Sorry mate, but as a leader Jobe has failed.

I love the guy and he's possibly in my top 10 of all time favourite Essendon players but as a Captain he has failed. He even admitted that last night.

If I had a choice I'd keep him but I'd also make it know to the whole world that everyone is available for the right price and see what we can get.
I'd also make it known to the world that the black jumper with a red stripe was available if the price was right. If Uncle Tobys approached us with an offer too good to refuse, we could be wearing a white jumper with multicolour ringlets on it next year and call ourselves the Essendon Cheerios.

Yes everything has a price. But when there are significant cultural ramifications, it's not always worth it.

The new coach may not want the stigma of Jobe, AOD and the baggage that comes with it.

New coach may want a complete clean out. Didn't Hardwick want to gut the list when he was applying and move on club legends?

Already trolling as a Doggies supporter?

...

Tell me any other captain or player who wouldve gone through all Jobe has for Essendon or any other team throughout the last 3 years? Any single person you try name would've cracked.. By far the stupidest post I've ever read on any forum.

kelvin_sheedy coping to much flak on this. The opinion is a valid one in some respects.

For years this group hasn't been up to it mentally and i'm talking pre asada. Jobe has been brilliant individually and tried to carry the side. But it must be noted our erratic form, lack of success, getting totally blown away in the finals we played.

Bomber noted the poor attitude of the group in getting ahead of themselves when things were going ok, and there's not much to say any of that has changed.

Its valid to question whether he has been able to lead the group well enough.

Heppell, Hooker, Hurley, Baguley.

Their form hasn't wavered and they've just rolled up each week and performed to the same level they every other week. Don't think they have any thoughts of quitting the game.

Regardless of what has transpired, our captain, in the middle of our most trying time as a club, broke down and could barely play the game. You see it as a blip, I see it as not strong enough leadership.

I grew up where no matter what happened the leader did not show any weakness.

.. oops, forgot Hird. He's been under more duress than anyone and been battered behind the scenes but still stood strong this whole time and never flinched.

Did I seriously just read that Jobe has failed as a skipper?

Amazing. Utterly amazing.

Wow.

Welcome to Kelvin land where logic and common sense are rarely sighted.

Would be a valid question if anyone could have lead the group under the same circumstances.
Even great leaders can not cover for an overall lack of leadership we have had at the top end for 10 or so seasons.

So it is ok for Hird to have lack of results, to be one of the people who welcomed Dank and Robinson into the club, who did not follow up on the program
they where on and stop it when players had concerns or Doc Reid had concerns.
His leadership is not questioned by you despite being the one in control but Jobes is ? WTF

You really do live in fairy land!

So being injured is poor leadership now?

Got it.

No, nothing to do with that. Have you missed everything this year.

He and others have come out and said he's not enjoying that game, thinking of quitting. blah, blah, gone overseas in the middle of our darkest period.

Whatever way you want to spin it, thats not the sign of a strong leader. One of my bug bears over the last 3 years is that we haven't been vocal and strong enough. The players, the captain, the coach, the chairman, the board.

I only see 2 leaders at Essendon. Hird and Heppell. One is gone. We have a leadership vacuum.

Huh, what has getting Dank and Robinson to do with leadership? Doc Reid, wtf. You are using the Caro argument, just add stuff that has no relevance but looks bad.

The fact that we were getting belting and the players were mentally shot but still wanted Hird gives you an indication of his leadership. Results don't dictate whether you are a good leader or not.

Its what you do in adversity that shows where you stand.

He's also copped, by far, the most flak of any of our players.

We do not know the full extent of what's going on with Jobe behind the scenes and I don't think converting that into a slight on his leadership is fair. He has been captain for six years and three of those six years have been in the shadow of this scandal. He is only human and it is only natural that circumstances will wear him down.

It's pretty easy for us to say, sitting up in the bleaches, that he's weak.

I'd say he'll quit the captaincy at the end of the year. I'd say he's had enough. I still maintain calling that poor leadership is uncalled for. I'd like to see how you or I would go in similar circumstances; also keeping in mind that as captain he has dragged or almost us across the line in so many games.

Also, only two leaders? Give me a break. What about Hurley? What about Hooker? What about even Baguley? What about Myers?

I think connecting this with Hird's departure full stop is cynical on your behalf, but I probably shouldn't be surprised.

I've had doubts about a lot of things this season but none were about Jobe.

Jobe copping the flak for basically being honest.

I'm proud that Jobe is the leader of our Club

I stood and applauded him winning the Brownlow I stick with him now when things aren't going his way.

He is a fantastic club man and leader

The good old days of Woodstock & Wacky Tobacky, should have worn off by now kelvin.

My theory next year is if essendon can win enough games jobe watson can charlie again. He polls very well when we win has to play at least 18 games though
