Buckley inherited a list that contained.

- Pendlebury at 24. Dual AA.
- Swan at 27. Dual AA.
- Reid at 23. AA in 2011.
- Cloke at 25. AA in 2011, 69 goals & smashed the record for contested marks.
- The likes of Heath Shaw, Dayne Beams, Sidebottom, Harry (AA in 2010), Dawes, Nathan Brown, Wellingham & the like in their sweet spot in terms of age demographic to challenge.

There is no excuse for him taking the club to where it is now.

But had an aging Jolly, Didak, Brown, Johnson, Maxwell , Kraks, Davis and Ball with no ready replacements for any of them. This is the major problem that Buckley inherited. We did not have players to replace them.

The average crowd dropped 5% from 2010 to 2011 according to your figures.

It was you that suggested that Buckley's tenure as coach could force us to play in front of empty stadiums. You actually supplied the figures.

I simply pointed out that the drop from 2010 to 2011 doesn't really help your argument.

My bad give you the 5% but it wasn't the point . Surely you can see one of the side affects of not performing is the consistent drop of attendances year after year and more so since 2011 .

Sorry I have to strongly disagree. It's called natural attrition and happens to every single club over a 3/4 year period. Sydney, Hawthorn, Geelong were no different - the only difference was they didn't offload a raft of players in their absolute prime.

None of the posters I'm seeing raising concerns about Bucks seem to be calling for Mick's return. Merely questioning whether he's the right man for the job in the here and now.

And history has shown that internal view was wrong. We were ready in 2010 and passed it by the end of 2012. Jolly, Didak, Johnson, Brown were all past it and Maxwell and Ball were in definite decline. Our list was no where near competitive against the Hawks and Swans.

Maxwell wrote that Malthouse, in Arizona in late 08 said that Collingwood want to and can win the flag in 09. I think there was a meeting in 09 when we were going ok that shit needed to happen in order to have a serious tilt in 2010. They thought they were ready in 2009 but knew they were ready in 2010.

I was ok with buckley coaching collingwood, but i wanted him to coach the vfl side first, not as an assistant. Allow him to be fully in charge of his own side before taking on the top job. Didnt want someone learning on the job while we had a team capable of winning a premiership.

While this was happening, we could of kept that status qou for the next couple of years while we were having success and a major threat for the flag.

Richmond. 1980 Still waiting.
Essendon. 1985 8 years. Came off back to back though.
Hawthorn. 1991. 17 years although somewhat excused due to 80's.
Carlton. 1995. Still waiting
North 1999. Still waiting.
Swans. 2005. 7 years
West Coast. 2006 Still waiting
It's what makes Brisbane (aided), Geelong and Hawthorn so bloody good. They are exceptions to the rule.
We had the chance in 11 to go back to back and get the two flags some think we should have had. Didn't happen.

Maxwell pointed to an attitude shift as well because before that time, winning a flag was not spoken about. The players believed they could win one soon but weren't co for table speaking about it out in the open. For Mick to start talking about it in at the end of 08, it must have thought that it was time to strike. Can't do that unless you have in the group. Jolly and Ball were the final touches.

I would like to think all of us on this forum have Collingwoods interest at heart
As much as i have critisided Buckley on this forum , weather it is game style, managing players, gutting the list from 2012 and onwards, negative feedback from ex-premieship players.
i hope that he does prove me wrong! But i cant see at happening.
All these guys supporting Buckley to death, and shitting on Malthouse and using the scum carlton as an example.
Just remember what Malthouse did 4:grand finals. Yes i do accept that he cost us in 2011 with the crap he was saying in the media however.Dont forget numerous prelim finals
1. He got players like batheras mckee freeborn jason cloke in 2 succesive grand finals against the lions .we should have won the first one!
2.2008 Buckleys last stand as captain we lost to the cats by 5 points in the prelim .If we won that game we would have creamed port in the grand final
3. And 2011 were i aggree Malthouse was a main

He could have won 4 with a bit of luck.You dont know guys how upset i get thinking about it.
I am not a Buckley hater but all the feedback i have heard , and what he has done in the last 4 years i strongly believe if we do not make the 8 this year , and everyone agrees we have the softest fixture in history since the afl fixture has been compromised and see an improvement with our youngsters especially 2nd and 3rd year players.Enough is Enough he has to go at thebend of the year

Essendon came off 3 grand finals in a row. 83,84,85. Same group of players

Hawthorn came off success in 83, grand final in 84,85, preiership in 86, grand final in 87, premiership 88,89 and 91. Be interesting to see what core group of players they kept.

Carlton were about the oldest premiership side on record.

North played in 6 prelims in a row as memory serves.

Swans and west coast played in back to back grand finals. West coast had their obvious problems plus lost their best player. I thought sydney were and average grinding side, never thought they had the talent our side did.

We had our chance in 11, i also think we had a chance in 12. If we had of had a clear crack at it without all the bullshit, we could of been mentioned with the likes of geelong, brisbane etc.

It really is laughable how anyone can defend what has happened over the last few years. The excuses are never ending, Malthouses fault, injuries, retirements, compromised drafts, culture, list age profile, assistant coaches, training methods,the sub rule, players wanting to leave, a young list, etc etc etc. We havnt improved anywhere in over 3 years! These excuses are just that and are all BS.
