Thanks for your donation to the flight plan. We can now afford to pay out Robinson and Hird.

Stick together through the saga and support the boys.

lol. Clowns, comedians, peanuts.
Aren't you a Dogs supporter now?

How long for Caro article saying he was selfish to resign now?

Interested to see if we can actually get a good coach and evaluate their performance appropriately given surrounding circumstances.

At least the Board had the courage of its convictions - Seems strange with three rounds to go but it is what it is.

I just feel like we bowed down to the masses of the media, we just bent over and became a nothing club by doing what other clubs do, not being Essendon.
Surely, we could have held on til the season was over.
Nothing is achieved by removing him 3 weeks out from the end.

From Little

Today, the Club has announced that the board has accepted James Hird's resignation as senior coach.

This is the culmination of many weeks of open discussion between the Club and James, which ultimately led to James tendering his resignation last night.

Our on field performances in 2015 have clearly been unacceptable. As the season progressed, it has become increasingly apparent to the Board that change was needed.

To his credit, James has always accepted that he is ultimately accountable for the performance of the team.

There have been a number of mitigating factors around our performance in 2015, including injuries to key players and the ASADA / WADA process.

However, across every measure, season 2015 has fallen well short of our expectations, and James’ expectations.

On behalf of the Board of the Essendon Football Club, I wish to thank James for being a loyal and dedicated servant of Essendon over the past 25 years.

His love and passion for the Club can never be questioned.

James is also one of the most resilient men I have met. In the midst of unprecedented pressure James has stood tall, and been steadfast throughout in his belief of what was right.

He will forever be remembered as a champion of this Club. A legend.

The man who combined immense talent with fierce competitiveness; loyalty; endurance and a sense of fair play.

A player and a captain who was admired by all; loved by Bomber fans.

James Hird’s place in the history of our club should never be questioned.

I have spent in excess of two years working closely with James. We didn't agree on everything, but we always agreed that the players were our number one priority.

In relation to his departure, the Board and James have agreed on a negotiated settlement. The terms of this shall remain confidential.

A process for selecting a new coach will be confirmed over coming days, and we will provide details on that process in due course.

In the meantime, Matthew Egan will coach the team for the remainder of the season in a caretaker capacity. Matthew has been an assistant coach at the Club for the last four years, he knows the players intimately and will be supported by the other coaches.

The internal football department review, being conducted by CEO Xavier Campbell, will be finalised in the next month.

The review is broad ranging and has focussed on:
- Structure
- Reporting and Evaluation
- Roles and Responsibilities
- List Management and Recruiting
- External Benchmarking

Finally, I thought it also timely to discuss my own position as Chairman in light of today’s announcement.

When I inherited the role of Chairman, I resolved to see the ASADA investigation through to its conclusion and allow the next Chairman of Essendon clear air to lead this Club into its next great era.

As such I plan to stay on as Chairman of the EFC until I can steer the Club and its players through the final stage of the WADA appeal.

As mentioned above, we are close to completing the review of our football operations, which now will include the search for a new senior coach.

Overseeing these changes, together with the orderly transition to a new Chairman, will be my key focus during this period.

I encourage you to watch the press conference streamed live at 3:15pm on our website or by clicking here.
Dude I posted this several pages ago :p

Whilst I've been increasingly disappointed with the game plan or lack off, this is still sad news, Hirdy is and will always be a club great and for that reason I felt we should allow him to coach the season out but in saying that we need to find a suitable replacement, we need to do a review of all coaching positions and most importantly we should keep Hirdy firmly in the Essendon family.

also all this talk about leaking is silly. It got leaked after the process had been completed, hours before the official press conference. ie how it happens everytime a coach has been sacked and of no big deal.

Leaking worth being upset about would have been if yesterday someone ran with "The Essendon board is expected to host a crisis meeting with James Hird tonight", as appears to have happened yesterday
I was thinking along the lines that they seem to have had a last supper, and the "leaking" this time was very slow.

Much preferred than Horsburgh getting ambushed en route to meetings, or door knockers on Damian Drum's door.

I'm surprised to see some of you are so quick to say no to the possibility of Bassett coaching. I reckon he'd be perfect and he was my early choice for the Carlton job. I feel sorry for you guys trying to appoint a new coach with the Crows job still up in the air. I think that's the prized seat at the moment.
Maybe you should look at Simon Lloyd.
Bassett has been our fwd line coach this year when we've been woeful. No thanks, you can have him.

Probably no to Lloyd too just because of the brother connection. Think we need some fresh eyes. Bolton would be good just for his enthusiasm (for at least 2 weeks until we beat it out of him).

Thats for my kids. I haven't enjoyed footy for a long time and will probably switch off. The game is shizen. Just watch the carcass being picked of for the next 5 years.

Just a complete shambles. Pissweak.
Once the romance is taken away from you, you start to pick out the flaws in the game. I'd love to jump on board the rebels more if only they meant more to me, it really is the game they play in heaven.

Glad you haven't made it a non oppo thread.

I've been watching him over the month and I'm continually stunned at how stoic he is.
Some might say he's living in a dream world of ignorance.

But for mine he's shown enormous mental strength to weather the storm.
Part of me wonders if he put so much into presenting a calm, strong face for the club that he lost his edge when coaching.

We'll never know. But this may give you some clear air.

I hope so.

Well ****,

Nothing but questions from me:
What a crazy turn of events - why now?
Why not earlier (in favour of Bomber) or post WADA? Just seems like a nothing time to do this.
Who will want to coach the club in its current predicament? ...Anyone...?
Who will want to come to a club with no coach? Could it be another trade period with a cloud over the coach?

I agree that maybe the board members who presided over this shitful chapter should be next to go.

Now I hope Hirdy goes full Ken Bruce & we find out what we really thinks of Vlad, Gil, Caro, the AFL Integrity Unit et al.

Don't disappoint James...

Anyway - Onwards & Upwards! and all that crap.
