#25 Robbie Tarrant

Games: 1
Goals: 0

Summary:
It was a year to forgot for Robbie Tarrant, playing just two games for the season at both VFL and AFL level. Hampered by a stress fracture in his tibia, the same injury that plagued him last year, Tarrant was forced to sit out the first half of the season as North Melbourne struggled with the form of their key forwards. Once he had returned to an appropriate fitness, he was given a game for Werribee, and then straight into the senior line-up a week later to face the Adelaide Crows. Tarrant had a quiet night, collecting just three disposals and not troubling the scoresheet.

It went from bad to worse, with the key forward receiving news his injury had flared up again and would require surgery, ruling him out for the remainder of the season. Tarrant, who will turn 26 years old by the time Round 1 appears, has 39 games to his name, and will be eager to add to it, however with the forward line now stacked with key offensive options, he may have to reconstruct himself as the burly key defender that the team desperately needs.

Tarrant was able to play just one game in a 2014 plagued by injuries.

Much has been said of North’s need to bring in another big defender to curtail the opposition’s power forwards, but the man for the job may already be within the club’s four walls.

After consulting with the club’s medical team and specialists, North key forward Robbie Tarrant has opted to undergo surgery to repair an ongoing tibial stress fracture.

After reading so much negative murmuring that made its way onto here over the course of the year I'm surprised Robbie is still on our list at all. Coming from a long long way back and will probably be injured but if fit will make an interesting selection choice as I see him as the most suited to play CHF on our list.

where does everyone see Tazza's best position? i personally think he should still stay in the forward line, can't see him making it as a defender personally.

Nowhere near mobile enough or a strong enough OH mark to play back imo.

Forward line or bust for big Robbie.

my thoughts as well. He has never really excelled with the body on body marking, couldn't imagine he'd A-grade in defence if he was wrestling with the likes of Hawkins or Cloke.

He is at his best leading at the footy. i think his best bet is FF once Petrie hangs em up. There will be room for him once Waite and Petrie retire.

Taz FF, Brown CHF, Black and wood on the flanks.

Definitely FF for me.

Can't forget the Richmond game last season. Fully fit he is a handful. Unfortunately he's been dealt a cruel hand. I hope he gets a decent injury free run so he can make a full go of it.

At the end if the preseason and the acquisition of Waite I thought it may have been on okay idea for him to go back. Now that we have recruited another two key defenders and upgraded Tippet I think he will be further down the pecking order if he plays back.

I think it would be good for him to play at North Ballarat this year as well instead of werribee, that way he can play as a sole key forward rather than sharing the load with werribee's talls. He needs to become a genuine FF, too often in the seniors he has relied on being the third tall who gets to monster the opposition 3rd defender.

I always thought he copped the 2nd defender.

I'm not against the idea of Tarrant going down back for the time being. I think it depends on Tippett performing and Grima staying fit. It's almost like Tarrant is going back to his early days of finding your confidence down back then we'll swing you forward.

I think he contends with Daw for the FF position. Daw is still raw, lacks conditioning, is injury prone but has some special traits other players don't possess. Tarrant is injury prone but knows the structures and has a good tank for a big man. We really need one of them to come to the party when Drew retires.

Taz is valuable up forward from a space making perspective. He runs intelligent lines and his value is seen when a guy like Maj comes in and decides to jump over Drew.

However, for mine he just doesn't kick enough goals himself. It's up great that he makes space for Drew but there are plenty of times where Drew is being held and he needs someone like Tarrant to stand up. Just doesn't happen much. Even in 2012 when he had a good run at it he only kicked a goal a game.

Just think he could be more valuable as a defender at this stage.

Still only young in the goal kicking terms, the other issue is is that he very rarely played close to goal.

He was always playing that CHF forward position leading up onto the wings.

I agree though he needs to kick more goals. I personally think he is very capable of doing so.

Id rather not make it public TBH but if you really have to know, on me feet and legs over shoulders all the way

Seriously.....yep he is our future and so on, been hearing that for years with nothing near expected output

He tries hard but I'd already rather (the exciting) Durdin, whether he can run out a game or not because at least he shows ability.

ps; I wish Taz the very best in his future endeavours.

He's not big/strong enough to play as a number 1 or number 2 defender, and he isn't quick enough (obviously) to play as a rebounder. If he plays defense its because Scott is looking for a spot for him because he can't break into the forward line.

I'm surprised by all this talk that Taz isn’t big/strong enough to be a key defender. He absolutely is.

Hope he puts it together next year and everyone will see his worth.
