Funny how this Hartlett saga has gone from "Hartlett squeezed out of Port due to salary cap" to "5 clubs offering Hartlett $5 million over 5 years"

Both statements fail the reality test: 1) Hartlett would not be anywhere near the first player squeezed out by a tight salary cap; 2) No club would seriously offer a $700k+ per season multi-year deal to Hartlett*

*In 2014, only 20 players earned over $700k per season in the AFL. If you factor in heavily front and back loaded contracts, it's likely less players would average over $700k per year. I.e. of those 20 players earning over $700k in 2014, a few would appear there as a one off and may be on $500k on average (as an example). In addition, a few of those players would be on over inflated Godfather deals from Gold Coast, GWS and the COLAs (Scully, Tippett come to mind), further skewing these numbers. Based on this, offering Hartlett $700k+ per year on a 5 year deal would instantly make him one of the top 10-15 highest paid players in the competition and most likely the highest or at least 2nd highest paid player at a new club.

On channel 9 just reported at the end of the report that Hartlett is considering these big offers he is getting. If he was to leave trade him this year then at least we will get something good for him

Channel nine reporting that Norf are offering Hartlett a 6 yr contract at $750k per year.

Richmond's offer is 5 years at $700k per year.

And that Hartlett is seriously considering these offers

Where do they come up with these numbers?

Having said that, I don't believe Hartlett is worth $700k a year at any club.

agreed, as much as i rate him as a player he should only be worth about 500-550k a yr.
"considering" refers to looking at the offers and throwing them in the bin

Of course he considering these offers.

700K and 750K are obscene numbers, which he probably wouldnt get at Port.

There's a big difference between getting squeezed out and getting an offer you could not refuse.

Those poor underpaid Richmond players will be in the phone to their managers when they hear those numbers.

Rucci on his sportsday SA podcast with tom rehn has stated that 5 players have been told they are trade bait to get charlie dixon, one who wants to play at port for the rest of his career.

I suspect its Aaron Young.

These offers would be designed to shake him out as a FA or at least put the thought in his mind. If they wanted him that bad you would assume any trade offer would need to be significant.

Seems unnecessary if we're willing to give up the first. Can we bring Rohde back for these negotiations?

What could North possibly even trade us for Hamish?

Jack Ziebell? If anyone can be bothered. I'd love to know how their numbers stack up against each other. Weren't they in the same draft class? Always liked Jack, seems like a real hard bastard.

St Kilda officials came to Port one day and told Bob McLean they were there to speak with John Cahill. Bob McLean said Fine, I'll be on the next flight to Melbourne to chat with Carl Ditterich. The St Kilda delegation went home.

So let's have a chat with Jack Ziebell and let's say Nick Vlastuin and then we'll talk about draft picks. After all Hammer is contracted and it seems these clubs have $750K spare that aren't being shared with these players.

Really it all smells like bullshit and is more likely the long game to try and squeeze out Wines or Wingard.

lol this is totally bullshit started by riccuito as others have said. Same vein as the wingard bullshit. Desperate to deflect the incoming storm of bad Adelaide press.

Holy Moly, Richmonds list is **** if thats who we would talk about. Granted, he is a good young player, but not in Hamish Hartletts class.
