I actually reckon Polec is like Higgins from the dogs, seems to be about as durable as well.

Polec sounds a little bit like Aaron Fiora Mk II
more like didak
Only 20 still plenty of improvement in him. Id certainly try to get himIt's amazing that even today, with hundreds of thousands of dollars spent by each club on scouting young players, there are still draft pick busts. It will always been an inexact science as no-one really knows how a player will develop from a skinny, green kid.

How much work has been put into him from Adelaide? Whats the likely hood he is coming to us? He would no doubt already know where he is going.Only 20 still plenty of improvement in him. Id certainly try to get him
Yes.. but Tambling showed a hell of a lot more in his 100-odd games than Polec has in any of his games to date.Would you agree that there's a better chance with a top 5 pick coming right after only play 20 games due to injury or whatever than there is with a top 5 whose played 150 games and showed nothing like Tambling?
From memory (and I could be wrong here), Thompson had one major injury which kept him out for a while. Polec has had repeated soft tissue injuries. One is/was high risk, the other is/was not.Scott Thompson was in the same situation. Injury riddled first few years, high draft pick. Tom Lynch we gave up a second rounder for after he struggled to make the Saints side. Both great trades. Polec would be a similar move I would give up a second rounder he has talent to burn. Could payoff bigtime.
If anything, our situation this year makes him even less of a "must get" player. Yes, he has the potential to be handy - but not at any price. We don't have any 1st or 2nd round picks, so it would be a tragic waste if we were to trade our way into these rounds only to piss that pick up against a wall by trading it for Polec. His value right now is a 3rd or 4th round selection. If that's the price we pay, then fair enough, but he's not worth paying "overs" for.I agree Stabby. Normally he wouldn't be a must get but with our sanctions this year I think he almost does become a "must get". To add a player of his potential would help considerably in our situation. He is still only 20. We have been able to pick up other former first rounders recently and have seen obvious improvement in their games. LJ and Lynch have been good trades for us. I reckon Polec could be too.

I was going to suggest Sam Shaw. Has potential, but unlikely to ever demonstrate it due to a body that keeps breaking down.I actually reckon Polec is like Higgins from the dogs, seems to be about as durable as well.
Have you read the thread? How bout Dids ? nice upgrade from Callinan and gives us another lefty ( Grigg ) who can pinpoint a target inside 50 and kick a goal . Something we have lacked for quite some time .
Where is this news about Shaun Edwards coming from?
And I'd do DMack for Polec no problem. We know what DMack offers, 16 possessions a game. If he gets to 30 and is still on our list producing the same average footy we are going nowhere as a club
In what way is 2013 Didak an upgrade on 2013 Callinan? I'd agree if you were talking about 2010 Didak, but 2013 Didak is a washed up has-been, who no longer justifies a place on any AFL list. How bout Dids ? nice upgrade from Callinan and gives us another lefty ( Grigg ) who can pinpoint a target inside 50 and kick a goal . Discussed this option last night with a mate, and we came to the conclusion that's what Power will probably do. Gets him back to the Magpies easily, and is a ready made forward should Neade break down. Can see him captaining the Maggies next year.
Could he potentially take Smith's spot in the backline, allowing Smith to move up to the wing? They're similar sizes, but other than that I don't know anything about Edwards. Is he worth getting?Edwards would be a good get. They are unlikely to use their third rounder so I'd be gunning for that also.
Interesting times ahead.
Absolute yes as a captain/on field leader for the reserves they've just signed up to, imagine what he could teach.
Absolute no from a cultural perspective for those young kids, imagine what he could teach.
Will be interesting to see how it falls.

Polec was out with an ankle injury for most of this year and had surgery on it towards the end of the year IIRC. His previous injuries include injuring a medial ligament twice in 2011. In 2012 he battled a miscellaneous foot injury and then an adductor strain. From memory (and I could be wrong here), Thompson had one major injury which kept him out for a while. He did have a quad strain before he was drafted though so I guess that coupled with his adductor counts as 'repeated' soft tissue injuries.
There's no doubt that he has had 'repeated injuries' though, however that is more likely to be bad luck as opposed to any underlying chronic condition.
