Was going to go to the game. Krak is out. Now not going to the game.

18 disposals and two goals, honestly what more do you want. Idiots. Ken "I'm not focussed on this game" Well obviously bloody not.

You show a poor attitude. None of us really have the inside information as to why decisions are made.

It seems that Kern's mantra of 'Team Defence First' is overruling all other logical sense

Natural ability, being able to pinpoint kicks, reading play and correct positioning, finding space and time are all less important o_O:drunk:o_O

Heaven forbid we are trying to turn our team into Crowbot light

Where's the flair and fun we have been promised

Loss of Polec and White has left us flat footed. It's that simple.

1. place high expectations / pressure on first 18 to succeed
2. first 18 fail to thrive under pressure
3. no repercussions for first 18 for lack of form.
4. loop

I think it is in the best interests of the playing group to drop out of form players. The players are in a rut and need a circuit breaker.

I would like to make a few brief points in regards to Krak, and I would like these points to be ground in the context of Port as being a development side. 16 teams in the AFL are development sides and I still hold faith in both the players and the coaching staff, for Port will become one of the two teams in the AFL to evolve beyond a development side; through sustained success of a core group for 5 years.

I have always felt Krak is a more useful in the forward line. I don't believe Port have a dearth of poor decision makers in the backline. Krak in my view, could become an outstanding utility player, but I feel he is being shoe-boxed in the backline. There was a point in time this year when the forward line could have been Schulz, Hoff, Ryder, Monfries, Wingard, Krak.
I believe this has good balance between traditional and non-traditional means of goals. Good decision making, reading the play, etc is just as important on the Half-forward flank as the half-back flank.

Through anecdotal evidence, I came to the conclusion that ball movement from the backline (and how the backline looks to me) was better this year without Krak. I recognise this is an unpopular opinion so I shan't justify it at length, and I am cognizant of the great length of this post.

Lastly, I am under the impression BigFooty's consensus was that Krak would require more development (read: fitness work)before playing in the seniors in the second half of the season. If this logic was true, and Krak was under-done at the begining of the year, I would suppose his untimely omittion would be not unreasonable, but a matter of fact.

And if you're read this far, you're rewarded with additional unsubstantiated verse: my thoughts on this week's section.

Andrew Moore (Omitted): Needs another chance to prove he's a #7 pick?
Alipate Carlile (Back): Again? hope it is not a chronic, degenerative problem.
Sam Colquhoun (Omitted): Not Muffins! I thought he played well, but didn't add a great deal of substantial benefit. Could use the outside run.
Tom Jonas (Omitted): Was coming, Tommy looked without any confidence. Good move for all parties.
Nathan Krakouer (Omitted): Meh.

Cam O'Shea: This must be part of a broader plan. Can't have Pittard, Broadbent and O'Shea in the same backline for mine. Butchered the ball against the Crows seconds.
Tom Clurey: I like Tommy Clurey. Good boots, too. Black, red and gold. Outstanding.
Jackson Trengove: ✓
Jake Neade: Will provide something
Karl Amon: Can understand a like-for-like swap of Muffins. Needs a full game.

I can see why Krakouer was dropped. His GPS figures would be measured in metres not kilometres. He has a knack of getting in a good spot getting possession then distributing the ball. I had another team supporter say to me he looks slow and I had to tell them he had one of the quickest draft camp sprint times ever. But whoever sees him run? I'm not surprised people don't think he's quick. If he worked hard like Amon or showed some exhilarating dash like Stephen or Brad Hill then he would be an automatic selection. Support running? Can't recall it. Maybe PortWTF can do a youtube contradicting my recollection. :D

Stats are a funny thing too. Last week against Sydney Jonas had a DE of 75% and 5 clangers. Krakouer had a DE of 77.8% with 3 clangers. Everyone's calling for Jonas's head who is now a muppet with the ball, Krakouer is a shock omission whose skills are undeniable. Jonas had to go and Krakouer just hasn't done enough to hold his spot.

Colquhoun the same as Krak did not demand to be picked. Still built like a 12yo, shame on the Port physical conditioning department. And as I warned in the unpopular Port opinion thread still cannot be trusted when he puts ball to boot. His DE was worse than Krakouer and Jonas and he collects a stack of possessions in the open thanks to his hard running and reading of the play. Then he burns them.

