If you ignore WADA completely and only look at on-field performances, the board have done the right thing. This is the first year when I've known for a fact the gameplan/coach is a big part of the problem. Full pre-season, same coach, not too many injuries and the season's gone from worse to even worse.

I While the AFL is is revelling in this without a doubt, I don't think they can be blamed for this.

Had results not been so lop-sided, I don't think he'd have resigned/been sacked/whatever.

I don't know how the AFL is to blame for WADA appealing - which arguably was the straw that broke the camel's back as far as player resilience is concerned, which in turn was what ultimately accounted for Hird.

Joint Investigation, trying to get players off - WADA would never have appealed except for AFL interference.

i hope they are realstic as to who they should retain. I don't think Goddard, Stanton or TBC should be kept. I expect all who be kept and we'll go after guys in FA too

Bomber got us into this mess by hiring Robinson who in turn hired Dank. Not only that, but he's bitter as ****. Why would we want to bring him back?

We need to move forward, and the only way we can do that is by starting afresh.

I even saw someone say yesterday that 'the drums were beating'. Yes, because people decided that oh, no, we can't be bothered thinking long term any more, let's add some more short-termism to this. That'll fix it. Let's give AFL/ASADA/WADA another win. That'll fix it.

Essendon needs a premiership coach who has an outstanding record, is respected and has a father figure to the players. I nominate Mark Williams who should have been the coach from the outset rather than James Hird. Only problem here is Sheedy and Mark had some difficulties towards Sheedies tenure at GWS. If only they can make up I feel Mark Williams will be a huge asset to the Bombers

It's bad, but it's not bad enough to excuse the performances. Other clubs have it a lot worse. Gold Coast and Brisbane for example. I don't see injuries as an excuse at all this season.

Bassett has been our fwd line coach this year when we've been woeful. No thanks, you can have him.

Probably no to Lloyd too just because of the brother connection. Think we need some fresh eyes. Bolton would be good just for his enthusiasm (for at least 2 weeks until we beat it out of him).

I don't see the brother connection as a bad thing, plus he's a sports psychologist which would probably come in handy (not trying to troll, I'm actually serious).
If the rumours are true, we already have Bolton stitched up and will be announcing in the next week or so.
There are some pretty good candidates out there at the moment, but I think you'll definitely have to look at a rookie coach with the WADA cloud still looming. Not sure an experienced coach would want to tackle the uncertainty of it all, but Harvey could be the best bet there.
