List Mgmt. We Got Him! Beams Trade Discussion (Not the Hype Thread)

Are they aware that his dad already blocked the trade? :p

http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/posts/35541585/

Really liked the reply from Robbo Snr, not hard to see where Jnr get his passion from.

Shows the club must be treating him well and he's enjoying life in Brisbane, if dads against him moving. One of our young players I'm really looking forward to watching for many years.

Interesting that Eade said they wanted "like for like, a dollar for a dollar" on this. Aside from the niggling over the value of players and picks, it's silly to pretend this is happening in a vacuum where like for like only means talent. Like for like has to include context, so a talented player who desperately wants out is not like for like with a talented player who is happy where he is.
Dollar for dollar sounds fair on the surface, but Dayne Beams isn't a dollar to Collingwood any more. He's a gift card with a value of $1, which can only be redeemed in one particular store which happens to be in Brisbane.

That's a fantastic analogy.

In respect to the Greenwood 3 team trade, I think why they are saying we can do it without brisbane is because, I believe, they are angry at the whole situation and want to basically nail us to the wall as best they can and take their anger frustration out on us (The supporters that is, possibly the club as well haha) that they have towards Beams. IE make it as hard as possible for both parties to get the deal done.

They are angry with Beams as apparently was out drinking instead of the B&F (yes I have seen the article, I am still a bit sus on it though) and the fact he wants out and now believe it is over money and problems with the club and not all about his dad. I can understand their frustrations, if it was us we would be screaming the same tune and then some especially after last years clean out.

Passion is why we love this game as much as we do, passion is why we get angry and upset when trades like this come up. But I believe emotion is the main cause behind everything that has been touted and that wanting a like for like gun (which I believe is a bit over with Pick 5) is because they are genuinely angry and upset at Beams (and to a lesser degree Brisbane because we chased him "apparently") and basically want him to be screwed the same way they feel he is screwing them.

Thankfully emotion doesn't play a part in these proceedings at the table and a deal that will be slightly one sided (either way) will get done by Friday.

Rumour has it that the Pies have become aware that Beams leaving is about 20% family related at best.

So they are dirty on him and aren't as keen to facilitate a trade to Brisbane as they originally were when Eddie was out there saying how they will definitely help him get to Brisbane because 'its a humanitarian issue' and they would be selfish not to assist.

He could still end up at the Pies unfortunately

Agree with Haso. That's a good way to put it.

There's no point in trying to find an objective value for a player based on their ability. A player's trade value, as we found last season, depends as much on their mobility and their likelihood to stay at a particular club. In that context, Beams isn't worth more than pick 5 to Collingwood, but he's worth more than picks 5 and 25 to us.

My suspicion is we've already reached a point in negotiations where Collingwood can be satisfied, and that from here on in it's just trying to stretch it out to wring a little more from us, hence the shopping around to other clubs. But I might be overestimating their desire to get him out of the club, and underestimating their reluctance for him to go to the club of his choice.

And piss him off to the point where they lose him for another in 12 months? Smooth...

Swann on Christensen (on TR): "I only got wind of this this morning (via his manager) but if he wanted to come this way we'd be interested."

- Lions still not in a position to give up quality players for him.
- Very early days yet
- Re: Beams We understand we need to offer a little more from a picks point of view - looked at our 2nd round pick "and doing some things with that". "Maybe some swaps of later picks as well."
- Mocked Perty's Friday deadline
- "Couple of other things bubbling around for us, including maybe Patfull to GWS"
- Agreed there'll be a convo around maybe taking Christensen this year and Beams next year if a deal can't get done.
- "We're still talking" with Collingwood - ie there's still on-going dialogue.

Sounds like we might have to wait on possible Patfull and Merrett trades to see what we can offer in addition to pick 5.

Hopefully by that time Collingwood will be coming to us for help with the Greenwood trade.

From the Age website:

"North Melbourne's head of footy, Geoff Walsh, has been talking to AFL Trade Radio.
He said a Levi Greenwood deal shouldn't be too far away, given Collingwood's level of interest
yesterday".

Does this mean Beams could be arriving soon?

Pretty much this

I just got of the phone with a bloke that has known Dayne for years and lives on the GC i worked with him for a couple of years speak to him once every 6 months.

Dayne is leaving Collingwood for a few reasons this is how he pretty much put it

Father - 20%
Shaw - 20%
Leading Teams - 20%
Bucks - 20%
Playing with Claye - 20%

They are pretty much the reasons he is leaving so its a bit of everything Collingwood is filthy and are now playing hard ball as they know its not all to do with his Father

Can we trade D Beams for him?

In relations to the bolded bit. Only if the Woods are in serious "cut of nose to spite face" mode. Surely the hard heads at Collingwood understand he is a depreciating asset and we are the last chance to get anything close to theoretical value for him.

You honestly don't think they knew before but were using it to sell to the supporters?

If they're filthy ....walk away from the trade table.
