He's heading to Carlton.

You poor bastards. I can mail my sign over if it helps, just cut the bottom part off.

Although I should also point out, that I hate Carlton more than anyone (even Port), so woo-hoo!

With all the admin problems Carlton have had over the years I am not sure they would notice any Trigg incompetence's like we did

Are you sure?

In the past hour or so, I've heard he was getting head hunted to replace Travis Auld at the Gold Coast Suns.

So far this year he has been linked to St Kilda, Brisbane, Carlton and Gold Coast. In truth I couldn't care less where he goes, just as long as he goes. I will even offer to help him pack and drive him to the airport.

He isn't going to St Kilda or Brisbane.

The Gold Coast job is very new and could just be a smoke screen to hide the Carlton job. I've just been told, he's is in the running for that job as well.

If he was smart he would take the Gold Coast Job. Scrutiny at Carlton would be unbearable for him I feel as many in Vic think he should have been kicked out the game. I would take the sun and beach life with a news cycle that doesn't give a shit about AFL anyday.

FFS, will somebody take him! Anybody. I can't relax until it's officially announced.

I promised it... i bring it.

Hello,

There's lot of stuff on the Contact Us page but nothing seemed right, so I'm sending this here.

I attended the Adelaide v Hawthorn match tonight, and sat in the same seats in Section 304 of the Sir Edwin Smith stand that I sit in for every game. I wanted to express my displeasure at the management of the Adelaide Football Club by hanging a sign which said "Sack Trigg & Chapman". Yes, i read the Code of Conduct of the SMA, which as you know states:

* Ensure banners, signs, clothing or other observable materials are free of obscene, discriminatory and/or indecent messages

I hung the sign and it was not covering any advertising signage. Nearly immediately, a security guard approached me and asked me to remove this sign, saying that if I did not I would be evicted from the stadium. I pointed out that in accordance with the SMA CoC, the sign/banner was not obscene, not discriminatory and not indecent, and so was not against the CoC. He said that "it had been discussed upstairs" and that because it contained names, it could not be hung. I confirmed with him that if i left the sign up, I would be removed. I asked if I could wave it instead, he said I would also be evicted. I chose to remove the sign and watch us lose instead.

Can you explain either how this message was obscene, discriminatory or indecent, or tell me exactly how I can be critical of the management of the AFC in sign form? Yes, the last part is serious, because I don't want to have to remake a sign every fortnight until it's happy by committee. Is there a list of words, or phrases, or is it just flat out not allowed?

regards
Dean K

I received my response yesterday (but only read it this morning, I was at indoor cricket last night)

Hi Dean,

Thank you for your email.

I’ve read your email and also the report from ACG Security in regards to the sign which you placed last Friday night.

Your message was indeed taken as being an “indecent message”, therefore Security were deployed to speak with you (which they did).

I have since also spoken with the Adelaide Football Club who agreed with the action taken by the venue, as the comments on your sign were certainly disrespectful to the club.

The Adelaide Oval will continue to monitor all banners and signs that are held up/placed throughout the venue as we strive to be recognised as a world class venue.

I trust that you understand our reasoning for you to take down your sign and I hope you enjoy the remainder of the AFL Season and fingers crossed the Crows get back on the winners list!

Regards,
Andrew Sleczka
Operations Manager

Hello Andrew,

I fail to see how calling for the sacking of the CEO and Chair of my football club is "indecent". In fact, that's amongst the most ridiculous things I've heard in a while. I suppose the whole of the Man Utd crowd last season were indecent, given the number of signs calling for Moyes's head? or the ones in the A-League calling for Farina's head?

>>I have since also spoken with the Adelaide Football Club who agreed with the action taken by the venue, as the comments on your sign were certainly disrespectful to the club.

Excuse me while I play a violin for the Adelaide Football Boy's Club. The sign was not disrespectful to the club. They were disrespectful, if at all, to the people in the club who have hobbled the club's ability to compete within the AFL. To say they were disrespectful to the club is to call the individuals greater than the club, which is half the reason I made the sign in the first place.

>>The Adelaide Oval will continue to monitor all banners and signs that are held up/placed throughout the venue as we strive to be recognised as a world class venue.

...to ensure your profitable relationship with the AFC continues, of course. You have no interest in seeing the Crows win, only that they fill the stadium. Striving to be recognised as a world-class venue has no relationship with the banners you do or don't allow - look at the examples above.

>>I trust that you understand our reasoning for you to take down your sign and I hope you enjoy the remainder of the AFL Season and fingers crossed the Crows get back on the winners list!

