Feeling like we're going to be worried about Menzel leaving for the entirety of his career.

Bite the bullet and get the brother over. We've got that thing that's meant to help with ACL prevention don't we?
I don't know about prevention, but we must have something that cures ACL injuries. Ciaran Byrne recovered from his ACL injury inside a week.

He's a better forward option than our current ruckmen, not sure he could work alongside Levi though.

Interesting. Along similar lines, I asked the other day if we had any interest in Vardy...

WB have several overgrown KPP. None have shown much aptitude to take over from Minson, though perhaps 2015 will be an Ayce year.

4th rounder, perhaps. Campbell is a year and a half younger than Levi.

If you were to think of a replacement for Malthouse -- and I'm thinking of a "franchise" coach, someone fairly young who will create and mold this team for a decade, including someone who comes from the open/attacking school of football -- then who would you suggest? What assistants around the league are worth looking at?

Robert Harvey would be my pick

You bring up an interesting point, I'm not really sure what the "point" of Malthouse is now. It's pretty clear we won't be challenging for at least 3 or so years. Unless he plans on coaching well into his 60's then he won't be able to see a rebuild through to the end.

I don't see why he can't coach into his 60s. Sir Alex did with United and was fine.

I am a Malthouse fan, but he's starting to show he's fading. He's not going to be viable for more than a bandaid tenure of 2 or 3 years. With the help of Free Agency he may patch up the list to give the fans/club a more competitive season or even a finals berth. But I would prefer to see Carlton identify a young assistant coach, from an attacking school of football, to mold a dynasty.

One thing about coaches like Bomber Thompson (why i mentioned him), or Alistair Clarkson, they always seem on top of the situation, they're not dumbfounded and trying to explain/excuse/justify the why/how/when/what of things going wrong. Malthouse in all his years should know why, but all he seems to espouse this year is a sense of being dumbfounded, and having to continue to work to identify problems and why theyre happening and how to fix them.

Mick's plan looked spot on in the first half. It's the player that stuffed it up in the second.
