Its Time For Trigg To Resign.

It was telling that we named the players race after an administrator. Just shows how the club's valuation of what is important is out of whack and explains how they could possibly value retaining Trigg ahead of retaining draft picks.

As good as Hammond was, he should have refused the honour too. Sure, the off-field personnel is vital. But any good administrator understands that they exist in the background. They know they are not the star of the show, and nor do they want to be. They understand that the on-field performance is the only thing that matters. They are not there to be praised or recognised externally. Our first captain? Our first premiership captain? Our first Brownlow Medallist?
Funny you brought that up.. I watched Sydney run out of their race last night, The Paul Kelly race, and thought the same thing..
At least it's in line with our other values and what we place most importance on..

Deanus, I just want to state this. I applaud your courage to make this banner. I have absolutely no objections to anyone showing the courage of their convictions (whether I agree with it or not). Has been one of my bug bears in all this for a very long time. (So many complaining in here, so few doing anything about it). My only motivation in responding to the outcome of your choice is - what did you expect? Not because the 'evil afc won't allow you to do it' but because of the common expectations of ground management in sporting arenas. There was nothing stopping you from carrying your banner down the Main Street on your way to the oval. It's just common sense that they won't allow it IN the ground. In the US recently I went to a basketball game where they won't allow bags. Part of the reason I was told by security staff, is to stop people bringing in banners. I think you'd find that you wouldn't be allowed that banner at the mcg, ethihad or the gabba either for what it's worth.

Thank you Jenny. I've calmed down enough that I can accept I was probably dreaming to think they'd let me hang it but I did research the SMA to make sure what I was doing was technically allowed. It's unbelievably frustrating as a member (customer) of a football club we all love to have no voice. I admit I was incensed at the posts from some people here essentially calling me an idiot - not only because like most other people I don't enjoy being called an idiot by people I don't know, but because the sum total of hand-wringing and whining which goes on here (which I add to, daily) translates into no real world action.

Notably, I tried to add google images of "sack the coach" banners to my posts last night to demonstrate that it could be done... And couldn't find any, at least not AFL. I couldn't even find "Choco For Baghdad". Australian soccer was the opposite, and Frank Farina and David Moyes would tell me to eat my heart out, they got lots of great banners giving them grief.

I'm wondering whether it's worth reading up on the ACC's and state governments Special Events legislation now too, because I get the feeling having the banner outside the ground will be contentious too.

Please know that I have taken this up through proper channels. Any other way doesn't work and just further marginalises the apparent "kooks" like me who think it's not good enough.

I think Hammond got in their due to not only his services to us an administrator but his contribution to footy in general. Player and premiership coach. Not unhappy with the choice.
The "footy in general" contributions to honour footy/cricket over the years go to the general things at the oval like one of the stands being named the Max Basheer Stand etc..

This is our own race, the AFC race..

hi guys,

Campaigner for your cause. It seems like you're being starved out.

You need to do something about it- make a petition, get 5 digits worth of signatures and present it to the media. Send out an e-mail to the AFC member e-mails etc etc.

The AFC are just going to keep this low key til you all give up.

i suppose my point is, there should be some organised means by which you get info out and do something.

"Should" trouble is there isnt really a substitute product we can switch to.

The crows only play so many games a year and for many no matter how bad things get, turning up every week is just never going to change.

Without getting too far into the specifics with respect to this, I would strongly prefer that signs etc. at the games are not interfered with. I want as close to a freedom of speech for paying customers as we can have.

Of course there is an exception where the content is for some reason unlawful, for example for being offensive, discriminatory, defamatory etc. Of course safety issues with respect to the placing of signs are also an accepted interference.

Out of interest, how would people feel if it were a sign saying 'Dangerfield for Captain'?

Amen brother. Without trying to sound ridiculous, people just don't understand how important this is.

I don't know given the circumstances that I can be relied upon for an unbiased opinion, but I wouldn't have a problem with it (I'm one of those disagree vehemently but defend your right to say it people) - although i wouldn't necessarily agree with it. But the idea of the sign is fine - it's not negative in any way (unless you are Sloane or VB ;))

I have no problem with that, it's a "nicer" way of saying "get rid of VB as captain". Ones positive and one is negative.

They're both effectively the same thing.

The point being that I can't see any reason why we need to restrict the rights of our fans to express their opinions re position holders at our club, even opinions I disagree with.

"Dear Mr Trigg and Mr Chapman.

If it would please you, may I humbly request you go and find alternate employement next year.

Thankyou,
Hugs and kisses,
AFC Member"

Surely you can't find anything wrong with that kinda of signage that'd make them want to take it down?

It's really interesting that deanus was not allowed to hang a banner that had some negative words on it due to "names being on there"

Yet plenty of banners each week have a player's name on it and they are allowed...... wonder what the difference is? ;)

Until fans decide to stop showing up...

See, that protest would work. If fans all emailed the club to let them know they won't be turning up and then did not turn up it would send a message.

1 banner in a crowd will be seen as rabble-rousing.

People absolutely have a right to protest. A football club has a right to protect its brand on gameday. The situation is usual, where both sides think they are 100% correct and both are acting in their own interests. At some point there is a clash of interests.
