What's the view here on this guy, heard he was a media "leaker"

We are still thanking home for the Fabian De Luca parting gift.

Good luck with the re-build!

Warning do not draft anyone named "Fabian" it is not an AFL footy name.

Not all of the Hawks supporters think everthing Pelchen did was good, but at least he has a view to the future and I wish StKilda had him 2 years earlier.

In Pechen we trust

Yes I'd love a kool aid thanks

All clubs leak. It's been proven to be a well-used tool of government to test opinion before working out the final strategy. No issue there.

Raspberry flavour for me.

Ross Lyon refused to accept Luke Ball's contract extension terms. Ball left. Lyon is the devil.

Chris Pelchen refused to accept Brendon Goddard's contract extension terms (and appears to not accept Nick Dal Santo's contract extension terms). Goddard left (and Dal Santo may leave). Pelchen is a god.

(I know that we got a pick for Goddard through the free agent system which did not exist when Ball left - but would probably have been used by Collingwood to avoid the risk they took with the draft - but this is about the treatment of star players)

Lyon (as manager and coach) took us to a Grand Final in his second (and third) year. He is evil.

Pelchen (with Watters as coach) took us to 16th in his second year. He is great.

History will tell whether Pelchen / Watters will be able to turn things around (Lyon certainly has done well over at Freo so far) or whether they are responsible for another lengthy period on the other side of the eight (and possibly even a few more wooden spoons).

I for one am not convinced. Playing youngsters alone is not really a sign of success for me, especially when the possibly two best (in terms of VFL performances and probably in terms of AFL performances acknowledging they played only a few games each) in Curren and Ledger were ignored for most of the year.

I've made it clear I'm not sold on him yet.

Over zealous on the recruiting of small forwards, don't like how he handled BJ, recruitment of another specialist ruck (unless he plans to trade Ben) seems strange to me, Tom Lee while showing a bit...needs to be great, not liking how dal is being played out in the media, for all the talk, I'm convinced he's shopping him around.

He won't get everything right but I think it's fair to say he knows what he's doing. I like the type of players we're drafting but obviously the big test will come in the next couple of drafts. Need to nail these early picks.

I think it's pretty unfair to compare the two. Ross Lyon inherited a list full of high end talent in their prime, Pelch and SW inherited a list that was deflated, old and in need of rejuvination because of RL's inabilitiy to development young talent.
Pelch and SW are working with the tools they have, and it's fair to say that RL has been blessed through-out his coaching period with good-great lists.
The state of our list is still a huge concern but at least we know we aren't going to sit back and hope that it improves naturally. The Pelican will force improvement.
Time will tell/

I'm a believer in Chris Pelchen due to the reported words between himself & the late Allan Jeans, only weeks before Yabby passed away....

"Please look after my Saints... "

That's enough for me to believe that Chris is on a mission, and the mission is a flag

The Saint's mosquito fleet is on fire!!!!

People confuse what Pelchen's role is.... Usually using who 'he' has drafted to point out his failures.

During his time at Hawthorn, Gary Buckenara was head recruiter, just as Trout Elshaug is the recruiting honcho at St Kilda. At Port he was involved with building the list from the ground up & we know what they culminated in.

Anyone who heard his presentation at the members night is pretty buoyant about the club's direction.

Just on that, what is Pelchan's role?
I'm assuming he negotiates contracts and the like. Does he facilitate trades? Does he have any say in drafting, like the types of players we should be targeting etc.?

He's the Head of Football.

I would suggest this encompasses overseeing all coaching staff, medical, fitness & recruiting. He & Bains look after the list management side of things- strategic direction, contracting, etc. Elshaug is head recruiter & has another 2 full timers & 2 part timers assisting him.

I would assume that Pelchen would be consulting with Scott as to what sort of player SW thinks he needs to implement his game plan & then asking Trout for an idea of players that fit into the particular profile (not just including football talent). Mind you, what sort of player SW wants needs to fit in with the strategic list management plan that Pelchen & Bains have set out.

My understanding is that in terms of trading, Pelchen is the key man.

In terms of the draft, Trout & his team get final say. They are the ones who watch the kids week in week out, spending hundreds of hours interviewing them & watching tape.

As I said, the presentation that he gave provided me with a feeling absolute confidence that the right man is steering the ship. If only we'd had him 12-13 years ago, I reckon we'd have multiple silver ware in the cabinet.

Interesting Robbo saying Saints have sacked Hutchinson and Pelchan outright boss now.

I don't know how to bring the tweet across but it says:

News: Greg Hutchison no longer football manager at St Kilda. His position _ Gen manager of football ops _ redundant. Pelchen outright boss.

Hutchison packed his office today...

Sam Gilbert, David Armitage, CJ, Geary, McEvoy, Steven, Stanley, Simpkin, Ledger Siposs. Curren.

Half a decade of drafting.
11 players 2 per year.
2 first rounders, only *&^% 2. We cant even get 50% hit rate on the first round.
4 Rookies. Hey lets just draft rookies for our first round picks , we'll do better.
IF Pelchen has to be ruthless (and he does ) its not his fault. Has anyone drafted worse over this period of time?
I'm pretty happy at how Pelchen has found players like Lee, Hickey, Milera, and Saad from nowhere. ( not Pelchen's fault re Saad ). Yeah Milera's not the greatest but shit we have no-one from those earlier years coming through. Lee may not be Trav Cloke , but hell we have no-one coming through.
