Changes vs Hawthorn

I just hope it is a corked calf only and not something more sinister. The club has been hell bent with engaging with the fans the last couple seasons, we get better access to the inner workings of the club than any other but when it comes to injuries they still p!ss in our ears and tell us it's raining.

Depending on the weather and how wet it is Gray missing is ok.

Gray is always one of our best in the wet.....see the bombers game last year for example

Funny how everyones throwing out the towel already. Gee moore would of been handy though.
Shoot me down but neade for lobbe sounds ok considering the conditions because of his tackling speed and pressure
. Leave the 3 tall forward line for a dry day

Not fussed if we lose we lose.

Our window is starting to open up and to take advantage of it we need a deep list, and as our depth is young and inexperienced it could actually work in our favour.

Both Hawthorn and Geelong went backwards before going forward. If this is our year to go a tad backwards in order to go forward then so be it, it will only make us stronger.

Now its the time for Young and Ah Chee to step up and show everyone what they have to offer.

We're missing the grand total of two players from our best 22. I thought Young was some sort of clearance/contested ball winning machine? He should easily be able to cover Wines. And the selection committee made its own bed last week with selecting Ah Chee over Moore, so they can lie in it. He's obviously rated higher now, so let's see him perform when it matters. I have faith in both players :)

We're going to win, and when we do, all I'll hear from most of you is 'We are Port Adelaide' and 'Est 1870' like as if you never doubted us. Easy to say that after the fact. As B.C Forbes said:

"History has demonstrated that the most notable winners usually encountered heartbreaking obstacles before they triumphed. They won because they refused to become discouraged by their defeats."

If this team are winners, like I know them to be, then they won't be discouraged by setbacks, but see this as an opportunity to prove that we aren't just a best 22 with no depth.

Hawthorn were missing similar calibre of players in different positions (Lake, Gibson, Roughead, Mitchell, Rioli) last year at AO and they still gave us a very competitive outing.

If we're serious about contending this year, we need our depth to step up especially at home.

Looks like this game is going to be the opposite of last years when a lot of the Hawks were out. First thing we need is good games from Lobbe and Ryder to give us an ascendancy in ruck and Lobbe to cover Wines tackling strength. Hopefully Boak will have a super game after doing nothing against Sydney and being quieter than usual against Freo and the Roos. Hartlett seems to be coming back into form although his kicking is still a bit wayward. Ebert, Pittard, Broady and Carlile are playing better than ever. Schulz may have regained some form with his 4 against the Roos. With Gray out Monfries and Wingard may spend a bit more time up the field which would make Schulz's role more important.

I admire the optimism of some fans here, wish I had that level of confidence.

I'll quote this if and when we win :D

It's not optimism or confidence. It's just backing the team in. We've never actually seen what this side will be like without Gray and Wines in it, so we've got no idea how much other players are holding back because they know those two will get the ball. We still might get smashed. It's pretty likely that we will. But until that happens, I'm going to go to the game with the faith that the boys can pull off a character building victory.

Gray is a loss but we can and should absolutely still win on our home deck.

Hawthorn are susceptible to our slingshot, more so than the likes of Freo or Sydney. Hawthorn don't set up as well for the counter attack because they hit targets so well.

If we bring the sort of manic pressure we know we're capable of, we've got a back 6 who can intercept and force turnovers, and if we move the ball quickly, our forwards are way too good for their backs.

A loss is a totally unacceptable outcome.

Bugger about Robbie. But good on Ah Chee, hope he has a great match.

If its time for our depth to be tested then so be it.

Absolutely. Hopefully the remaining players believe in themselves more than some people on here do. Hawthorn is a great team, but the way people are talking we need our best 22 just to have a shot at winning. We don't. What we need is for the 22 on the park to do their job.