Of the more senior players under pressure, Monfries has dried up as an attacking option but they must be happy with his defensive efforts. Sad to see him wasted like that. Lobbe is hanging on via reputation right now. Harvey could have come in for him and backed up Ryder in ruck. Schulz I feel for as he spends most of the game at half back helping out a beleaguered defence after we turn over another s...l...o...w transition. Still think a rest to bring in Harvey wouldn't have been out of the question. If we lose tonight it might happen. Broady, well tbh I would have given him another chance too. I like Broady. And I think there were two options for bringing Harvey in. ;)

Funny with Lobbe, he came into his own a few years ago when Redden fell over and he was the only ruck option. Now Ryder is here as a genuine ruck option his form has fallen away again. We should get that hypnotherapist back in to convince him he's the only ruckman on the list. He clearly thrives on the responsibility.

Great post, all the issues about Krak it was mentioned weeks ago about his lack of fitness and running ability and he struggles even more when he is surrounded by others who are struggling too. this is why we get over run by opposition that are prepared to run hard, it is why when our defenders get the ball and try to create that hte ball is kicked to no one, it is why schultz is spending too much time at half back because some blokes arent running hard both ways.

And if Butcher get mentioned as a possible in ill blow up.

Like most people here, I am really confused by some of these selections...

Krak - His issues were known well before he was selected the first time (let alone the second time)...given his form is still far better than most in the side surely he gets the chance to work on his issues at AFL level (like so many others seem to be)?

Hoon - ditto Krak...everyone knows he's almost solely an outside player at the moment. I think he's performed above expectations in that role, so again why not let him work through his issues at AFL level?

Moore - I don't really rate him, but why give an inside mid two games as sub and one full game then drop him for more game time? He's never been suited to the sub role, either give him a month of full AFL matches to prove himself or cut our losses!

O'Shea - I think we're a far better team when he's up and running but we can't keep picking him hoping he will just switch it on at AFL level. He needs to earn his spot. It's two years in a row now he's come into a season with poor form and basically just waited for a call up (not demanded one).

This is spot on. Like you all, I was surprised with Krak's ommission, but he is certainly still not up to standard fitness wise and no doubt the numbers back this up.

I think Broady is lucky and Lobbe, Schulz and some others need to pull their fingers out. Let's hope that with these selectins we get a victory. I will keep the faith.

PS i will spew if Amon is the Sub !!!

We are experimenting, resting and developing players for the rest of the season. It's very obvious, just enjoy the growth potential for next season and anything near finals this season is a bonus.
You mean a negative right?

What's worse about the whole 'shuffling fringe players' thing is that we've dropped fringe players who are in form to bring in fringe players who are out of form. O'Shea was hot garbage against the Crows and Neade started off like a house on fire but only had 5 touches after quarter time. Krak and Colquhoun both had better games at AFL level than those two did at SANFL level.

I'm going to keep harping on about it. Not picking Harvey or Butcher is a massive wasted opportunity. Every game we don't get into a developing KPF at this point of the season is a failure of the coaching department.

Testify, Brother!

But don't you have that sinking sick feeling in your guts that Butcher/Harvey aren't going to play at all this year? I was running through this possibility in my mind at work today and I couldn't explain to my co-workers why I was getting increasingly pissed off.

You gotta pity these poor Canadians who know nothing of AFL.

Surprised to see Krak out, thought he played well. Clearly going through some fitness issues
How's Aaron Young's form been? An in form Young is exactly what we need - thought he'd come in place of Moore.

Hoon for Amon - outside run for outside run. Amon was probably ahead of Hoon prior to his calf strain. Fair enough for him to come in. Hoon was good but his defensive side was lacking as it has been since day dot.

Moore for Neade - selecting for forward 50 defensive pressure. Moore hasn't played well, may have deserved more opportunities but season has been average.

Clurey for Jonas and Carlile for Trengove make sense. Both players have been very average and are team leaders.

O'Shea for Krak - tough call. Krak has good disposal but lacks defensive accountability and fitness. O'Shea hasn't been in great form. Will Krak correct his deficiencies in the SANFL?

Agree with this. I think O'Shea has been brought in to play on Elliott. Elliott is a small that plays tall and has fantastic hands. I don't feel comfortable with any of Broadbent, Pittard, Impey, Jonas or Krak playing on him. O'Shea is agile and quick enough, as well as tall enough to try and negate Elliott's aerial strength.

Lets just hope it's 2013 or 2014 finals series Cam that rocks up

I dont mind the changes. I wouldnt have dropped Krak but the reason given on the website is understandable enough. Defensively he needs to improve.

I like O'Shea coming back in. Hopefully he can perform the role dropping in front of Cloke like he did in that final 2 years ago. I prefer him to Hoon. Amon gives us pace and skill going forward.

Impey to play on Elliott.
