Tutt was second at our club in average goals and third in average I50's and tackles.

He will never be anything more than a role player, but I thought he took a step forward last year. Deserved more love.
A lot of the same people in various selection threads and post-season thread saying that Tutt should have gotten more games, and 9 games wasn't a fair enough reward for the form he showed within those games (especially some as sub), and he should have played 10-15, are the same ones saying now that he offered nothing and he is no loss.

Very good memory - I had Shield wipe it from my mind but you put it back in there.

Lets be honest - alot of posters in here are taking swipes at guys on their way out.
For people to question Griffen the footballer and what he has done for our club - before treating it so disrespectfully - shows that people are happy to have crack at blokes once they are no longer one of us. If there was one blokes whose footy and commitment on the field you couldnt question over the last few years it would be him - yet others to have a crack at him, tutt and others that have left.

I dont read into it any more than venting.

I won't have a go at Griffen the footballer, but I have every right to have a go at the way he left the club.

It was disgraceful, gutless and cowardly and I stand by that.

Think of how many captains have walked out on their clubs?

Not many eh? That says it all for me.

Agreed that he gave his all for the club while playing, but I shudder to think what EJ and Charlie would have thought of his behaviour at the end of the season...

At least the Swans didn't get him! Funny how that trading players ban came in right when it did.....

Don't disagree one bit.
I did say Griffey the footballer should not be questioned - not sure why u seem to want to argue with me over it.

It also showed a lack of any semblance of character either.
Cowards way out

Whats Hamlings tank like? Any chance we've brought him across as an athletic CHF? Keen to see how he goes as I have no expectations but he was a really talented junior and now has a couple of years behind him so who knows.

Either way you look at it you'd think one of Rough, Roberts or Hamling has to go forward this year.

does anyone know the contract arrangements under which rookie-upgrades occur?

do big jack & lin jong automatically get two year deals on draftee wages (the same contract as if we'd drafted a kid at pick elevnty-million)? or can the clubs sign rookies up under their own arrangements?

Goodes and Panos only last 1 year after being upgraded, so I doubt there is a mandatory two year deal for upgraded rookies.

Leigh Colbert
Jim Edmond

Whenever anything is written or said about Colbert, the fact he walked out on the Cats is almost always brought up.

As for Edmond, his reputation was tarnished by walking out and then his cheap shot when he decked Russell Morris.

Definitely not arguing, but in 10, 20, 30 years time, even the deeds of Griffen on the field for us will not be thought of anywhere near as highly as they may have been simply because of the way he left.

I don't think there's any comparison between Griffen and Edmond.

Edmond had just led a side that had played finals once in 25 years to the brink of a GF, and would have stayed for a third of what he ended up on in Sydney. From all reports the increase he asked for (and was denied) was minimal.

Was a bit of a shemozzle by the club (unlike us!). (We'd actually played finals in 74 and 76 though, so he led us to our third finals series in 11 years. ;)) Either way, the club was busy singing up Tony McGuiness from Glenelg and Murray Rance from WA, and extending Malthouse, and Edmond was p1ssed off because he seemed to be an afterthought, and got the impression he wasn't wanted. And yes, the eventual offer didn't help, so he walked. You'd think ensuring the captain was signed and happy, especially a captain who threw his body around like he did, would be a priority - but even when partly successful, we couldn't manage our way out of a wet paper bag...

My bad - I thought we played finals in 76 between 61 and 85.

Yes - mismanagement is, and has always been, par for the course.

Let's hope history doesn't repeat with our signing of Boyd to the detriment of others.

That is my major concern in all of this.

I went to that draft as a guest of the club.

Howard was the 14th rated player on our list and the other 13 were taken before our pick 15.

The only player taken before Howard that Dalrymple didn't rate was Lucas.
Wonder where he was rated on the other 15 club lists?
