Traded Adam Treloar [traded w/ #28 to Collingwood for #7, #65, 2016 first rounder]

The report in the AGE is that Collingwood are not offering 2 first rounders but Richmond are. Making our offers very similar.

So the argument is Collingwood's single top 10 pick Vs Richmond two top 15 picks.

Pick 7 and 15 at the time, we thought that was a better deal from GC, but Beams chose Brisbane so we couldn't deal with them.
Same will be the case with Richmond and Treloar, he'll choose Collingwood, so that will be that. Plus we will have pick 8 if results for to plan. PA beat Freo's reserves. GWS win, Geelong will get a beating from the crows though so yeah we'll have pick 8... plus we have more players to work with.

Maybe, but the one thing about Treloar is that he won't want to screw the club. You need to upgrade that top 15 pick, that won't be enough and rightfully so. GWS would require some serious steaknives, and you would be reluctant to do that. The worst thing for your side is your ladder position, it will hurt the ability to land a big fish, especially in a weakish draft. Not impossible, but it hurts, especially if the player is open to a couple of clubs. GWS will probably rather the top 10 selection anyway.

In fairness to the Tigers, they purposely avoided any trading last year and backed their list in. Good on them to make that call, it's proved successful.
Even if you guys don't get Treloar, I think you'll still get Yarran, and possibly Motlop, who will both compliment your list nicely.
Exactly.

The Tigers haven't paid overs for anyone on their list. As good as Treloar is I don't see the club suddenly changing its strategy to get him.

Try Lennon or someone like that. it will be someone of quality. GWS have a NEAFL team full of first rounders, they don't need scraps. They need elite talent.

Didn't even buy us dinner

I mean come on, Treloar is worth at least a top 3-5 selection. You could have 10 selections and not nail a player like Adam Treloar....but then we have Tigers thinking pick 15's are fine...

You can't trade something you don't have. Not enough to satisfy gws? Understand that. But it's what they have at their disposal.

It's also less important who you'll get with the pick, because it seems they're after points to pay for academy players anyway.

If Richmond don't manage to sign a 'big fish' like Treleor, it doesn't mean that they weren't 'working their butts off' trying to make it happen.

The assertion that they deliberately refrained from trading or signing FA's last year is just plain incorrect. They 'worked their butts off' to try and bring Armitage and Trengove to the club, but Armitage chose to stay at St Kilda and Trengove was red-flagged due to injury.
Richmond are positioning themselves well in the market. Their onfield performance is now attractive to potential signings, and by all reports they are in a very good spot salary cap wise. But it still takes two to tango. Other players have to agree to sign there, or other teams have to agree to a trade proposal.
Perhaps the Tiger Army needs to be a little more appreciative of what the club is doing...they are (finally) getting a lot right. They are controlling what they can control, but they can't control what other players or teams decide to do.

Well done, very good post. Agree completely. Whilst Richmond may not have managed to get their trade targets in the past, they have avoided making rash decisions just because their plan A didnt come off. It takes a strong club to say 'bad luck, it didnt happen, we'll back ourselves at the draft'. Many others - usually Richmond - would sign trash just to show that they're in the game. When really... they're not.

It is up to Richmond to get those picks then. Trade someone to get another late first rounder. GWS are not going to accept scraps for Treloar. They want the Treloar trade (if he is traded) to pay for their academy selections so they still have an early 2nd to head to the draft at the absolute least.

They won't be going to the draft this year or next and possibly the year after. It'll be all academy selections, they have 2 top 10's and a couple of other prospects like McDonald and the Daniher's cousin this year. Next year they look like having 4 top 20 picks and year after another top 5 and maybe a top 20 at this stage.

All these players get a 20% discount so the big thing for GWS is covering the points in any given year so they don't go into debit the next years as they are not allowed to 2 years in a row. Its why the age is call 2 first rounders trumping Collingwoods offer because it'll help them cover the cost this year and next. Its is also the preference of GWS and they will be demanding 2 first rounders from Collingwood for Treloar.

If the pies get them an extra one this year, for Scharenberg for example, don't be surprised if they on trade it for somebody's first rounder next year as they need them spread over this year and next.

We also have other options if Treloar doesn't eventuate. Not worried at all.

Almost as good a value as Levi greendood too...derp
Still sulking over that?
Treloar is superior to Martin in every stat bar goals per game. Clearances, possessions, goal assists, tackles, efficiency. He even spends less time on the ground.
