If he didnt leave when Knights was threatening to ruin his career by making him a defender, i doubt he leaves now.
Would be one of our top four mids (even if we got NDS). Break out year in 2013 and will justifiably be rewarded with a bigger role one would think. Can see him being the Goddard replacement/backup.

To be fair, Hird did that in 2011 too.

And if he overtakes three of Watson, Stanton, Goddard, Heppell, Zaharakis and NDS, we'll win the flag, pure and simple.

Hell, even if he got to a similar output to 2 of them we'd go close

The same half back flanker that he played for WA and 80% of his WAFL colts footy. Was drafted as a running half back who may make a midfielder in the future so i am not sure how Knights was ruining his career. At that stage he was not fit enough or big enough to step up to midfield.

The fact that guys like Heppel and even Howlett have started ahead of Myers at times says to me he isn't that 'lock' many think he is.

Thoughts?

Can he be used in a deal to get Dal ?
For mine he is not an absolute lock and i said that earlier in the year much to the dismay and anger of some here :p.
Reasonably good player who finally played some games in a row but his pace is the same or slower than a few of our midfielders, is not going to get a role as the clearance bloke with Watson around which is his best strength as a midfielder. Skills are ok not great. Finds a lot of trouble trying to get on the left leg all the time. No doubt he has improved and is good enough to stay around but one of those blokes who you may get a good deal for from someone which you would look at. Not sure about his tank either but in saying that has had a shit load of injury issues before this season.
Would not give him away but would trade him for the right deal.

This has been his first injury free season, he's still working out where he belongs in the team. Cut the boy some slack. His size, ability to standup in a tackle and of course his left boot are something to get excited about.

Myers leaving now would be a huge blow, and I don't see it happening anyway. No, he's not going to win the Crichton; but he PLAYED and was consistent too - I can't remember him having a single stinker. I think he's one of those players who could be very important without having to be a star - certainly I think his ability to block and clear the ball in the middle is a great help to Watson, Heppell, et al. Also I don't believe he's anywhere as left-foot dependant as some think - he's actually quite tidy off his right.

Another full preseason, and another relatively injury-free year, and he could be huge next season. But even if he only improves a little on this year, he'll still be very important IMO.

Funny how all of his career until now no-one has wanted to know about Myers. Now that he's improved, all of a sudden clubs believe they are a better fit than Essendon.

That's the nature of the beast though, that's how the whole system works unfortunately

Myers is on the verge of some genuinely high quality football. I get sucked into the debate about whether there is merit using him as part of deal for Dal Santo but I'm not concerned in the slightest that he will be going anywhere.

He has too many qualities as a player and individual for him to be considered expendable for all but the most outrageous of prizes (and this one of those times when I think there is merit in saying "especially at the end of the season we've just had").

Big bodied inside mids with the power to work through stoppages, even if it isn't that quick, and the skill to be as damaging with ball in hand as Myers is are invaluable. Now that he's got his body right he can actually work on the craft and will be much better for it (said it before but I'd love for him to spend some time with Greg Williams like Jobe did). His work without the ball, such tackles, blocks and the like, and on-field leadership are also significant parts of his game that don't get much attention.

You still feel this way? There's lots of talk today that he is in the box seat to join the Saints...

Well I'd not factored in potential godfather offer (which I suppose 2 would be). I'm pretty confident that he is the sort of person as well as the sort of footballer we want. Am waiting nervously though as I always do when an Essendon player I like is mentioned.

Now that I think about it, I think that there has been some mischievous reporting. Myers seems level headed enough to know that limitations on him this year were for his own good (given his previous struggles to get on the park). He seemed to be as emotionally involved in the defence of the club this year as anyone was. Unless something changed dramatically post capitulation I can't see why he would want out. Colyer willl clearly be looking for opportunities.

i'll be far more jacked at him than Crameri if he goes. We have nursed this kid through his injuries and developed him into a good mid. 100% required player. If he leaves i will boo and spit water at him any time he touches the ball for the rest of his career

I love Myers, if he leaves, I will be very upset.
On the verge of having a very good season.
