Like others have said, if we didn't play fast attacking football he'd probably be alright. But we are at our best when we do, and Mick wouldn't be the right person.

How would you know? Dew hasn't been senior coach so can't be held directly responsible. They're style is still win the contested footy, tackle well and kick to their tall forwards. Not too dissimilar to us minus a bit more run and carry.

I have, and he has a better football mind than Voss. Voss is demanding and wants you to win every contest but thats about as far as he goes. Dew thinks outside the contest.

I have paid attention to a lot of what he has said in the last 18 months as his name has come up very frequently as being next in line for a senior coaching role. Knowing how he played his footy, I expected him to be a big dumb oaf. He actually surprised me and seems to have a very good footy mind.

You need a lot more than a decent footballing mind to be a successful coach these days. Dew doesn't have the general intelligence and experience required. He would be a monumental step down from Walshy in all areas.

I think you'll find anyone we pick will be. Dew to me is best available, great football minds don't grow on trees and from my perspective who knows which assistants out there have that.

He should be considered unemployable after his childish Carlton exit. Also being the only coach who refuses to code doesn't bode well for him getting another job.

Before woosha stepped up to lend a hand I wouldn't have minded malthouse coming in in a limited mentor type roll till the end of the season. My training being it wouldn't be full time and on a limited schedule and I didn't know of any close connection to Phil, meaning he'd be far enough removed that in a time of instability he could offer us something.

That said, not in a full time, multi year head coach role...

Lol, ironic that I couldn't spell "have" correctly in that sentence. Of course I don't have proof of his level of intelligence, I'm just going by what I hear and see. In terms of experience, I don't think he's proven that he can lead a whole team of players, some of whom are not much younger than him, and his recent results at Sydney are worrying. I think he's been in the right place at the right time rather than him being the one who's brought success to teams.

There's a huge difference in the way Lyon speaks in comparison to Dew. And Lyon made Sydney a better team when he was an assistant there, Dew has made Sydney a worse team.

What evidence are you using?

He has been at Sydney since 2009. Defensive coach, then Stoppages for 2012. He has had his role expanded since then.
Not something that happens to a "right place, right time" guy. Recent onfield form does not cancel a largy body of work. Sydney is facing the transition from the old stalwarts to their young guns, plus other off field distractions. This is not related to coaching ability.

I'm not pushing for his selection, but I wouldn't make rash judgments about him with out strong evidence.

In the 2008 grand final Dew put HIMSELF up forward and we know what happened then. He kicked two and dished out two to win the game. He made a premiership winning move. Now I'm not saying he is the best fit for us but the man doesn't come across as a dill either.

Reckon Malthouse has achieved too much and knows too much about footy to instantly dismiss him if he's serious about coming down here and being involved in some capacity.

The thing this club desperately needs is cool level heads, great coaching and stability. I like how Campo's managing the group under terribly difficult circumstances and he has the first and last and is showing signs of the second. His coaching and game day tactics seem to be improving each game. I'd like him to stay with Worsfold behind him. If he insists on going to Carlton (although why anyone would do that is beyond me), I'd be moving heaven and earth to get Worsfold to stay. Malthouse is not an option - he is an opportunist who has tried to drop us in it in the past, has left two clubs badly, believes his own bullshit and would only be interested if he was otherwise unemployed. No, No, Never.

Dew took over from Tudor as midfield coach in 2014. In that time Sydney have gone from 1st to 5th in contested possessions and 1st to 9th in clearances, which is shocking considering the big bodies they have in their midfield.

We will struggle to find another experienced assistant coach such as Walsh, to coach us. If its experience that we want then we must look at a current head coach. I believe the club should do everything it can to get Alastair Clarkson. Last year many on here wanted him but there was a feeling that Alastair would stay at Hawthorn and attempt to get a threepeat of flags. Its looks like that is going to happen. This may result with Alastair looking for a new challenge. Given the list we have (hopefully Danger stays) there is a lot for any new coach to work with. So the move to the Crows could be viewed as a positive one by a man like Clarkson.

Having said that I am very impressed with Luke Beveridge. Luke strikes me as a mans man and wont take crap from anyone. There must be another Beveridge out there and the closest I can think of is Nathan Bassett. His playing days history helps him command respect especially from a group of young men. Bassett went through three years building the Redlegs into a premiership team. Then he won back to back flags. His five years at Norwood earned him a position at Essendon which he has now held for two years. So Bassett now has seven years of coaching under his belt. I don't have any idea of his people management skills but I doubt that he would match those of Walshy.

If we have to go for a untried AFL head coach I just feel Bassett could fill our needs.

Understand that position Brissy, but Clarkson will never leave the Hawks - not while they have a huge possibility of dominating the competition for the foreseeable future. He's also made it plain last time we were looking for a coach that he would never consider Adelaide as a club or location. I was one of the 'get Clarkson' brigade last time but in hindsight it was never going to happen IMO. And of late I'm not sure I like the way he is clearly coaching the Hawks to play dirty football. So no I don't think he's a fit for our club nor will it happen this side of the second coming. Don't know Luke Beveridge at all so can't comment, but agree I think Bassett with Worsfold would be a great combination for us if Campo decides to commit career suicide and go to the Blues.

I'd say Don Pyke is right in the frame. Coached Roo and has an obvious connection with Worsfold. Lock it in

Problem is he's already in the frame at Carlton and they are way further down the track than we are obviously, also has a connection at Carllton with Assistant Rob Wiley having both been at the Weagles with Wiley being an assistant coach there for 7 of the 8 years Pyke played there.
