I don't know, I'm just stating my opinion from watching GWS games - I don't pretend to have any idea about the inner goings on at clubs. They have a lot of impressive players and will be a dangerous team in years to come.

If you disagree, that's cool - I don't mind, just reporting my thoughts on Treloar to someone that asked.

I wasn't attacking you just in general people are saying big things about him and hell be a star so on i was just questioning why he wasn't highly regarded at gws enough for them not to worry about him.

Just a few things here:

1) Treloar has already been coached by Buckley as a kid. So he already has a good relationship with him. As a matter of fact, Buckley has coached a decent amount of the GWS list. It's a big part of how we also landed Adams when he was also linked to Geelong.

2) Adams is also pretty good mates with Treloar

3) Dan Richardson was at ESP before getting the gig at Richmond, Buckley is managed by ESP. Who do you reckon was most likely Nathan's rep? They would also have a good relationship. Buckley may not be the greatest coach ever but he's not an idiot and list building is something I reckon he's not bad at.

4) I'm aware this "being a good side" thing is pretty new to most of you, but as a big club with a big supporter base, you'll need to get used to being linked to nearly everyone and not getting any of them. Under Malthouse, it happened to us from 2000 to 2009. Under Buckley, we've landed just about every single player we've been seriously linked to, which suggests to me we're most likely going to land Treloar, Aish and Kreuzer. Not guaranteed of course, but recent history would suggest it's the case.

this is where it's interesting tho, what will you give to get them all??? we are offering 2 1st rd picks for Treloar & you will need one of yours to get aish, Kreuzer is FA so that's a matter of $$$ but GWS may be pushing Treloar to take the Club that gives the best trade deal. if they aren't they are stupid.

I honestly don't know, not sure if perhaps he had the stongest urge to come back to Melbourne or was perhaps just the most money hungry. Perhaps they just had such an abundance of class in the midfield that they could lose him and have more of their youngsters step into the role on less $.

I think GWS will come around with Witts and offer him the required salary to be honest. Two first rounder would be most unlikely and a last resort. Negotiations would have started a long time ago BTW.

Witts has refused to be traded there & is contracted so has the right to stay. hence this is getting interesting....

If this treloar is so good how come gws weren't in a hurry to sign him, in fact the list manager came out and said we signed all the stars we wanted to keep and well have a look at treloar now and see what we can do?

We offered him the same deal we offered Shiel.

Don't work like that as colliwobbles might pay him money to sit out for a year and they end up with nothing so in the long run they push for a better deal and player goes where he wants.

When he told my (player at Giants) source he was leaving a fair few weeks ago now he always said it was to the team which gave us the best deal.

When he announced he was out he said there wasn't a single club in Melbourne not in the running.