The only thing I understand now is that the SMA are as gutless as the AFC. I won't be enjoying the remainder of the season, since I know (1) we're stuffed as long as Trigg & Chapman are there and (2) I'm paying $$$ to be a customer not a member.

Finally, whilst you've done a fair-to-middling job of dismissing my concerns, you haven't actually answered my question: tell me exactly how I can be critical of the management of the AFC in sign form? Yes, the last part is serious, because I don't want to have to remake a sign every fortnight until it's happy by committee. Is there a list of words, or phrases, or is it just flat out not allowed?

Dean K

so, rabble-rousers, if you think my sign was a good idea and you've got nothing better to do, write to

andrew.sleczka@adelaideoval.com.au

and

Sharon.Stephens@adelaideoval.com.au (i don't know who this is but they were cc'd into Andrew's email)

to tell them how pathetic their decision is.

If I get any further correspondence, I'll post it too.

Unbelievable isn't is. So you are not allowed to display a sign but its okay for my son to listen to the C and F words all night while security is in the vicinty doing nothing.

Hi Dean,

If your intent is to undermine official’s at your club, then I propose whatever sign you intend to create is authorised by the Adelaide Football Club directly, otherwise you will be subjected to the same scrutiny of last Friday night.

It’s not up to me as to what you come up with!

Regards,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

But it is up to you what I can display - your security guards based on your code of conduct had me take it down. So again, what can I display to express my displeasure at the club?

>>If your intent is to undermine official’s at your club, then I propose whatever sign you intend to create is authorised by the Adelaide Football Club directly

Hang on, aren't I supposed to follow the SMA's code of conduct, because that's apparently why the sign was removed last Friday night? Also, asking the club to authorise a sign undermining the officials of that club seems a bit ridiculous doesn't it?

regards,
Dean K

that bit in blue... is the saddest thing I've read in a while.

There you have it folks. When supporters were disillusioned with the AFC after the Tippett saga the responses here often stated 'Trigg and Chapman are not the club.' Well, according to the AFC they are.

This Andrew guy clearly isn't the sharpest tool in the shed. "If your aim is to undermine the AFC's officials, you should get approval from those same officials first."

What?

To be fair, I've always been a fan of the absurd, so I've sent an email to the club asking permission to hang the sign too. ;)

In fairness to the AFC, its the SMA's decision which you surely should understand that as the AFC are paying Tenants of the AO they are hardly going to allow protest signage. The AFL are very strict as it is when it comes to this sort of thing anyhow.

that bit in blue... is the saddest thing I've read in a while.

I would also suggest that in light of us being in the running for finals and no current public debate on any issue relating to Trigg and Chapmans performance other than Big Footy and a once off article, you would have been setting yourself up for public ridicule rather than actually achieving anything.

Public ridicule, perhaps, doesn't really bother me. This would be the same public that thinks Kim Kardashian is important, correct?

I think your assertion that there's no current public debate on any issue relating to Trigg & Chapman's performance, is incorrect, notwithstanding attempts in the media to quash it when it occurs.

Absolutely love your work Dean!

Obviously the sign wasn't indecent; they're just trying to make it a catch-all.

The second part is the most pertinent; it's the same way they tried to dismiss that guys article last Friday; being understandably critical of two people, has absolutely nothing to do with the Club, and it sure as hell isn't disrespectful towards the AFC.

Chapman & Trigg think they're better than the Club - and I suspect it's an attitude that has spread to the dozen or so General Managers we have as well.

They don't own the Club, and need to stop behaving like they do.

I would also suggest that in light of us being in the running for finals and no current public debate on any issue relating to Trigg and Chapmans performance other than Big Footy and a once off article, you would have been setting yourself up for public ridicule rather than actually achieving anything.

And you're spouting Chapman's line again.

What does us 'being in the (distant) running for finals' have to do with dissatisfaction over the performances of Trigg/Chapman??

Absolutely nothing, it's a flimsy attempt to shift the focus.

Hi Dean,

I’d assume that as you were advised to take down the sign last week, this therefore gives you a fair indication of what is accepted within this venue.

Please remember, it is entirely your choice to make the sign and if we deem the content to be inappropriate then you will be faced with the same consequence.

Regards,

Thank you for your reply Andrew.

I understand that my sign was not acceptable to your standards. That has been made clear a number of times.

>>if we deem the content to be inappropriate

If you are unable or unwilling to discuss what I can have on a sign, please forward my email to your manager so i can discuss it with them, as I've asked the question three times now and not received a proper response. I look forward to discussing this with them instead.

regards
Dean
