Who are we gonna name the kids club after if Dahl leaves?

WON'T SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!?

Perhaps we are moving to a total football style system. Players can all play almost anywhere on the pitch. What I mean by this is that instead of our players leaving the field constantly, they can all move to the forward/back line for a break, rather than the bench, to create mismatches. This allows better players to be on the field longer and other players to play burst football. It also allows matchup mayhem.

So, our forwards apart from Boyd, all rotate through the midfield and are constantly swapping creating match up issues for the other team.
One minute the defender is on bonti who takes him into an unfamiliar contested situation in the midfield and leaves Dahl to move forward. Dahl is too fast for the CHB who either follows Bonti, tries to keep up with Dahl or goes to the bench.
Once he is benched, bonti swaps with Dahl and goes forward.

Our tall midfielders who can play KPF, are going to mess with our opponents selections. Do they select a traditional back 6 or 5 midfielders plus a FB? Do they double team Boyd? Are they ordered to stay back and let our skillful mids control the centre?

Our recruitment suggests we are Going to play many skillful midfielders & use our taller mids as our half forward line. As much as people may criticize this approach to draft selection, this appears to be a logical outcome for our current list.

probably of the few key defenders that can consistently beat Franklin or break even
so

Along with Carlisle, Alex must be priority number 1.

I hope some ex Bulldog team mates of Murray Rance are into his ear and Murray is getting into Alex's. But realistically, if its going to happen we should nearly already have Rance locked away by now. It seems a lot of deals work this way, we were even in talks with Boyd earlier this season.

If Rance hasn't re-signed by next end of next season, then you'd think we'd be front runners.

Same goes with Carlisle, find out who his poster boy Bulldog was and get him to stalk Carlisle..

It is tricky to find other KPDs ready to go who are uncontracted....but....who knows maybe Talia and Fletch will be the new Michael and Leppistch???

I think Rance is quite an achievable option, but that depends on how we go next year. If we're bottom 4 and Richmond are top 8 he won't leave unless it's for a lot more money but if we're pushing the 8 and Richmond fall away a bit I think we'd be a very attractive option for him (and other key backs around the league).

Rance would be a great get as a FA but who knows Talia or Roberts might step up and hold down CHB and we don't even need him.

We could ALWAYS use the depth, could have one of the better key defensive backlines in the competition

certainly one of the best youngest, imo IF Roberts/Talia come on; could just means Roberts goes forward

wonder if we could afford to be targeting a Rance/Carlisle next year..certainly hope so

Yeah no doubt depths good but if those guys take a big step in defense we might be better off using the money (and trade assets if were trading one in) to bring in another elite mid and stack that area which is most important, or a good second forward to partner Boyd.

That's only if Roughy, Roberts and Talia come on though of course and if they do then you'd be better off just drafting another key defender for depth and letting them develop a few years.

And if just say Roberts and Talia come good but Rough hurts himself again then I probably wouldn't want Rance, we'd need a more gorilla back I reckon.

My personal feelings on that approach is that it was handy in the past if you needed to mix things up and by mix things up I mean 1 or 2 players can move when you need to do something different. I think the better teams and players will be amazing in one role that they do at an elite level. Hard to be elite in multiple positions unless you're a star. Sure you can have a utility or 2 who isn't a star but building a team around that just feels like overkill. I just feel AFL is becoming to professional to have players be ok-pretty good all over the ground.

I cringed when McCartney used to talk about having a team of versatile players. I didn't imagine a Brendan Goddard team of robots - I imagined a team that constantly got it's structure smashed in by regimented and well drilled teams playing to their strengths.

Rance is pretty good isn't he? Did he get AA at one stage?
Tigers are offering him a fair bit of cash to stay at Tigers.
Hasn't signed yet, he is a son of a bulldog player

I always think Rance is an absolute spud, because my first images of him generally go to Jones and Minson kicking bags on him every time we play them. But apparently he plays pretty well against other teams?
He was an absolute spud but has turned himself into a quality key defender in his mid 20s, seems heaps of defenders are seen as absolute spuds when they're getting bags kicked on them in their early years but they eventually come good. Its why we should give Talia and Roberts a break seeing as they're much much further ahead of the absolute spuds at the same age :p

We aren't in a position, right now, to have a massive crack at FA. Because of this, and because I'm not a massive fan of Rance, I think we leave the defenders for another 2 seasons. Realistically we are 2 years away from finals and 5 years away from a premiership, so we're best served growing our team from within and making sure we sign up the core group of stars so they never go anywhere. That must be our first priority.

Talia has the physique to be the gorilla backman, Roberts has the athleticism and skill set to be the Hargrave type defender - but he'd want to start putting on weight, and Murphy and Morris have 2 years each left in them IMO.

Getting Boyd will prove a master stroke and addressed our starkest problem, our inability to have someone to catch the highball in the forward line. The freedom and change he will make to the forward line will be a revolution for Dogs' supporters. Stringer and Crameri now get the rubbish defenders and although Boyd will take 4 years to be a truly dominant force, we will be a very good player even as a kid. I cannot say how happy I am we did this.

We have enough talls on the list, we really do. Do we have enough good talls I guess is the question... This year will be a very interesting one for Ayce Cordy, Fletcher Roberts, Talia, Redpath etc.

I'm concerned we will go backwards or hold ground because we've lost body strength and experience, but, I've said it before, this group of kids is going to be some team....

Knock on rance for me is that he over commits to a contest to often, and gives away frees.
Can't question his efforts and stopping capabilities.
The other knock ( which he has improved) is his occasional turnover and poor decision making.
Big improver, but I wouldn't be throwing a kings ransom to bring him over.

Interesting stats about our list for 2015. It's not including the latest Rookies but I doubt it would change it much.

Ranked 17th median age
Ranked 18th Median games

We have a median games played of 20. Hawthorn is 64. N0rf is 2nd in the comp with 64 median games! They are also the oldest team!! Wow pressure is on those guys now.

We have a very young team and we are relatively inexperienced. Melbourne is nearly a year older than us and have 14 games more experience.

It's an amazing list transformation when you think about. Just interesting, not sure what conclusions you can come to from it. But I suspect we need to have realistic expectations.

No no. Surely we will pick up Brett Goodes or Lower with pick one. Cant go past a good influence on the boys. This is about team culture ffs!
