If we consider our rd 3 pick taken by Stretch, and our rd 2 involved in a Lumumba trade somehow - what's left?

Melbourne ruled out using our 2nd round pick on Lumumba, plus there's what we get from the Clark trade, we don't know what round pick we will have to use on Stretch.

I do know that giving 4+Frost for 2 is simply bad, very bad.

Obviously he has a spot in there, probably in place of Grimes who goes to the bench.

My one worry is the trend of our small backs following up good seasons with crap.

Ie:

Nicholson had a very good 2012 and a putrid 2013, by which time Terlich was an institution until he followed up his great season with a stinker in 2014 by which time Jetta was our man...

I'll take Grimes over O'Lumbrienumba every day of the week. Let's not shuffle out one of the few blokes we have who wouldn't jump ship if given half the chance for a dropkick like Harry. Grimes is a solid player and I don't know what the go with his kicking was, but it's fixable.

There will be 7 guys going through the back 6 usually. If everyone plays 90% game time you only need a few minutes of one of the 7 playing elsewhere. Tmac, Garland, Dunn, Howe, Grimes, Jetta and Labumba all fit if that has to happen. Not sure why we'd want Frost though. We can't add a shit kick IMO.

I really hope we cant make a deal this year with picks 2 and hopefully 3, and we take Brayshaw and McCartin. And then next year through everything at a big fish! If we end up with Lumumba, Frost and someone else via trade, then draft Brayshaw, McCartin, Stretch and another, pick up a de-listed agent or 2 I think that improves our list a lot.

I am basically completely dumbfounded as to why the majority of you are so firmly against the idea of trading picks 2 and 3 for Dangerfield. I understand you guys would much prefer to offer less and only have the clubs best interests at heart, however, to recruit a contracted superstar such as Dangerfield you simply have to give up quality.

Dangerfield is an out and out gun and I am sure you all know what he can do on field but he would bring just as much to the Dee's off field as on in regards to the marketability he would bring to the club in addition to improved membership and fans through the gate on game day figures.

Draft picks 2 and 3 seems like a hefty price to pay, however, it is important to remember that you are receiving a guaranteed young superstar in return. The draft picks may end up as duds as well and no offence but the Dee's do not have the best track record as of late when it comes to developing young talent. McCartin could be the new Watts and Brayshaw could be the new Toumpas(No offence to Watts and Toumpas who I actually rate and believe could still forge quality careers, particularly Toumpas).

The reason I have felt the need to post this slightly condescending post(Which is unintended, trust me) is because I value the history and culture that the Melbourne Demons bring to the AFL and it would be fantastic to watch them climb their way back up the ladder towards success. Patrick Dangerfield would help them do that and he would be an outstanding addition to the Melbourne footy club both on and off field.

Rivers played on the lesser mobile big regardless of quality so he could help out everyone else. He was closer to one and half defenders than a third one. Dunn's put on 10 KG of muscle and has been thumping all but the fast leading types. Howe is great in the air, Garland is a competent third tall, Grimes is great in the air. Adding another key defender to the team would be Mark Neeld kind of thinking. We kill teams when they have to bomb it in. The last thing we need is another tall who will stifle run.

It is not just about the improved development that the Dee's could offer players such as McCartin and Brayshaw though. At the end of the day they are still young players who are no certainty to become quality players. Dangerfield on the other hand is a guaranteed superstar and he still has 6-7 quality years left in him. You only have to look at Port Adelaide to see how quick things can turn around. Getting Paul Roos and fixing some other off field issues was the first major step for the Demons becoming competitive again, recruiting Dangerfield or another big name player would be the next.

Each to there own i just don't agree he play his best footy as a 3rd tall, do you really think he is good enough to play on players like Cloke Rough, franklin, Kennedy, riewoldnt every week not for me.

If we can't draft or develop players, we may as well fold. You always pay overs for established players so we will never get anywhere unless we pick up some good kids and turn them into quality AFL players. Barry Prendergast is no longer in charge of recruiting and most of the coaching / development staff from the previous regimes have gotten the ass as well. Best time to draft kids is now while we have quality people in place. We have the best part of 5 years of duds from recent drafts so we should start to fill that hole in before it becomes a gaping ****ing chasm.

Also, given Dangerfield is about to become a restricted free agent, "young" is a bit much. He's likely at the halfway point of his career after 7 years.
