I'm sure there's a reason that they're not in for Lacazette. I was under the impression when we were first in for him that he was keen on PSG. Looks like Aubemeyang has turned into hot property - he's a guy that I'd like us to have a go at - looks to have absolutely blistering pace. The new Torres?
I'm not sure Benteke is to be worried about. Villa don't seem keen to sell and we don't seem keen on the buy out. In the mean time we're getting linked to smaller, faster types in Bacca and Hernández. We've made an excellent start to the transfer window, but the whole striker conundrum is the most important issue to fix. Does anyone know how much money is in the kitty to make these signings?

Benteke is still the Number 1 target but will only come if Villa lower their demands. (James Pearce)

Salomon Rondon remains a possibility if it becomes clear that the Reds can’t land Benteke at the right price. (James Pearce)

No truth in rumours linking Liverpool with Asier Illarramendi. It was all just paper talk, the club has no interest in the Spanish Midfielder (James Pearce)

on what planet would we be able to atttact a playerlike lacazette jod?
have to just accept that benteke is the best we can get and hope he improves a lot.
On the planet where we offer Lyon 40m & offer Lacazette 120k / week. Would get the deal done IMO.
id be shocked if better teams dont do the same.
Why couldnt we attract Lacazette. Liverpool dwarfs Lyon as a club.

As WC said, we could offer big wages, probably doubling whatever he is on at Lyon.

But yeah im sure if we offered that money and he was open to a move other clubs would come calling too. But ****... we should at least try.

I don't particularly want him, but I reckon we'll work something out with Villa and end up with Benteke.

We should be offering players in part-exchange who we don't need, like Enrique, Borini and even Allen to try to bring the money component down.

Yuck to the first two.

Common sense to the third.

Part exchanges never happen though.

In an ideal world this would be player we'd 100% want... but a) Does the Rodgers committee want him b) would FSG be willing to stump up the cash for him?

He'd be our next Suarez IMO (without the baggage). Lets see if FSG truly have ambitions in getting us back to the UCL and more importantly bring some silverware to Anfield.
It's frustrating to not be a fly on the wall. Like I think it's gross negligence if Liverpool arent looking at Lacazette. You just wonder if we have made an enquiry and the asking price was ridiculous or whatever then fair enough.

But if BR and the committee just have no interest in him then that to me, is just bizarre.

The way we talk ourselves down all the time is ridiculous. Goes back to what I have been saying about the infusion into the club/supporters of mediocrity. We'll never get back to the top if this is our thinking.

there's about a dozen other clubs that would do that as I said and they have UCL to offer.

EFA.

What was it last summer? Sigurdsson to Swansea for Vorm and Davies or something like that. It can happen, it's just rare. But if it suits all parties, why not?

Is it coz of the whole Tomkins thing? Biggest load of shit I've read in one article, and I've read Patrick Smith stuff

Nobody is saying though that Benteke is a bad player. In fact we all know he is a very good player but that doesnt mean it's the right type of player for us.

He is too big and lumbering. We want to press the ball at all times. Can Benteke do that consistently for 90 minutes up top? Is he lightning quick and excellent with the ball at his feet, can he link up play with Sturridge, Firmino and Coutinho? Or will he play with his back to goal, like Balo and slowing things down. Can he play off the shoulder and look to get in behind?

I dont know, ive seen a bit of Benteke over the years. Quality player, just not sold on him being the player to perfectly fit the mould at Liverpool. Also once Sturridge is back, fit and firing. Is anyone selecting Benteke?

I dont think so, you would go with a front three of Coutinho/Studge/Firmino. Do we want to pay 32 million for Benteke to sit on the bench? Can Benteke play in a front two with Sturridge, possible but I have my doubts on that working. Plus that pushes Coutinho to the point of a midfield diamond and Firmino to the bench.

Benteke can only play in one position and that is his drawback. Sturridge can play anywhere across the front three, we saw that with Suarez and the way they interchanged throughout the SAS year.

I do want to spend 30 million on a striker though, it just has to be a striker who fits our style and can play anywhere across a front three, to give us more options. Lacazette of course would be the perfect fit.

no he's isn't lightning quick or as perfect as Suarez was for us, but he's no lumbering slouch either. I don't think he'll play with his back to goal. he won't perfectly fit the mould here but who will? who are we going to buy next month that will come in and make that perfect impact day 1? that seems to be a big part of it for me, the club isn't risking it all on Sturridge being our number 1 man again, he will be our number 2 if we bring Benteke in. not in terms of quality or whatever but merely fitness - I'm not banking on Sturridge being fit and firing even this year and I'm glad the club doesn't seem to be either. the best we can hope for with that guy is easing him in throughout September/October so he can not get re-injured in November/December. has to be ultra baby steps with him. I think it'll be ages before Stuzz completes 90 minutes.

Benteke's a strange one, I think he's closer to someone like Giroud but then stats suggest that he mostly scores from crosses, and we don't cross

One of those transfers where anything can happen
Nothing good will come of it. It will be classic Liverpool to buy Firmino and then buy Benteke. Like what is the actual point.

I'd rather go into the season with only Ings, Origi and Firmino (operating as a false 9) than spunk any money on Benteke.

In a perfect world we'd be throwing the kitchen sink at Lacazette or Aubemeyang. In reality they are going to oil-rich clubs or not moving.

Next best option would be a 1-2 year deal for Tevez, but he's obviously going back to Boca J.

Yep id actually be happier going with Ings or Origi as they would at least suit the style. Spunking the money on Benteke would be a mistake.

Benteke probably wouldn't be my first choice and I definitely wouldn't be paying the buyout clause but he is being massively undersold in my opinion. You'd think we're talking about Andriy Voronin the way some people go on.

His goal record is very good, he's athletic, good on the ball and the idea that he can only score from crosses is completely false. I completely understand the arguments that he wouldn't suit the way we play but the guy is no mug.

no way man, you wanna go into a season with 1. Sturridge (INJ.) 2. Ings 3. Origi? I'm just praying BR actually uses these two new young strikers he's acquired, let alone him backing them in to start from day 1. I'm not sure about those kids just coming in and leading the line, to bank on that is as risky as banking on Sturridge being the number 1 striker. I don't even feel I'm being pessimistic as I just see this as reality, I mean in the past I used to think something like that would work, like surely Origi or Ings would be ready to go when we need them if Sturridge is still injured, but that's just dreamworld and in reality the Prem is thick and fast and if they're dropped right into it with that expectation they wont have a good start to life here and may never recover, that's what happens with kids especially at our club lately..

What I was saying was that we could spend 30 million on Benteke and get the same results of dross. Whereby we drop him anyways and play Ings who suits the style of play way better.

It's all about how we play as a team and who would make that work. Lambert, Balotelli, they are decent strikers, have scored plenty of goals in the past. Neither worked because of the way we set out. In the end we had to use Sterling, quick, skillful, good on the ball, can get in behind.

Id trust Ings or Origi to do that better than Benteke.

Of course I dont want to go into the season with just Studge, Ings and Origi, we must buy a new striker im just not really happy with that striker being Benteke. I dont think it will work at all.
