre idea is to approach GWS with Reilly and Porplyzia and see if we can snare any excess young talent to help compensate for missing the draft but we start killing any depth we had off pretty quick.

And if drugs are bad doesn't want to be part of Adelaide Oval that's his problem.

Just on Daisy and Eddie, couldn't it be argued that the fact that their stocks are at an all time low more reason to get them, rather than less? Getting a free agent who is at the peak of their form would be a very expensive exercise...

For me, the question is: are their current issues symptomatic of the fact that their career is starting to go downhill, or is it just a bad year? After all, we're not getting these guys for what they're giving to their current team right now, we're getting them for what they will give us next year and beyond.

As far as Dale Thomas goes (not that I think we would be a realistic chance of getting him anyway), his ankle issues seem worryingly chronic. I would be reluctant to invest too much in getting him.

On the other hand, Eddie Betts has had a stop-start year, missing 6 of the first 10 games under a new coach because of injury and suspension. The injury was an impact injury - broken jaw - prior to which he had not missed a game from 2010-2012 and only missed 1 in 2009. So he is durable, there are no question marks over his body. His numbers are alarmingly down. At 26, his drop in form is more likely to be explicable by a new coach and gameplan that doesn't suit him than by an ageing body. I don't see any reason to think that the fact he has had a bad year means that he is finished as a top level player. And he IS a top level player. He kicked 140 goals from 2010-2012, which is elite for a small forward.

All this is not to mention the fact that the incumbent is Petrenko...

Pretty sure Bulldogs wanted to keep Harbrow & Ward. Losing Sam Reid wasn't harmful for them. You claim Lake as a good in, so he must be an important out. Hill hasn't been terrible at WCE.

I limited it to 2 years, because you did. My big numbers were for 4 years.

Saints have lost Goose, Ball, Goddard (and Lynch). That's about on par.
Lions lost their B&F winner (Risch), their goalscorer (Bradshaw), Clark, and a former Brownlow medallist (Power).

If losing Henderson for Fevola is irrelevant, can we say losing Tippett for Jenkins is the same? JJ & Fev probably done as much at their new clubs.

Why are you limiting losing players to only the last two years and only stars? The key is securing quality first choice players.

Maybe because you said "In the last 5 years besides fringe players we've recruited Jacobs.". My point is that we've taken 1 star, out of how many that moved? 6? 7? Meaning we've recruited more stars in that timeframe than a number of clubs. Carlton haven't taken any stars. Essendon haven't. Fremantle haven't. Richmond haven't.

Agree here. Everyone knows how Mick likes to structure his teams, and a mosquito fleet isnt it. This is why I think he'd be interested in McKernan, who he would want to be up front with Henderson and allow Waite to go back. McKernan can also ruck, and Mick would be interested in that aspect of his game too. He'll run one of Garlett/Yarran/Betts up there, but he'll pick the one with the most potential to run through the midfield as well - probably Garlett. He clearly doesn't rate Yarran, and Betts has little midfield potential.

Betts is a must for our team. Callinan was good on the weekend but is getting on and lacks pace. We have no other pacy natural small forwards who have a little magic. If not Betts, then perhaps Stokes.

Im still not 100% sure Cooney is out of the frame, but we should throw the kitchen sink at him. I haven't seen Adam move that cleanly with genuine zip for 4 years. If there is any sniff of getting him, I say we should be making an offer that he can't refuse.

In my opinion, we aren't that far off the pace. It's been a hell of a year, but we have a good group of youngsters and some talent coming back in 2014. The key is that Sando has to become more focussed on what he wants to achieve and more ruthless at selection. Playing Jaensch last week was inexplicable and just proves to me that he is in a quandary with regards to his list at the moment. I was a fan of getting Sando but I have been underwhelmed by him so far and I would be disappointed if we gave him an extension before mid 2014. He's not in demand so there's no need to do so. He can point to injuries and Tippo this year and thats fine, but if we get more of the same next year at selection and on game day, I dont think he's the man for the job.

I think we have a very good core group of youngsters, stretching it to even include Sloane, Tex and Danger. Adding a team orientated senior FA is a must. Senior on field leadership, Truck aside, has been lacking. Can Betts, Stokes and Cooney provide that ? Or are we at a point where Danger and Rory are the senior leadership. Probably yes but I think its an importanttthing to look at when recruiting FA targets.

Noble, Ogilvie and Co really have to earn their keep.

Two ways to look at this will we be any chance of playing finals and premiership threat in the next 2-3 years? if yes all good if no then we need to off load a couple of our untouchables and start rebuilding because when we are into contention again these guys will be at the end of their careers.

Are people seriously suggesting we go into rebuild? FFS our core group Danger, Tex, Sloaney are all 23. This is our group. We have to augment it with some decent senior players because its our seniors who are garbage.

We have so much talent in this group. What we need to do as a priority is weild the axe in the coaching dept. Retaining midfielder Bickley as a forward coach just to make us seem like a nice club looking after a favourite son is a joke. Do we exist to win flags or do we exist to keep up appearances??!

Get the coaching right ASAP and get a few decent seniors in to augment the group of youngsters we have. Stop the bullshit selection and pump games into our kids because this group is one of the best young groups around its just being terribly badly coached. If we stick with Clarke, Campo and Bickley and if Sanderson doesn't pull his finger out we will squander the talent we have.

Talk of a rebuild is moronic. We have no currency to even turn the key on a rebuild. Get the ******* coaching sorted.
