Howe is wanting $650k per season. He is not worth it.

His stats average for the year are as follows (he played majority of season at HF):
22 Games; K: 9; HB: 5.0; T: 2.5; R50's: 2.3; I50's: 1.3; Goals: 0.5; BH: 0.50

Compare his stats with that of Jesse White who played the majority of the season at HF for us.
18 Games; K: 9; HB: 4.5; T: 1.7; HO's: 4.4; I50's: 1.7; Goals: 1.5; BH: 1.1
jeez even white has better stats..

Pretty confident he played a majority of the season in defence. Still consider him a spud anyway.

Everything I've read about him suggests he's a great kid, so I'm putting a lot of this down to his manager and the media.

Well said. Media need readers ---> Collingwood top 10 pick to leave headline ---> attracts Collingwood supporters and every other idiot wishing this to be true.

In the end, I am confident he will stay and believe it is his stupid manager causing delay.

He looks happy at Pies and has shown no discontent.

TBF, I thought he played mostly HB.
Also, did not see a single Melbourne game this year, so I'll defer to those who have.

The only reason I don't want to lose Freeman is from a business sense. Won't get anywhere near what we paid, and thats bad business. As a footballer I think hes quite limited anyway. But that's just my personal opinion and I still hope he stays and proves me wrong. Wouldn't lose any sleep if he left but.

Mullett is North Melbourne's Seedsman. Bit slower, but also a better decision maker. Seeds has a nice boot but doesn't really think before hoofing it sometimes. Similar weaknesses, 1v1 game, lacks consistency, etc. I'd rather retain Seedsman and give him a real rocket over preseason if that were the case. They're too similar to consider it a worthwhile trade.

As for Howe, do not want. He looks flashy when he takes marks and has plenty of athleticism, but his defensive running is very poor (one of the reasons he was moved back), he is not a high possession winner and even though his kicking is generally good, he is prone to Adams 2014 style shanks.

I want to take a look at Whitecross from Hawthorn, personally. Not the greatest idea honestly, because of his massive injury history. So I'm not going be bothered if we don't even register interest. But on talent and physical attributes, he'd be a better fit as a classy Wing/Flanker than Aish IMO. Would cost next to nothing and I think Whitecross would excel doing what Varcoe did this year. 15-20 disposals a game as a hard running flanker/wingman with very good disposal.

We need classy ball use going into our F50 and coming out of our B50. At his best, Whitecross would offer both.

I take on board what you're saying about Howe - although, played deep behind Cloke he might cause some issues for the opposition.
Any thoughts on other possible targets to bolster our forward 50 potency?

So take this however you like...
My mate Robert plays football with Nathan freeman's brother. He heard as recently as this week that Nathan was being offered 250K plus from the saints, and his manager was wanting the same from Collingwood.
I did my research into Robert, and he indeed is decent mates.
Just thought I'll leave that here.

I'd pay up IMO unless we think his hamstring is permanently shot.

He hasn't played a game of afl. I just think he's being insanely dumb. We've got players like Frost who's been on the rookie list played 30+ games and are not chasing money. He literally should be taking anything we give. But I bet his manager in his ear coz the bigger the pay for Freeman, the more the manager gets paid.

I agree, and it certainly doesn't make me respect him more (nor does it really make me respect him less... unless he leaves) but at the end of the day I think we need to see what we can get out of him, its only been 2 years, furthermore in the grand scheme of things that offer of 250K is probably only 50~75k more than we're offering him at which point it's really not that big of a hit to our TPP cap.

If Freeman is asking for 250k+ then adios..

From a base wage in the 60's to 250k+ without playing 1 senior game..?

Get a 2nd round pick and use it in the Treloar deal. Club needs to take a stronger stance on players trying to extort cash out of the club.

Maybe we're colluding with the Crows for Dangerfield to us, them to match our $ and us offer next year's first rounder, Ben Ken and Broomhead for him.

Was this your idea or did you see my post from the other day?

I swear I said almost the EXACT same thing. But I thought that with rumours of Scharenberg leaving, we were plotting with Adelaide to get them to convince Danger to come to the pies so they can "match" our offer and we give them Scharenberg and maybe throw in Ben Ken.

Both ideas are pure fantasy.

Sorry but if Howe is a legitimate option then we'd be crazy not to take him.

Super accurate shot for goal and great hands. In a forward line consisting of Cloke, Moore, Fasolo and Elliott, Howe could do some genuine damage.

Freeman is asking for market value. If another club is prepared to offer that then he is entitled to ask. Hopefully the club can meet him half way because it would be a real shame to lose him.
