Get over Scott coaching a premiership in 2001, the Drivers Dog could have coached that. The players won it just like they did in 07 and 09. Scott has done not a lot since- blew 2013 with appalling selection and game plan in the 1st final and couldn't go on with it in 2014.
Recruited McIntosh and lost the opportunity for a young potential ruck and not demanded more and better assistants.

That could apply to any coach we would have had at the club.

Wrong , your just simply having a sulk.

When scott came to the club at the end of 2010 our outlook was bleak. Most people beleived the premiership window was shut and we were about to spend years outside the 8. Scott has so far exceeded expectations.

Like clockwork, crazy26 arrives with his numbered lists.

Thats because .

1. There are stupid people who blame scott everytime we lose.
2.there are people who cant control there emotions and blame scott everytime we lose.
3.I prefer to look at our results in a mature way.

Rubbish. Bomber's gameplan was well and truly worked out by the end of 2010 hence the prelim result. Scott made some very important tweaks that saw us utilise long kicks more than the handball happy garbage we'd been dishing up, and the contested marking of Hawkins and Podsiadly were crucial to the gameplan working. Scott also made the hard calls on Mooney and Milburn (did so again with Chapman and Pods at end of '13) and put faith in young players like Duncan, Menzel, Christensen and West. I distinctly remember Duncs and Menz in particular playing well for us in the tail end of 2010 when we had some veterans injured and as soon as the seniors returned the young guys were turfed. Compare that with the likes of Rivers and Stokes not getting games at the moment.

Hear hear on number 1 GC26. Not many of the anti-Scottites come in here and say well coached when we win.

I'm the biggest critic of his coaching and had a thread shutdown previously as there were some precious souls who couldn't handle the truth, but now is the time to put forward a valid reason as to why he should remain as coach... I can't.

1. Bartel as a player with the onus of kicking in after a behind... ok, he struggled. Thurlow the best kick in the side took one kick in from what I witnessed, resulting in a goal, yet Bartel continues to take the kick outs... go figure... why is he even in defense considering how critical we were a mere 2 years ago when he was in the back half.

2. Walker... I'm better... simple.

3. handball. Yep we handball at every opportunity... when we kick the ball long we score. Scott obviously can't see it.

4. Hawkins. Simply doesn't lead, nor does he chase.

5. Tackels - poor.

6. Scott. 'I'm confident our best is good enough.' Well Scott, how about refrain from the arrogance and start to coach.

7. Menzel. - If it's a gut feel that he won't cope with the rigors of AFL, why did you rest him from all forms of footy... what does that actually prove? Do you want him to prove himself at training in match simulation... spare me. You played Vardy after not playing for an eternity and after 4 VFL games.

8. How easy do the opposition score from one of our behinds... we simply aren't able to counter against it.

9. Forget Dangerfield, forget Henderson and forget Selwood... without a decent ruck we're going nowhere.

I'll leave number 10 up to those deluded.

There are plenty more.... Johnson being allowed to dilly dally with the ball is one.

Scott is a very reactive coach he tends to make moves too late.

Eg bringing in Kolo late
dropped Stokes a month too late, brings him back even though he is cooked

didn't give Smedts much of a run (whether you think he is shit or not he deserves at least a run of 3-4 games)

plays Bartel back when we know he is poor at it (could bring smedts in and play thurlow in that role)

You had me at Scott, you lost me at Smedts :p

Scott's obviously got Johnson in his gun like chapman two years ago. Was clearly in our top three players but [Chris Scott] wasn't sure if he had a good or bad game tonight. With all our poor players the fact he singled out one of the few good players shows he is a biased fool.

Wait, what? He didn't seriously say that, did he?

Broadly speaking, I'm nowhere near as critical of Scott as others are here, but that's an absolutely astounding comment by CS if true.

Feels just like round 5, 2007
Massive difference in the talent, age profile and experience of the list.

I'm increasingly frustrated with his coaching.

There appears to be a stubbornness to his coaching. The leaving of Bartel down back is a glaring example of this. You don't need to be astute to see that Bartel is no longer suited here - he has played the odd decent game as a sweeper but has played a few more poor ones. Last night it could be argued it cost us the game. The prelim final against Hawthorn a few years back to my mind should have spelt the end of Bartel's time down back.

His post match press conferences have a smugness about them to me. This ongoing, "I know what we are doing but are not going to tell you" type attitude is wearing thin. I really wonder whether he does actually know how to address some of our issues? The clearance issue being one of them. We have had this same problem for 3 years and are only getting worse.

People may counter above saying that is why we are going hard for Dangerfield - to address our midfield issues. But it's almost too convenient. I don't think Danger alone will solve our problems. We have class with Selwood, Duncan, Caddy and Guthrie yet continue to lose at clearances. It has to be also about our structures and that comes back to coaching. The Saints have a younger list than us, with less midfield class, yet slaughtered us in contested ball. Every team does.

I'm not after Scott's head. But he needs to improve quickly.

Did you not take your pills today

Because add in
Danger, sel, hendo and a bloody ruck and the team changes
It wouldn't matter who we got to the club... the coaching staff simply aren't up to scratch.

Besides that, I take great pride in the fact that we 'drafted' our success...

That's your opinion. We easily had the best list in the league from 2007-2011 and I didn't think the window was shut based on Gaj leaving. So don't paint me with the same generalized brush you paint everything else in.

Anyway that's half a decade ago, not worried what CS did before, I'm worried about now and the future.

Yep he did say it.

Johnson was very very good for 95% of the game. But the other 5% involved blowing a certain goal with the most arrogant display of lairising he's ever displayed (he's certainly got competition) and putting Bartel under pressure with a hospital handball in the final 90 seconds which directly led to a turnover and St Kilda drawing level.

Anyway that's half a decade ago, since then we have gone backwards every year and we play a soft brand of footy that has won us 1 final.

It was the opinion of most non Geelong supporters as well as around half the posters on this board at the time .At the very least Scott took over an old side that was 81 points behind a younger Collingwood early in the 3rd quarter of a prelim final , that than went on to lose the best player in the comp. To win the Grand final next year was a remarkable effort .Please all Scott hatters watch this video .

A few on this board talk about how we had such a great list , like I already said we couldn't even make the grand final the year before. The reality is that nearly every premiership side has one of the best 2 lists in the comp . No coach ever coaches a premiership without outstanding players.

It took Thompson 10 years to win his 2nd premiership ,even the mighty Clarkson took 9 years.

We have gone backwards but we were always destined to go backward given the players we have lost as well as the players who age has taken a toll on .It takes time to build a premiership side , if things go well in the trade period this year and we start to get a better run with injuries than we are heading on the right path.
