No chance he is delisted.

Has plenty of exposed AFL form. Was leading our best n fairest last season prior to his injury.

So he was injured, again?

Also learn to read, I never said we should delist him. What I said is no club would trade for him, and the only way a move would occur is if we delisted him so he could be signed as a free agent

To be blunt, he's worth more to us than he is any other club

And what happened to all that fitness and conditioning he developed? Much of it would have been for naught once he had to go off his feet for an extended period

The whole point of a preseason is to get your body in good nick for the season proper. Like it or not, Astbury wasn'twasn't

Clubs have ways of maintaining a player's conditioning despite injury these days. It's not like Dave would have been on the couch watching netflix and eating cheetos for four weeks.

He couldn't walk on his foot

Even with an alter g, there is only so much you can do. Most of the work is about minimising how much muscle wastage occurs, not maintaining what you have

We always over rate our second tier players here when it comes to trades

People thought Thirsfield would get a first round pick from freo, they offered a third before talks collapsed

McGuane was going to get us a first round with another player from the GC because they needed experienced KPB. He left for a half sucked tic tac

Given Astbury can't hold down a first 22 spot for more than a few weeks due to injuries, I think we need to be realistic about his trade value

IMO he has none, and if he moves it will be via delisting

Clubs don't pay for injured potential any more
I think he's lost value and some are overrating what he could fetch but I think you've gone too far the other way. No chance he's delisted for a start.

Plus clubs make stupid decisions all the time. :D

The era of steak knives is gone

Those trades rarely pay off and lock up a spot on the list

As we have seen, clubs now prefer to pick steak knives up as delisted FAs
Jack "Steak Knives" Crisp at the Pies says hi. :D

We're trading him to Melbourne for a second rounder and Trengove?

For a few days. Most of the delay was due to waiting for the stitches to come out so he could play full contact.

He wouldn't have lost much. I think you're overblowing the incident tbh.

I don't remember these scenarios and certainly wouldn't have advocated any of those trades. Just because some supporters have overrated our players' value via trade in the past doesn't mean that by default our players are less valuable than we all think. Particularly, like I said, when so many clubs are desperate for decent KPPs. Which Astbury is. When fit. Which is why I've said, repeatedly now, let's wait and see how the year plays out before claiming he's worthless on the trade table.

Learn to read dude :P

I said IF he was to move, and more importantly he's worth more to us than to a new club bidding for him

And you think he was training full tilt with stitches in place? Seriously?

The talk that "clubs are desperate for Kp's was raised when defending the Thursfield pricing, mcguanes trade value, and even why Cleve Hughes would get us a pick

The reality is clubs do pay a premium for KP's, but they pay unders for risk

He played 17 games in 2010, then 5, then 2, then 5, then 8, and now 4

This has risk written all over it

They got the 2nd rounder as well. Crisp was the steak knives on top of the 2 picks.

They wanted the second rounder AND 21, but the lions refused. Crisp was their counter in lieu of 21

They wanted pick 5 and Aish too. Doesn't mean they were ever a chance to get it. That pick was pretty quickly gone for Christensen.

Crisp was the throw in to break the dead lock on the proposed 1st + 2nd round deal. There's a reason the Pies fans have nicknamed him steak knives. :p

I didn't say that. I just responded to your comment that he couldn't walk on his foot.

Again, I don't remember nor ever took part in these discussions, and frankly don't see how it's relevant, unless you're assuming Astbury is the same player as McGuane/Hughes/Post, which IMO he's not, and that's a big basis for my argument. Astbury's best football has been far and away better than anything those guys ever produced.

Yep, fair enough. But, again, the rest of the year may change things, depending if he stays fit and in form.

Yep.

2014 Trade Period:
Pick 60 + Rhys Stanley for Pick 21.
Joel Patfull for Pick 21 (somewhat unique situation).

2013 Trade Period (weak draft):
Shaun Hampson for Pick 32.
Jesse White for Pick 44.
Josh Bruce for Pick 48.
Scott Gumbleton for Pick 55.
Trent West for Pick 41.
Stuart Crameri for Pick 26.

2012 Trade Period:
Chris Daws and Pick 61 for Picks 20 and 47.
Tom Lee, Picks 24 and 45 for Pick 12.
Hamish McIntosh for Pick 38.
Tom Hickey, Picks 25 and 46 for Picks 13, 36 and 55.

2011 Trade Period:
Ivan Maric for Pick 37.
Jack Gunston, Picks 53 and 71 for Picks 24, 46 and 64.
Brett Renouf for Pick 33.
Jordan Lisle for Pick 29.
Tommy Walsh for Picks 35 and 68.
Josh Jenkins and Pick 41 for Pick 31.

Just reinforces your point of it only requiring one club to believe in a certain key position prospect and offering a trade proposal well above their value based on current output/performance.

How many of them only played a quarter of all games possible for the past 5 seasons primarily due to injuries?

If he was at Carlton, what would we offer for him?

Even with an afl return, no chance a pick - people are arguing a second round for Yarran remember
We paid a 2nd rounder for an injury riddled Shaun Hampson
What did geelong pay for Hamish McIntosh
Melbourne for Chris Dawes

196cm 95kgs KPD that have shown a bit are not easy to come by

Rucks always command a premium, but Astbury isn't a ruck

As for Dawes, how does his Games missed to injury compare to Astbury? He's played 6, 4, 20, 18, 23, 12, 18, and 8. Seems a tad over 6 a season

B: Grimes, Chaplin, Batchelor
HB: Houli, Rance, Vlastuin
C: B.Ellis, Cotchin, Jetta
HF: Deledio, Griffiths, Edwards
F: Thomas, Reiwoldt, Vickery
R: Maric, Martin, Treloar
I: Miles, McIntosh, Grigg, Knights

EMG: C.Ellis, Menaude, Lennon
Is this the norf Thomas, screw that and your putting a future gun in the emergencies, Get rid of Jetta and put C.Ellis in his place and piss off Thomas and put Motlop in his place.
