I really do not get what the AFLPA are doing here.

So this body is charged with enhancing player welfare/ implementing rules thinks it is OK for 34 rogue players to seek an unfair advantage over all of its other members. This body needs to have a good hard look at what it is there for and start protecting all it's members who are disadvantaged by this and not just seek the media spotlight as the defender of the absurd.

In April 2012, Carrazzo had his shoulder blade broken in a tackle by Essendon's Sam Lonergan. What have the AFLPA done to help him? Seriously what is this body trying to achieve as it defends conduct that totally goes against player welfare in the short (Carrots) and long term (health)?

And if they were in fact duped into being human guinea pigs and have to have health checks for the rest of their lives because of it, with risks to unborn kiddies etc etc, and as such are comparable to asbestos victims, what is the AFLPA doing about going after those who did it to them?

Sweet FA while those who did it to them are funding all the lawyers.

The AFLPA are really beginning to stink it up I reckon.

AFLPA needs to be very careful here. They are trying to jeopardise the future rights of the guinea pigs for short term gain. Can't see former players like Riemers & Co falling into line with this. It is very much about a strategy to protect the short term interests of players still playing for EFC.

Once again, it is clear that individual players need individual legal representation.

So the AFLPA is saying that there is nothing new in the 350 page SCN packs and that they don't establish that the players took TB4.

I guess they just filled the pages with mumbo jumbo to try and confuse the players into coming clean. But they aren't falling for it because the AFLPA says they can win at the tribunal. Just like Essendon was sure to win in court, and Hirdy is sure to win his appeal.

True but they also lost it for me when they took Essendon money to pay for player lawyers. They receive funds from the AFL for a reason.

Keeping these players together creates the facade of a united front and control of the situation. Cutting players from their list may create a kranky ex player who wants to spill his guts on the whole Frankendon saga.
And realistically only a very desperate player would want to go into that club to play out their career. I feel very sorry for any young kids who may have to be drafted there

If the punishment is too lenient ASADA or WADA can always bring it to the CAS.

Not just the kids themselves, how would the parents of potential draftees feel, with the unsteady hand of James Hird at the helm? As if the suspense isn't bad enough; as Essendon's* turn approaches... "Please no... please no..."

Harvey is insurance for them. If the players are suspended neither Hird nor Thompson can coach that team and i doubt any other coach with senior experience would want to take up the reins there.

Player's lawyers have written to ASADA asking them to hold the ADRVP within 7 days or just take it straight to the AFL tribunal and they won't be responding to the show cause notices.

Should be big news about it fairly soon!

Lawyers for the players reviewed the summary of evidence provided by ASADA then met with the players, who reaffirmed their commitment to seek “an expeditious process” to clear their names.

I must be thick as I don't understand why the Essendon players have no intention of showing up after they have received their SCN letters. Isn't that an official document. Which brings me back to my previous post about the matter being taken out of the AFL hands as obviously they are being walked all over by the players.

What does the new boss say about it all? If nothing, then he is no better than his predecessor.

It means they won't be arguing their innocence to the ADRVP (the government-appointed group who assess show-cause notices and any responses to them in order to decide if the players are likely to have doped). Unless something strange occurs, it's pretty much a given that the ADRVP will conclude they have doped and will put an entry onto a 'register of findings'.

Once this occurs, I believe the infraction notices are sent and the players are referred to the AFL tribunal. The players can still argue their case here I think, and ASADA will argue theirs. Then, they are found guilty and punished.

If either side (ASADA or Essendon*) are not happy with the outcome, the next step is for the matter to be taken to the CAS - the sports court (in Switzerland I believe). That will drag the process out a looooong time.
