Still have an unbalanced list between genuine key position players (i think Cordy is a 2nd or 3rd tall not key posi) vs mids, at least Talia should get a good chance next year.

Good to see we seem to have tried to fix the outside run and not recruited any more slow inside midfielders though
Fixed one issue but others need fixing.
I think cordy is a 2nd back, which is a KPD just not the main man. Rough, Roberts or Talia could be the 1st KPD. You only need 1, as most teams only have 1 super tall KPF. Not sure why everyone is obsessed with having 4 1st KPD, when you only really need 1 or 2.

As much as i like Carlisle if we had a top 5 pick i wouldn't want to give it up, but i doubt we get him for anything less. Id rather chase more Elite mids as i think we need one more. WHE or Treloar would be amazing, id do that trade in a heartbeat.

I agree with you 100%. Just threw up the key back scenario as there has been a lot of talk around that area lately.

Why not also look at others apart from these two?
I prefer drafting but our KPP drafting hasn't been good, so happy to trade for them.
If we are trading, I'd probably prefer to target a player with a second or third round pick to be honest. There has just been a lot of salivating over Carlisle & Talia in the last couple of years.
Feel free to throw another name in the ring.

If he wasn't so injury prone, I would have suggested Nathan Brown from Collingwood

What about Dahlhaus + late 1st early 2nd........

Just out of interest & to kick off the discussion for next year - would people rather:

Trade our first pick for Carlisle?

Trade our firts pick for Talia?

Free agent Rance for nothing?
Rance as a FA. But Talia is definitely the best of the three IMO.

I prefer that thinking - someone who is very good, not a star, not "leaving for more opportunity"
Maybe not Brown but someone of his ilk. St Kilda chased Mitch Brown for a very good reason, and picked up a cheapy from North who performed well for them this year (when Brown re-signed with WCE).

Why not get another GWS defender?
There are few great KPD in the afl, which is why we always look at Talia and Carlisle.

Who do GWS really have though?

Corr, Davis, Plowman & recently Marchbank? I know they've said they plan to use McCarthy as a KPD, but most of them haven't shown too much

Gold Coast might be a better option. Maybe we can package in a ruck too.

They have lots of everything.

Tim Mohr, although recently did a knee. Contracted to end 2016 though.
The one I really liked is May but he resigned with GC.

Someone like Henry Schade?

I wonder what GWS would want for someone like Mohr

you'd expect GC would want a lot for a player like May

I know its fantasy speaking of trading with Essendon... but what about Cale Hooker, cheaper than Carlisle, don't know his contract status. Used to be suspect kicking but that has improved. Bombers still have Hurley and Carlisle so could afford to lose Hooker if the deal was good???

Good suggestion - didn't he turn down a trade to WCE though?
Or was that Essendon not accepting the 2 x 2nd round picks WCE offered?

No chance. Just coming off an AA year where he was awesome for them. Wouldn't be any cheaper than Carlisle. Signed until end of 2016 as well.

He was best mates with Jones....

These are all issues that can be rectified, but I find our drafting suggestive of an environment of which he may not be a part in the long term future. Very happy to be wrong about this.

The drafting suggested to me that he is going.... So many replacements for the small forward style role. But then, better players play midfield forward at underage level, so we could be overreacting.

That was the point I was making about Jaksch when we wanted him - he couldn't get a game in front of them, even when Davis was injured.

He's also best mates with Libba isn't he? From the outside he looks like he's pretty popular so it would be a bit of an overreaction to leave the club just because Liam ****ing jones left  especially considering he's only moved around the corner! Will probably be off an AFL list within 2 years anyway so there's no point following him...

Anyway if he did happen to leave id be shocked and it would be terrible marketing wise but I reckon we'd be able to turn it into a positive list management wise. He'd have a hell of a lot of value.

Wonder if there's anyone at Hawthorn KPD wise (so not Kelly) that Bevo has a relationship with that we could target like a Macca/Crameri scenario?
