Haha, very true! I might go to a track a few times a year and am usually successful. I haven't backed a Cup winner for a long time though.

Australian's do generally have a good knowledge of racing. Most people at least understand track conditions, odds, barriers, handicapping etc. That's probably due to growing up watching the Melbourne Cup. I've been to tracks at other places of the world and so many people have no clue whatsoever.
Hey Catfish have you been to the track in Vancouver? When I was over there last year we stayed close by the track.

The gates were open and I got to have a a good look around and it was in pretty average state for a big city track.

Summer is overrated.
Last night was one of the first 30 degree (roughly) nights in a while and I couldn't sleep. So many crappy sleeps on hot summer nights.
It's too hot to do anything except go to the (overcrowded) beach where you get sunburnt and sand over all your stuff, and I think the only reason people rate it so highly is because of Christmas holidays.
The sports such as Cricket, Soccer, Tennis ect are ok, but nothing compared to AFL in the winter.

Yeah, That was about the last time I went too. They were promoting race days a bit this summer and I think they fixed it up a little. One of the local jockeys won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness last year so they tried to take advantage of local interest. I used to work at the track in Edmonton. That wasn't too bad. Racing isn't very big in Canada though so the tracks don't really compare well to a lot of them in Australia.

.
Yeah, that why I stated it. As far as I know, horse racing fans like yourself, with that problem are common.

The last time I won on the Melbourne Cup was on Ethereal. I was aware that she was one of the favourites. But even if she was a jenny, I still would picked her because her trainer was an assistant trainer for Empire Rose. For some reason, as a kid, I had an affection for Empire Rose. Despite no other passion for horse racing.

Agree with this.

The Today Show is quality programming.

Nah. Love my dishwasher. We've had a few parties in recent weeks and the clean up would have taken forever without it.
They are good for stuff like that or families with a few kids, I just find people that act like they are a must have funny when it's just say 2 people living together in a house.

There are 2 people living in my house. It's a must have

I agree with you, I'd also add that it's completely barbaric that they're whipping horses, some of them who are too young to race - purely for entertainment.
Even bullfighting in Spain has gotten less popular because of animal abuse lately, hopefully horse racing follows suit soon, it's nothing short of a disgrace.

This is exactly why people shouldn't comment on things that they have no idea about. Seriously you could do yourself a favour to gain some understanding on thoroughbreds and horse racing.

To me going out is becoming over rated. Think Im turning old and grumpy. I still like hitting the pub or even the cas with my mates every now and then, but things like public and community events (eg: festival of Perth), concerts, festivals, sporting events, meals, bbq's where I have to make small talk to people I dont know - Im losing interest in doing this s*it anymore.

Forever standing in long lines, finding carparks, finding somewhere to sit, public transport, over priced tickets, over priced and underwhelming meals, s*it customer service, uncomfortable seats, heat/cold, dealing with self-absorbed hipsters...I just CBF anymore.

The comfort of my own house seems to be all I need. Sporting events on the comfy couch in front of the big tv where you can see replays and close up action, and have good, cheap food and piss available at a whim.

Id even rather play sport that go out - take the weekend for example, I was more than happy to be playing tennis in 35 degrees doing something healthy as opposed to being at a racetrack in a shirt and pants, standing in lines, bored out of my brain trying to make small talk, then trying to find a cab home. How is this fun? Sure, if you're young and chasing slit then yes. But when youre in a happy relationship the novelty feels like its wearing off. Id rather save my $$$.

I actually, genuinely, honestly think that Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus is a catchy song and have listened to it maybe 20 times in the last week.
I like it too. Not sure about the music video though

I don't know if this is unpopular but from what people close to me think, it seems to be somewhat unpopular.

A Dingo did not kill Azaria Chamberlain.

Yeah, summer is definitely the worst season, at least in temperate Australia.

I still love Christmas because I'm a big kid, but that's the only bright spot in an otherwise boring and uncomfortably hot season.

If Beyonce or Lady Gaga had done the same clip people would be calling it artistic genius. Haters gonna hate on Miley.

I disagree. Don't get me wrong, I think she is absolutely disgusting, but she and her management are geniuses if their goal is to create controversy and exposure.

Agree with this.

Have said to a few people that if the same song was released by Adele or Amy Winehouse then we would be hearing all about it being a 'song of a generation' yadda yadda yadda.

As for my unpopular opinion - I don't think we should make pot/weed legal unless we are willing to do the same for cocaine, meth, E and every other drug too. It's one in, all in.

Note: I don't take any drugs outside of hayfever tablets and panadol. barely touch alcohol and I don't smoke.

If the same song was released by Adele or Amy Winehouse, it probably would be considered a better song because they are better singers....

So you're in favour of bringing back prohibition then?

Not at all.

Id be more than happy to see weed be made legal. I think it's less harmful than booze. But I think that if we make weed legal then we, as a society, leave ourselves open to the same debate about cocaine and other drugs.

I admit that they are much more harmful, but as a non user Im not going to try and debate the merits of one substance over another from a legal, social or safety stand point. I just think that if we open the door on one substance then every one who has a 'vice' has a case to have their product of choice made legal as well.

Not saying it's right or wrong, just that we are in this situation because people of past generations opted to pick and choose what people could have. We should either maintain the status quo, or find a way to rise above it, rather than repeating the same mistakes.

Simple reasoning. Except if the song was released by Amy Whinehouse it would be a staggering effort, and if the film clip had Adele... Well i wouldn't be too interested in it.
